The change was made to accomodate fans who celebrate Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, begins at sundown on September 27. As a result of this schedule change, the Giants-Buccaneers game from Tampa and the Titans-Jets game will be televised head to head on different networks in the New York market starting at 1:00 PM ET on September 27.
Is this not setting a very bad precedent?? how can the NFL grant such a change for the Jewish fans and not grant the same provisions for any other faith.... it could start a argument of intolerance of other faiths, that doesn't happen very often where religion is concerned

Its because the nature of the holiday is different from that of christmas. First of all, its more serious. Also, many people will want to go to temple and finally many people do not drive on the holiday.
