Anyone else still addicted to this? I bought it with my girlfriend last summer because we both liked the first 2 Guitar Heroes and were iffy on the 3rd one (Harmonix, the developer of RB, made the first 2 GH's and then were bought by MTV) and we wanted to try this one out. Needless to say, my song library's up to about 250 songs now and every time I feel like I'm finally going to stop playing, a sweet new pack of songs comes out for download and I get back into it. It's helped me to discover some new music and to appreciate some bands that I never really gave a shot before (Rush, Thin Lizzy, Mastodon). If anyone ever wants to play, my 360 Gamertag is MobiusOne1021; I'm upgrading to gold soon but if we're on each others' friend lists we can at least play battle of the bands vs. each other with my silver account. I can five star or gold star probably 95% of the songs on guitar and bass on expert and can beat about a quarter of the songs on drums on expert. And before anyone says anything about it, yes, I play real guitar too.
Yeah, I still play these games too. They're awesome. Guitar Hero really dropped the ball on GH3. Aerosmith was bad also. However, GH has picked it up with World Tour and Metallica. I actually like those games more then Rock Band. Rock Band will always keep people into it with the insane amount of DLC. Guitar Hero doesn't have much DLC at all. I play guitar. I'm excellent on hard and I'm decent on expert. I just have difficulty with some of the later songs. Drums can be a challenge on any difficulty. I've had trouble with songs on hard and I've aced some on expert. It's a toss-up. As for the whole.. "go play a real instrument" thing. I'm so fucking sick of it. Just because I like Call of Duty doesn't mean I should go join the fucking army. Give me a break.
Agreed 100%, I fucking hate it when people say that. Besides the fact that I do actually play one, it's just a ton more time and money to actually get really good at it; time and money I don't have right now (finishing up college in 2 weeks). Plus, a lot of my friends just don't play instruments or have the hardware or skills to rock out; I like the accessibility the games provide. I personally liked World Tour a lot better than GH3 but I still felt some of the charting on expert was unrealistic; I could see it being better on hard though. The solos on expert were just annoying clusterfucks on some songs, as opposed to Harmonix who is usually pretty solid with charting them so they flow more realistically. I also hate it when they do shit like "Hey, let's play organ instead of guitar!" on songs like Mr. Crowley just to use up the time, but Neversoft and Harmonix are both guilty of it. I just bought GH: Metallica off ebay and have heard nothing but good things. All 4 songs in the demo were great so I'm excited. Metallica's first 4 albums are some of the best around IMO.
