Dan Leberfield reports… Updates will follow, but it sounds like Cummings suffered a concussion and Wallace Wright may have also been concussed and hurt his knee in a freak collision as they were both moving at full speed in separate drills. That doesn’t sound like “fun” either. Let’s hope both are alright… edit: forgot to link to the original source: http://www.thejetsblog.com/2009/04/17/horrific-collision-mars-day-two-of-minicamp/
That's really too bad. Not that you'd want it to happen to anybody, but those are two guys that are really easy to root for. Hope nothing serious results from this.
Well I guess the flipside of the coin is always that it could have been Leon running full speed into Bart Scott, right? Damm, you also need to consider that these guys are just wearing helmets, no pads. Can't be good.
I'd say that Cummings and Wright are off to worse starts... We weren't really counting on Wright for anything more than WR depth this year but he is arguably THE ACE on special teams, and is no doubt the big reason why he's lasted with the team for this long. Cummings was showing some nice flashes last year. You hope that even if it is somewhat serious that the guys have more than enough time to recover before TC starts.
I've done the same thing in a hockey pratice moving at full speed. Unless they hit knees or landed weird they should be ok. ITs still a hell of a hit. I'd expect them to be set down for at least the rest of this day if not the next.
thats my fear- they lose the ST gunner that should have made the pro bowl as the ST gunner last year... he's valuable because no one gets a return on him. cummings is beyond expendable.
The only thing better than Wallace Wright closing in on ST's is Wallace Wright AND Brad Smith both closing in. The fact that they are both so proficient on ST is impossible to overlook.
wow, you'd think there would be a way to ensure this sort of thing would never happen. Like only run simultaneous drills when there is more than enough space between the drills, or run the drills at different times (stagger them), or use different fields (I believe they have several practice fields at their disposal in Florham Park).
Great, our new coach, who everyone has decided will be a great leader, can not run a practice without a stupid, stupid accident.
