Sadly, I agree with you. Philly lost Runyan & Thomas, but seem to have replaced them with Andrews and Peters. I hate to say it, but Philly played this one well.
Wow. Have you ever seen Peters play left tackle? As an individual from Rochester, NY who has seen most Bills games, Peters is average to below average. It took him awhile to learn the position of LT in the NFL. His name got some buzz as he was learning the position quite well and Jim McNally praised him a lot since he was coaching him. This got every "so called" football expert and analyst talking him up based on that. He was never a Pro Bowl caliber player and his performance last year was pathetic.
Yup. In 2007 he gave up 2 sacks and was dominant. The guy is a top talent at tackle when he is motivated. Remember? http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=474450&postcount=11
Yeah I thought he was developing nicely for a guy that never played the position. He regressed this year when the Bills focused on throwing the ball more. The Bills were a bottom 3 team in 2007 in pass attempts. You are throwing around the word motivated like its not a big deal. Peter's is a piece of shit who played decent one year and then wanted a ridiculous contract even though the Bills were the only team to give him a chance. You can't teach motivation.
I guess the whole point I'm trying to make is that I don't think it's a bad trade for the Eagles. You certainly can't teach motivation, but you also can't teach a guy to be 340 pounds and wicked athletic. I have a feeling that if the Eagles pay this guy and make him happy, he's going to be very productive for them. If he gets paid and decides to sit on his ass, obviously it's a better trade for Buffalo, but I don't see it going that way. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. The question now is, how many sacks are we going to to get on whoever the Bills replace Peters with?
This is supposed to be a strong year for centers and the Bills need one. Last year the Jets killed the Bills in the NT vs C battle. I expect the Bills to take either Mack or Unger and have the center position turned into a strength. If the Bills can get their young players to live up to expectations they will be dangerous. It sucks to be in such a strong division.
I remember reading an article last year about Duke Preston having to go up against Jenkins, Wilfork, Jamal Williams and Jason Ferguson in four consecutive weeks. That guy must have been sore.
Peters was also below avg in run blocking.....most of our rushing yards the past 2 seasons came from running behind the right side.
Mabe this will make you feel better: Code: 23. Matt Light (Pats) 7.5 sacks allowed (16 starts) 23. Chad Clifton (Packers) 7.5 sacks allowed (15 starts) 23. Kwame Harris (Raiders) 7.5 sacks allowed (11 starts) 27. Joe Staley (49ers) 8.5 sacks allowed (16 starts) 28. Donald Penn (Bucs) 8.5 sacks allowed (16 starts) 29. Jeff Backus (Lions) 9.25 sacks allowed (16 starts) 30. John St. Clair (Bears) 9.75 sacks allowed (16 starts) 31. Duane Brown (Texans) 11.5 sacks allowed (16 starts) 31. Jason Peters (Bills) 11.5 sacks allowed (13 starts) *PRO-BOWL* You can?t really judge this trade now, you gotta see, who they get, if they get the 2007 Peters, it?s a steal, if the get the 2008 Peters, it?s an absolute failure.
One of the Buffalo games last year, Jenkins was beating the Bills center so easily the game was unloseable for the Jets. With three teams running the 3-4 defense this is a division where you really need a good center, I will be shocked if the Bills don't take one this year. Which disapoints me, I was hoping we might get Unger in the second round. I like the idea of having a guy who can play 4 OLine positions, Unger played half his college career at right tackle and was good at it. So I'm hoping the Bills take Mack, whose supposed to be a better center anyway.
Guys, as a BILLS fan, I can tell you I am happy to get rid of him. Yes, athletically, he is a freak WHEN he is in shape. He held out last year and it took him until game 5 until he was ready. That game was against ARIZONA, the game Trent Edwards got knocked out. The OL had to scramble to pick up the slack because he wasn't ready. Holdouts are a fact of life in the NFL. Bruce Smith, arguably the best DL of all time, held out in what seemed year-to-year. The difference between the two was that Bruce was ready to play week 1. Peters will be a bust with that money. He doesn't have the proper mindset. In a recent interview on being selected to the pro-bowl, he was quoted as saying "That's why you play the game, to make it to the pro-bowl." I'm not sure about JETS fans, but I do know that the majority of BILLS fans would rather have Superbowl players, not Pro-bowl players.
Peters was unhappy with bufflao last year and his play showed it. If he Turns it around he will be a steal for the Iggles. The Bills have to make good picks for this to make any sense.
Well it's post-draft. I was wondering your thoughts on the trade. I'd say the BILLS are looking pretty good with the decision to trade him....
I'd say its way too early to tell. Not a single down has been played since this trade. I'm not a huge fan of grading drafts right away but waiting a few years to see if the players make some kind of impact on thier teams. For now I'm a bit confused on the Bills direction. I think Wood was a reach. Alex Mack comming off at 21 scared them. He could have been had at thier later second rounder IMO. Unger would have been my pick over Wood, but the Bills could be right on this one. Maybin is a very good talent. I still would have gone with a tackle there and looked at a pass rusher at 28, but I can understand thier reasoning for going after Maybin. I love the Levitre pick, if they plan on playing him inside at guard. I'm not sure he has the reach need to play LT in the NFL. I see him becomming an excelent interior lineman though. Nelson should be a steal in the fourth. I doubt he will become a big time blocker, but should provide a good weapon in the middle for the bills offense. The Big question make is do they have a plan for a homegrown LT? They did not address it in the draft. The interior of thier line should be much improved. That said, this is all still speculation and none of us will know a thing till this season starts to play out.
It seems the BILLS are in need of shoring up the middle of their OL. Being that the JETS, DOLPHINS, and PATRIOTS all play a 3-4, they got creamed against the opposing NT's last year. The sacrifice was at LT. In 2008, when Peters wasn't ready for the opener, the spot duty of Chambers and Walker at LT seemed quite effective, but was against SEATTLE and JACKSONVILLE, two teams with high hopes at the beginning of the 2008 season with dismal results. What does it mean? Well, I think the thinking is that they plan on doing more up the gut running and their passing game should employ more of a K-Gun style. Not sure if they are committed to running the no-huddle fully, but there is lots of talk about it (more than in years past, and with proper personnel to run it this year). Does it translate to more wins? Who the hell knows. Dick Jauron is on the hot seat this year. One winning season in 9 with no playoff wins doesn't make for much confidence, but his actions this offseason seem to scream of a man willing to take more chances. His situation reminds me of Tom Coughlin the year he won the SB with the GIANTS. Does Jauron finally make some noise after three consecutive 7-9 seasons in Buffalo? Well at least they didn't retain JP Losman......
