Please don't B@#$% about another thread on Austin. I knew nothing about him so I went to NFL.com to the players section and they have four videos of him (yes, all three TDs and a 53 yard gain). http://www.nfl.com/players/milesaustin/profile?id=AUS467198 I like him and the fact that he is entering his fourth year in the NFL and is only 24 shows he must have graduated early. Maybe someone can check on that.
I don't think anyone will bitch about this thread so no worries there. I still don't know if I am comfortable with the Jets tossing a second round pick for an unproven starter. The one thing that I see from those short clips is he seems to have some decent hands and definitely can fly. Looks to have an extra gear...certainly faster than Cotch. Still don't like giving up a 2nd.
In the second video there was the magic word that we didn't hear last season....... 'Seperation' Thats what we need.
I live in Dallas and Austin has kind of been the type of guy that keeps teasing. he was a decent kick returner and made a few plays at WR last year but for one reason or another can't seem to stay on the field. He is a surely a downfield threat, that may be his only trick though. I do not think he is worthy of a mid 2nd. He is not expected to start. Patrick Crayton has always been ahead of him.
Not expected to start? If we trade our 2nd round pick for him, I can promise you the guy will be out there as a starter opening day.
i dont think i would sign austin for a 2nd rounder, but how can you use this as an argument against the idea? anybody they would draft with a 2nd rounder, or a 1st rounder, or in any round, would be exactly that: unproven...
You should see the highlight video on McCariens before we gave up a 2nd for him. They left out the drops in those video's. I want to see a low light video instead of a high light video so I can make an informed choice.
^This is exactly right--its similar to when purchasing an appliance and reading owner reviews: the "great" reviews are informative but you better read the "shitty" reviews too so you know the possible downside.
Our lone 2nd round pick for another team's 5th WR? Sounds great! Tannenbaum should be fired immediately if this goes down.
Uh, really? He's not going to be their 5th receiver this year. He's being counted on to replace TO. That's why he received a 2nd round tender. I honestly don't know how to feel about this, because I don't know what value the FO projects as available at each of our picks. I'd hate to do the deal if there's a chance Maclin falls. I also feel good about Louis Murphy in the 3rd. However, if Austin pans out, and using our 2nd on him means we take Moreno in the 1st, I am very happy. I'd rather have Maclin and Greene, but it's a huge risk in either direction. The former route at least ensures the FO gets two guys it likes. Oh, and for the 80th time, Austin is neither a slot nor possession receiver. That's why he didn't overtake Crayton and start opposite TO.
This could be a smoke screen related to the draft. Get people to think we don't consider the WR draft class overwhelming strong -- at the point we're picking -- so that we then headfake everyone and take a WR at 17.
