Not for me , but I'm sure the 'must have brigade' will want him .. Will Jets move up to take USC's Sanchez?
No i would not be in favor of trading up for Sanchez. I would rather grab Freeman over Sanchez. You can't give to much credit to sources like the Daily News though, because Rex Ryan has come out and said that he believes the starting QB is already on our roster. For Cutler, I could understand the interest, but Sanchez is just as unproven as any Qb on our roster. I can't see Rex trading UP to get sanchez. I've heard the Jets were really impressed with Freeman, and were one of the teams that were really sold on his potential and ability. Freeman has the big arm, and has the mobility and arm that draws comparisons to Flacco, and I can see Rex trying to go after a guy like that. But thats speculative at best, I just can't see us trading up for a quarterback and definitely don't favor it. Just my opinion.
I like Sanchez a lot, there's a reason why he shot up on draft boards everywhere since the combine. That being said, if we have to pay a king's ransom for him (1st, 2nd and a 4th) I'd rather not.
If he makes it past Jacksonville and the 49ers. Sure. Go ahead. I don't want to trade up to No. 7 and give up a shit load. If we can jump the Skins or the Broncos wherever they may be, then by all means, pull the trigger.
In what way is Freeman horrible? I guess its a difference of opinions, but some GM's are more in favor of Freeman than Sanchez. I've heard the talk (positives and negatives of Sanchez), but I'm just iffy on a quarterback who started 11 games , and was surrounded by the talent around him. Seems like a high character guy, and has some really good strengths in his game, but I think he is to similar to Leinart. Not that Leinart is bad, because no one has really seen to much of him yet in the NFL, but he definitely didn't come in and turn around the Cardinals franchise. On the other hand, I just think Freeman has the size, the arm , pretty decent mobility, and just the drive to really progress in the NFL. The decision making can be worked on. I just think freeman fell victim to a disastrous Kansas State program that kept overturning in staff, and he had no talent around him. I wouldn't say he is horrible, because if he was, GM's wouldn't claim they loved his pro day and he wouldn't be one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. That's a bold statement to make being that I bet you rarely watched a Kansas State game. The question was would you be in favor of trading up to get Sanchez, and I said no, clearly because the cost of trading up that many picks is pretty significant, and the cost I don't feel is worth it when Ratliff and Clemens haven't been giving a shot. If we do choose to go quarterback in round one, which I don't think will happen, Freeman is definitely a good option at 17. Next year's class of quarterbacks will be strong, so giving up multiple picks this year and next year to move up and get Sanchez is not a viable and a considerable option in my opinion, because if Ratty and Clemens don't pan out as expected, we can use a top pick next year to grab one of the many good quarterbacks. All in all, Freeman is far from "horrible". Usually top 3 quarterbacks don't get labeled with an adjective like that.
Funny you mentioned the Skins , I edited my post and said a similar thing. Last year they took Colt Brennan
Stay where we are and use our draft picks. I'd only trade up for Crabtree and that's a top 5 pick so not even realistic.
It may bite us, but I think we should pass on trading up. Both Clemens and Ratliff are fully capable of handing off to our RBs. They also can throw controlled high percentage passes, and each can throw it long if they have to. A speed WR increases the dyanmic of our team a bit more, IMO. I know I will take some heat on the franchise QB thing, but Sanchez is only a potential Franchise QB; not proven, yet. Granted, we are not exactly bursting at the seams in that department, but given that it is Ryan's first year, I can be content in going with what we have and using guys experienced with our offensive system rather than putting the money and picks on a guy that is totally untested and needs to learn the playbook from scratch.
I don't want to trade up, but I think it would be an enormous mistake to pass on Sanchez if he gets to 17.
I wish so many more people felt the same way. But then again, this board would be pretty empty otherwise.
If the mistake was so enormous, wouldn't it be just as enormous not to make a move on him if they could work a deal? Tannenbaum isn't what I would call much of a personnel guy, but he has pulled some pretty impressive trades since he took a more active role with the Jets.
