The extent of Byrd?s injuries weren?t immediately known, but Miami Central coach Telly Lockett said that he?s been told Byrd is going to be okay. ?He got in a bad accident, but he?s in stable condition now,? Miami Central coach Telly Lockett said in a telephone interview. ?I coached against him when he was at Miami Central and I was at Miami Northwestern, and he?s a really good guy, a very humble kid. ?He had a little rough start to his senior year with grade issues, but he went on to do some very good things after that. He went to junior college and the rest is history. He really thrived at LSU.? After transferring from Pearl River Community College (Miss.), Byrd caught 35 passes for 621 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. As an LSU senior, Byrd, who originally signed with Florida International out of high school, caught 37 passes for 513 yards and four touchdowns. A 6′0″, 196-pounder, Byrd ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds for NFL scouts this spring and has been projected as a second-day draft pick.

wow that sucks, I was never fond of Byrd as a player when he was with the tigers but this is terrible
I give Byrd the benefit of the doubt, LSU's QB play has been spotty at best. Byrd transfered from a JUCO school and had a few injuries. Reminds of a player like Chansi Stuckey, nothing flashy, but could turn out to be a #3/4 WR playing the slot. I've heard that Byrd has great character and is an outstanding teammate. Probaly a Rd 4 player before the accident, may drop to Rd 6.
