I think he'd still be good as a part of a 3 back rotation though. He could be the short yardage/goal line back.
You know I was thinking that. A situation back, as he is still a hammer at the goal line. But will he play as a platoon, and at a much reduced low salary? I am just going to guess no. If he agrees to cheap terms, then fine. But they still need to develop a young back as both guys will be in their thirties.
He might have to. I don't know if anyone is going to pay him to be a feature back at this point in his career and with so many off the field problems.
Wasn't there an issue a while back where he said he would play harder if his coach wasn't white or something like that?
Johnson has been arrested four times since 2003 on various assault charges against women. In 2003, he was arrested for felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic battery for waving a gun during an argument at his home with an ex-girlfriend. The charges were dropped when Johnson agreed to participate in a domestic violence diversion program. In 2005, he was again arrested for assault when a woman accused Johnson of pushing her to the ground, but the case was dropped after the alleged victim failed to appear in court for three different hearings. His third arrest for assault came on February 24, 2008, after allegedly pushing a woman's head at a nightclub on February 24.[12] On October 10, 2008, Johnson was arrested for the fourth time and charged with one count of non-aggravated assault for allegedly spitting a drink in a woman's face at a Kansas City nightclub on Oct. 10.[13] The woman involved, Ashley Stewart, has since filed a civil suit against Johnson, accusing him of negligence, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.[14] It was announced on Oct. 16, 2008, that Johnson would be deactivated for the October 19 game against the Tennessee Titans in response to violating an undisclosed team rule.[15] The team said his suspension for this game was unrelated to the newest criminal investigation. In March 2009 Johnson pleaded guilty to the two incidents in 2008 and was sentenced to two years probation.[16] not a 'choir boy' but all in all a pretty solid citizen. he should fit right in. sign him.
He certainly carries plenty of baggage over many hard miles of play but I don't really know how much he has left in the tank. His o-line was crap last year and his role in the offense was greatly reduced. He still managed to have a few big games last year and I wouldn't mind bringing him in if he could be had for cheap. If he's healthy, fit as everyone is saying he is and has the old Larry Johnson chip on his shoulder, he could possibly return to being a monster offensive force in the backfield running behind our line and his old pal Tony Richardson. I saw him bust at least several 50+ yard runs last year so he still has wheels and, he is not worn out or damaged goods, has far greater potential upside than TJ. Last year's O-line in KC was very young, inexperienced and was often weak and ineffectual with their run blocking. I think he's worth a look if the price as right.
I agree, another 30 year old RB on the roster doesn't seem like the logical way to go at that position - not to mention the guy's tendency to beat women. I don't doubt that if he played well he could make a good complement to TJ and Leon, but how long would that rotation last? One year, maybe two? I'd prefer to go young, especially with the fact that you can get quality RBs deeper in the draft.
I agree, too. We already have a very good back who's getting up there in years. Also, while Tom Jones is a little older than LJ, I bet LJ is older in football years when you consider the large amounts of carries he's had. Unless we got him for nearly free (I don't know anything about his current contract, etc), I say pass. We still have much bigger holes at QB and WR, for instance. And I think those will be harder to fill. Not to trivialize the position, but I think if we can grow our OLine to get progressively more beastly, we'll be able to plug any old schmo in at RB and do OK.
LJ is a dick, but he's also another Herm victim. "This game is about heart, men! You don't need knee cartilage, or a functioning rotator cuff, or an undamaged brain, or rest, you just need heart!"
Hard to enjoy the game if you have to root for a guy who is addicted to battering women. Its bad enough that we have Elam, those rape charges from college seemed believable to me. Now we have to add LJ? Think how Giants fans must feel when Dave Meggett gets charged with rape every couple of years, do you want to feel that way? When Meggett gets charged the headlines shouldn't say "Meggett Charged With Rape Again", they should say "Meggett Continues Normal Raping Schedule'. Or maybe "Meggett Still On Pace For 20 Rapes". Keeping the criminal types off the team was the only thing I give Benito Mangini credit for.
Get him for a 6th or 7th I say HELL YES. the odds are the 6th and 7th won't even make the team so that a no brainer. GET LJ
Itd kinda b pointless there are plenty of work horse backs in the draft that we can draft and they would b much younger. plus LJ is only a year younger then TJ and lately has been less productive
Theres plenty of strippers and prostitutes in NY for Larry Johnson to beat up, so he'd deffinetly be at home.
The Problem is, that if we trade for him, we also get his huge deal. That?s why he got no trade value, if you want him, you gotta wait, till the release him, and then try to sign him.
In RB years his legs are probably older than TJ's so it would be a pretty bad idea to bring him in with the throught of being Jones' heir apparent. But As a #3 behind either TJ and Leon this year or Leon and a younger back next year wouldn't be bad at all. Don't know if he'd be up for that though. May turn out he won't have much of a choice.
