Kiper has finally pulled us off the Harvin/Freeman train, but his new mock isn't a whole lot better: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/insider/columns/story?id=4054695 It's insider only, but I'll post our picks. He goes 4 rounds: #17 Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR #52 Andre Brown, RB #76 Richard Quinn, TE #115 Mitch King, DL Players I'd like to see who he has available at each spot: #17 Jarron Gilbert, DE (goes a few spots before our 2nd rounder, to Miami) #52 Shonn Greene, RB #76 Louis Murphy, WR #115 Herman Johnson, OG I hate Mel Kiper. Also worth noting, here are the Patriots' picks: Donald Brown, Connor Barwin, Sean Smith, Pat White, Cornelius Ingram, Scott McKillop, Dan Gay (Pats would seem to have an affinity for Gay players, if this happens). Did I mention I hate Kiper?
How does Mitch King fit the 3-4? And it seems a little high for Richard Quinn.. And if we go WR, can't it be Kenny Britt?
wow this is horrendous, I think Kiper really feels that regardless of who our GM is we will still make bad picks. Also how the Hell does Eric Wood go before Alex Mack AND Max Unger
Kiper got one year right with the Jets in 06 when he predicted Mangold and Brick. I have Mike Mayock now who is a much better talent evaluator. Mike isn't afraid to be wrong and will never go as far to say "See you at his Hall of Fame induction" Good job on Mike Williams.
The one positive I guess is I like the positions he is going after. I would be happy if we went WR, RB, TE and DL with our first 4 picks.
Andre Brown will not be selected at number number 52. In the third round , yeah...no way the second round. Out of all the draft analysts, I hate Kiper the most. I don't mind McShay, but Mayock has the most credability. IR...your draft is much better, and I would be very happy with those selections. If McCoy is on the board in the second round, I'd take him there but Greene is legit.
I easily prefer your picks over Kiper's although I'd choose Barden over Murphy as I think we can get slot WRs with more speed and comparable or better route running polish in later rounds in prospects such as Mike Wallace and Johnny Knox. I also really like Austin Collie in the late rounds as reliable chain mover a la Chrebet. Good size and strength, decent speed, first rate route runner and outstanding hands.
for all the knocks on him Kiper has been one of the more accurate guys the last few years. The huddle report keeps track of 3 year averages here :http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/mockdraftrankings.shtml he beat mayock 2 of the last 3 and mcshay all 3, his talent evaluation may be wrong sometimes, but so is that of a lot of GMs, his mocks are actually pretty good in terms of accuracy
what I think has happened is that Kiper has been infected by McShay's stupidity. McShay really does not know a ton and seems to borrow stuff from other people. But it is clear that Mayock is the best. Also as a personality he does a really really good job at selling his guys
Rhodesfan, the reason I like McShay is because he explains the needs, and why a team would grab him. He makes sense coming from a GM perspective, whereas I personally feel Kiper talks about a players talent more than anything, and hypes up players way to much
i think your the first one i've seen liking murphy.i think he's gonna be a stud and really didn;t fit in the u.f. spread offense.if he was in a pro set in college he'd have been a first-seoncd round guy for sure
Just out of curiosity, why do you view Murphy as a slot receiver? I certainly don't, nor am I hoping to draft one this year. It's a big reason why I'm so opposed to Harvin.
yeah but thats not really goon analysis. Yeah obviously if a team needs a 3-4 rush linebacker and a 250 lb rush linebacker is available they are going to draft him, that seems kind of obvious. I know its not that obvious but personally, I think with a little bit of insight it becomes obvious of why a team would pick a certain player. But I want to know why a player deserves to be picked, what does that player do that makes him worthy of the pick and Mayock provides that
I really like the first two picks. Gilbert is a beast and Greene would be the best fit in the Jets' stable.
