I'm not hearing those wheels, oh the brett ratliff bandwagon where are you? I post this because i really think that if brett ratliff were tearing it up in minicamp there would be nonstop threads about how brett ratliff is the franchise qb.

Now obviously two days of minicamp doesn't determine whether you are legit NFL QB

NEITHER DOES TWO PASSES IN PRESEASON

We still have a long way to go before the starting qb is determined and i personally don't think we should or will draft a QB. The point is lets hold judgement and give either guy one year in this offense now that we have a legit O-line and running game now in place, instead of an o-line with Adrien Clarke, Anthony Clement, and Tony Wise coaching. Lets add a WR and really see if we have something instead of rushing to judgement. Thoughts?

Well said! I was thinking the same thing.

If over time Ratliff becomes the starter I'm all for it. Before everyone crowns him the next starter lets see what happens in a full off season of open compitition.

There are 100 threads already on this section basically on what you are saying. I think a lot of Jets fans have now boarded the starting QB bandwagon, as in let them fight it out and whichever one wins, lets support them.

Yes! We'll call it Rex's Choice! Let the fun begin.

...but I'm pretty sure KC will be behind center on opening day.

you know he threw more than 2 passes last preseason right? the other passes he made last year are why im high on him. hitting a wide open receiver on a streak would be a silly reason to think someone is good.

Agreed! Who ever steps up and shows us they are ready has my support. It would be great to have one of our own young guys take the reins and move us forward.

Sorry to post off topic, but nice avatar - the more I see pics of those uniforms the more I wish we would go back to them.

On topic, I agree with IATA - seems like the op answered their own question. Not much else to say about it.

Ratliff is going to rebound from this. Big time! Get ready for the hailstorm of touchdowns this man will suffer upon any defense that dare stand in his way. He will smite the opposing defense like Zeus with his lightning bolts, laying waste to any and all who stand between him and victory. It's all part of his ingenious plan. Get the bad throws out of the way early before it matters and save the plays that push him into Canton for the regular season. At the same time, he's doing an excellent job of giving opposing DCs nothing with which they could adequately scout the whirling death blade he will become in the regular season!!!!

There, is that enough mindless, undeserving praise for you? For the record, I hope he beats out Clemens for the starting job. His mobility could make him much more dangerous for opposing defenses and he's just that much more of a feel-good story. Coming in as a UFA would make him an even more stellar rise than Brady as a 6th round pick. How's that for talent evaluation?

Not been said yet...some players respond better to gametime situations better than TC and workouts....see the combine.
My guess is that once the pre-season games start , Ratty will out perform KC , but whoever gets the gig should be supported 100% , and not have a repeat of that disgrace we had a few seasons ago with the crowd booing our starting QB.

Let's face it, Kellen Clemens is going to win this quarterback battle.

He will probably even be a decent game manager who throws very few interceptions.

He also won't be a guy who can put a struggling team on his shoulders and will them back into a game.

He won't be able to lead the team down by 7 with two minutes left in the game to the touchdown.

He will never make a pro bowl.

He will never be an above average quarterback.

By the time everybody finally figures this out we will most likely be in the third or fourth year of the Ryan regime, having wasted some prime years of (hopefully) a dominant attacking defense.

At least by then their will be no more gloating threads about Kellen Clemens being the starting quarterback of the New York Jets.

How do I know all this? I don't. But I'll bet anyone my assessment and prediction is a lot closer then Clemens being a top quarterback.

If the Jets get *very* lucky then Kellen Clemens can lead us to the Superbowl............. in a Trent Dilfer type of role.

Clemens isn't a Dilfer type QB.

And I'd take it, it's a fucking Super Bowl.

I'm starting to get the feeling that the KC vs Ratliff controversy will be even more annoying than the old Penny vs KC controversy. At least before there was the well defined issue of arm strength, now its all about who you like better, it feels like high school.

Clemens is a gunslinger, he won't be a 'game manager' type quarterback no matter how efficient he is. And he did put the team on his shoulders in '07 and put them in a position to win.. I'm sorry you missed that.

It won't take 3 or 4 years to figure out what kind of quarterback Clemens will be either. And who's going to be gloating over him starting exactly?

There is no controversy, because there is no starter yet. Once there is a starter, and if he struggles, then there may be a controversy.

And this does get annoying, mostly because endless threads are started saying the same things over and over again. The vast majority of people on this board are willing to see who wins the job, but some people just have to keep starting threads saying "hey, let's just wait and see who wins the job".

    I just don't get it.

thats a good assessment of what he's going to be... but thats what the Jets want. Not a philosophy I agree with.

And to have that Trent Dilfer role - he's going to need a defense with 4 HOFers on it like the Ravens and Bucs had.

We don't have a HOFer on the defense yet.

If you think any of it is based off of the two passes in the Browns game, then you're severely and sorely mistaken.

And BTW, we're still here, we just don't feel the need to make a new thread every damned day.

All I want is a fair and open competition for the starting QB job. No preconceived notions on who has the best arm, most poise in the pocket, more mobile, etc. Lets just see who can get the job done best ON THE FIELD. May the best man win.
