That's the nature of the business. Like I said If they are going to make a move like that they better be right or they won't be around to pick the next QB.
That's what happens when you gamble and it pays off, nobody complains because it worked out. But the whole thing that makes it a gamble is that it rarely pays off. And when it doesn't, there's nothing to do but be pissed off at what you gave up for nothing. I wouldn't mind seeing them take a gamble on a young guy at QB, and Sanchez is growing on me... but if we give up a bunch and this guy busts in New York, better get ready for the shit-storm.
Teams now employ "runners". If you fail to get a pick in in time, the next team goes on the clock. You can now use your pick at any time, but teams are now set up to go rapid fire on draft picks until the original team finally steps in. If anyone tried that now, it would really shorten the draft up nicely.
It's a 50/50 chance really. I read a sporting news article that said 19 out of the last 44 QBs picked in the first round over the last five years can be considered solid starters.
Vinny was stable until he could not get it done anymore. Once Chad hurt his shoulder we have been taking the quick fix lets do what will get us a few wins this year as opposed to the long run. On that day he hurt his arm he was no longer a Qb capable of taking the Ny Jets to the sb but decisions were made to go with the Guy who gives us the best chance to win games now and not get a guy who gives us a chance to win a Sb. That is a quick fix and not a long term plan with the competition that has been in the Afc during that time. What is happening now with the NYJ Qb situation should have happened in 2005. Basically we wasted the last four seasons.
That's complete hindsight. Pennington only missed a few games in 2004, the Jets thought he was ready in 2005, got us back to the playoffs in 2006. Sticking with the guy you have isn't a quick fix, it's hoping your franchise QB will get healthy and return to form, which he did. Did it again, too just not for us.
All im saying is if you keep going with a guy who will not get you over the hump just to make the playoffs is a win now quick fix mentality. Chad is not a franchise Qb. A franchise Qb makes the guys around them better. He is a smart game manager who gets 100% out of his ability on the field and can win when surrounded by superior talent. Do you think the Phins will make the playoffs now that they have a really hard schedule? At some point this year I think the Henne era will begin.
That's all your opinion, using 20/20 hindsight. When you have a QB who you drafted #1, stepped in his first year and pulled out a division title for you, taken you to the playoffs and won there, won there hurt, you generally stick with him if you can. Goal #1 of every team every year is to make the playoffs, it's the only way to get any further. That's not a "quick fix", it's trying to win with the best guys you can put out there, which is what they are all paid to do. You said the same thing about Miami last year, how did that work out?
Goal 1 of teams ready to win the Sb is to do that. Everything else is a failure. The Jets were never going to be that team with Chad. It worked out in Miami last year the way it worked out for Us every year with him. Like I have been telling you every year when he plays against the elite teams that are Sb ready they make him throw and it ends the same way. That Raven Game was vintage Chad. How many times have we seen that show. Do you really think the goal of the Pats, Chargers, Colts and Steelers is to make the playoffs. An Afc Championship loss would be a wasted season to them. The dolphins have gone as far as they can with Chad and it would be in their best interest to see what they have in Henne now. Prob is they have not seen the show long enough down there to know how the story ends each year.
Of course, it is ridiculous to think otherwise. The first goal of every team is to make the playoffs. Once a team achieves that goal their next goal is to win a SB. As you know you can't win the SB without making it to the playoffs first.
This is all completely irrelevant to your original claim that the Jets have been going with a quick fix every year for the past 10 years. Just admit you were full of shit and move on. There's no need to change this into a Chad Pennington thread.
Keeping Chad in because he gives you the best chance to get to the playoffs each year is a quick fix. Guarantee you Parcells gets off the Chad Train pretty quick this year once things start to go south like we both know they will. He might give miami a better chance to win but he will be riding the pine once he starts to s**k against a harder sched and teams prepared for the wildcat this time around.
I guarantee the Steelers thinking is Sb or bust. They expect to make the playoffs. That is the difference between winning franchises and ours.
Pennington was drafted and groomed by the Jets to be the long term answer here. There was nothing quick about it. You're full of shit. Give up.
And that mistake should have been corrected the day he looked like a deer in headlights in his first playoff game in Oakland. Him being the long term answer was the plan but after it was apparent he was not he should have been dumped in 2005. Just like I was full of shit every other game I predicted he would suck the joint up. Just like I will be full of shit after the phins first five games this year against the Falcons, Colts, Chargers, Bills and Us when he will be sitting his ass on the bench at their bye week. Just like me and all the other darksiders diagram his classic meltdown like the one he had against the Ravens because they make the Qb without and arm throw and it ends in disaster each year. If you think Chad is an Nfl Qb who can win a Sb you are in fact the one that is full of shit!
By his definition any QB who doesn't win the Super Bowl isn't a franchise QB or long term answer, and somehow you're supposed to know that before it happens. Pennington perfectly fit the description of the franchise QB a team looks for, we just didn't win the Super Bowl with him for a variety of reasons, some his fault and others not his fault. It still doesn't make him a "quick fix". Franchise QBs are hard enough to find, as we're seeing, that you aren't quick to get rid of one if you have one.
You're right, but once they found out he wasn't the answer, his leadership and game management capability keeping him in the starting spot was a quick fix. At some point many people realized that Chad wasn't the long term answer, and keeping him was only a Band-Aid. Kind of fitting, actually.
