Actually it would make sense if the Lions made an offer... this way they are sure to get a good/talented QB and a top LT in the first round... I wouldn't mind if it was us but I don't think it will happen. Maybe the Vikings....
According to an earlier report, Matthew Stafford has begun telling his friends that he has agreed to a contract with the Lions. Supposedly the contract is in the $40mil guaranteed range. Found it. NFL Pro Insider My feelings, if we could get him with our 2nd Rounder, then I'd bite. But I don't know about using the 1st. Hypothetically speaking, if we could trade back to the end of the first round, gaining a 2nd or 3rd round pick, I wouldn't mind parting with the 1st then. Hypothetically of course.
I know Stafford is probably going to Detroit... I'm just saying I think it would make more sense for Detroit to get Quinn at #20 and a really good LT at #1 instead of taking Stafford and not knowing if a decent/good LT will be there at #20... With a pick in the top 5 I think you can take ABSOLUTELY no risk and I don't think Stafford is such a good QB. He is good and has talent, but not #1 talent... altough I guess he will sit one year behind Culpepper (at least some games) so that will give him more time to adjust to NFL rythm.
I agree Mambo, i would take Quinn for the 20th overall and then take a LT with the first, that is a good basis for advancement. It makes the most sense, i really can't see us being the team, the Vikings would be a possible location as well.
Vikings just signed Sage Rosenfels in FA. Not that he's a star or anything but i doubt they'd be going after Quinn since they signed him already.
I'd take Anderson before I look at Quinn. Its not like Quinn out performed Anderson last yr either. Quinn for a third rounder after his last years stellar performance.
Why do we believe this team exists? The Browns are also claiming an Edwards trade is imminent. We shall see.
Sage is a 31 yr old career backup, I highly doubt he's the reason why the Vikings wouldn't trade for Brady Quinn
Quinn played pretty well in his first game experience against denver before his defense blew the game down the stretch. Then he promptly broke his pinky and the browns shut him down knowing their season was over anyways, and didnt want to potentially cause more damage to it. so while i am not exactly in favor of flipping our first for Quinn, the reasons i am against it have nothing to do with the fact that he didnt play well when given the chance....
Anybody else questioning what the hell is Mangini doing? They traded Winslow for a 2nd and a 5th next year. They are about to trade Edwards, and they are trying to trade Quinn - both at a likely discount. Maybe they aren't "Mangini guys", but they are all young, high potential playmakers. The Browns are going to be horrible this year. And no, I don't want the Jets to go after Quinn or Edwards unless we get a substantial discount over the perceived value that's being tossed around.
Not sure why Mangini is breaking up the offense, he is getting rid of their only two playmakers. I agree.
