CB in the 1st round...

CB in the first round?

  1. Absolutely fine with it.

    28.6%
  2. Absolutely not. I'd go on a killing spree if this happened!

    45.7%
  3. If no one else is there, I wouldn't care.

    25.7%
  4. If we're going to target any CB, we'd be better off with...

Anyone else here on board for this move? Or against it?

I just wanted to see how the folks at TGG would feel if we went CB in the first round. Personally, if we don't have anyone to trade down with, or reach for, and Maclin, Moreno, and Sanchez are gone, I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a CB.

Personally I like Vontae Davis if we had to pick him in the first. As scouts have said Malcolm Jenkins will probably be drafted and moved to play safety and we've got that position filled along with depth. I think anyone can make an argument for Darius Butler as well who plays man-to-man pretty well.

The reason I'm placing CB in my top 3 list of "needs" for this upcoming Draft is because Lito Shep's contract is written in such a way that we will not be able to retain him next year. Also T.O. joining the AFC East and a healthy Tom Brady re-uniting with Moss (and the spread offense) will keep Revis extremely busy on one side of the field. You still have to deal with Welker and Evans on the other side.

So, who will pull their hair out and who will rejoice when the New York Jets select a Cornerback with the 17th pick?

In my opinion Lowery is an above average number 3, Lito is an above average number 2, and Revis is the 2nd best corner in the league.

So I am strongly against drafting a CB in the first round.

worst idea ever! with shepard and lowery i think our top 3 cb's are as good as most in the league.lowery got picked on because of revis and didn't look too bad for a 4th round pick. might as well draft a q.b. with the 17th pick since a cb would get just as much p.t. this year

I agree to some extent. Problem with both these scenarios...Lito won't be back for us next year. Not with the contract we have in place. So both of you guys will be comfortable with going back to square one in Revis on one side and Lowery on the other?

I guess I'm a little worried about the chance of us not having Lito next year...I still think other choices would be better for RD1...if we trade back in Rd1 and get an extra 2nd rd pick Id be all for getting a CB with one of our 2nd round picks.

That would be a great scenario if we could find a trading partner but not the scenario I based this poll around. So, I guess you gave your answer already. I just wouldn't see another position I'd rather have in the scenario. I'm not too high on Tyson Jackson who I've heard someone describe as "another Kenyon Coleman" which I agree 100% with. Not to mention drafting Jackson isn't going to remedy the hole we may leave wide open yet again next year.

If we draft a CB, I'd rather they be a CB who could switch in at S as well. Flexibility's the name of the game in Rex Ryan's D and they would halp a lot. As such, I'd prefer a guy like Sean Smith over Vontae Davis, but I'd honestly be fine with either.

They're not on the top of my list, but to be entirely honest Sheppard isn't my favorite CB and he's likely due to be released before FA starts next year or else we could have to give up a 2nd rounder next year in the deal. I'm also not enamored with Lowery thus far (I'm willing to give him a chance though).

Thats the correct answer there. A talent like Smith would be a great addition. Vontae Davis may be the most athleticly gifted pure corner, but is nto as versitle. Jenkins should be long gone by 17 but could also be a corner / safty combo that would be a good addition.

BPA in round one this year would not be bad. The right players for our biggest holes may not be around so you take the best talent at any position and make it work on your roster.

I think we could find good value at DE or perhaps OT at 17 depending on how the draft falls out. If a talent Like Sanchez or Maclin falls I would be more then pleased. We are in a good position to go a lot of different ways and take the best left over talent around reguardless of position though.

Couldn't put it any better. I also agree with the previous post about Sean Smith, I fell off from his bandwagon when some scouts were considering him moving to safety, but with Rex Ryan's defense versatility does come a long way. Elam is only here for 1 year and this will be a new system for him which we all thing he will flourish in so we'll see what he's got. Only problem I see with Smith is that he will be a bit of a reach at 17. Other than that, I would I agree with the previous posts.

Only if it's Jenkins or Davis.

I really like Darius Butler, but I think that he is a 2nd round pick. With that said, I doubt that he lasts all the way to our pick, so we would have to trade up if the FO liked him and wanted to draft him.

Why shouldn't Lito be here next year? I think we are going to do like NO did with Vilma.. let him go and then re-sign him... plus Lowery will be in his 3rd year so I think we are ok at CB.

If Lito has an ok year then I can see us pulling a Vilma resigns w/ Saints scenario. But thats if he does ok. Not great. If Lito returns to Pro Bowl form hell have plenty of teams interested and I gurantee he will not be back as a Jet.
