I couldn't find the old thread that posted all the guys the Jets have been bringing in, but according to KFFL, this week the jets will host : Randy Lange, of NewYorkJets.com, reports the New York Jets hosted eight NFL Draft prospects Tuesday, April 7, including Missouri WR Jeremy Maclin, North Carolina WR Hakeem Nicks, Mississippi DL Peria Jerry, Rutgers DL Jamaal Westerman, Wisconsin LB Jonathan Casillas, Clemson DL Dorell Scott, North Carolina TE Richard Quinn and St. Paul CB Greg Toler. Eric Allen, of NewYorkJets.com, reports the New York Jets met with Sam Houston State QB Rhett Bomar, Ball State QB Nate Davis, Rutgers QB Mike Teel, University of Florida WR Louis Murphy, University of Connecticut OT William Beatty, University of Illinois OL Xavier Fulton, Stillman College DT Sammie Hill and University of Cincinnati CB Mike Mickens Wednesday, April 8. In addition to: Donald Brown, Kenny Britt, Andre Smith, Moreno and BJ Raji. Do you guys like the direction the Jets are going in with looking at these guys? Any players you guys don't like specifically? Any surprises? (I apologize again for not putting this in the other Draft Prospect Visits forum) For me, I'm a little surprised that out of that group, there is only one linebacker.
as of right now its two threads down, staring you in the face. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=43596
My guess is that the FO has too much invested in that position to spend any more $$ on LBers. Pace, Thomas, Gholston, and Scott are all earning top dollar at their position. maybe a late round pick, but the needs are in the skill positions.
LB is no longer a pressing need after the signing of Bart Scott. OLB: Thomas/Gholston ILB: Scott ILB: Harris OLB: Pace While we would like better production from the other OLB spot, we have a ton of money invested in Gholston and I highly doubt we tried to upgrade the position until Rex Ryan gets a full season with Gholston. If he thinks Gholston is a lost cause, then look for us to get an early OLB in 2010. If he sees promise and thinks he can make something out of Gholston, then we won't need a LB for a while. NDmick - I would like to add mid-late rounder Lee Robinson from Alcorn State though. Great combination of size, strength, speed, pass rush and coverage ability and is versatile enough to play both ILB and OLB in the 3-4. Senior year stats: 111 total tackles, 10.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 3 passes broken up, 3 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.
Here you go...polluting another thread by over-hyping Lee Robinson. You're not going to do a mock scouting visit and post it in this thread? You could also create a scenario where Lee Robinson gets drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, but then the Jets trade their 2010, 2011, and 2012 first round picks for Lee Robinson, Ben Hartsock, and their 2032 7th rounder. It's realistic!
Or the more realistic scenario in which you could continue living as New York's biggest douche bag. That's a pretty hard honor to win in New York, you must be proud. We will see who is right on Robinson in time. And when I'm right, I will make sure to gloat until you cease to post here if that glorious day ever comes.
First off, I don't live in New York...but thanks for letting us know how you feel about New Yorkers. ...and I like Lee Robinson. I even drafted him in the TGG 7-round mock...in the 7th round. You just make him seem like he's some sort of immortal at the linebacker position, when in reality he's a small-school guy that may not even get drafted. Keep on creating masterpiece threads like the incredibly realistic, Madden-esque, mock off-season clusterfuck and the Ben Hartsock trade...
A) I'm from and currently live in New York B) Lee Robinson will be drafted somewhere in the late 4th-late 6th range depending on how the first 3 and a half rounds go. I would say he's a 6th rounder but his stock has been rising as of late. And I clearly don't make him out to be a godsend at the LB position, otherwise I'd push for him early on in the draft. There are no doubts about Robinson's amazing talent, the questions regarding Robinson lie in the competition he has faced. He put some of those concerns to rest at the Texas vs. The Nation game where he was one of if not the best LB there and displayed everything I've been talking about in practices and the game. C) You can call my mock off-season Madden-esque all you want, but you can't deny two things. One, that you would not be thrilled if that was how this offseason went. And two, that last year's offseasons with the Favre and Jenkins trades, and the signings of Pace, Richardson, Woody, Faneca, Chatman and Franks, and the trade up in the 1st round to get Keller would also be considered Madden-esque if you were told all of that before it happened.
New York's biggest douchebag, heh, that was good. Love the turn this thread took. I mean, come on, its a mancrush, we've all got one (Sammie Lee Hill is mine and yes, I'd take him in the fourth)
Glad to see Louis Murphy came in. I think he's a fantastic option for us in the 3rd if Maclin is taken ahead of #17. I haven't seen anyone put Lee Robinson above the 6th, and many feel he'll be a UDFA. The fact is, ILB is a position of need, regardless of what anyone may say about our starters. We have no depth whatsoever at the position. While we may not spend a first rounder on someone, we'll clearly need to draft a quality rotational depth player in the mid to late rounds. I'm not sure I'd like to use that on a guy most feel is better suited to the outside.
He can play both ILB and OLB in the 3-4. Rex would love that seeing as he is looking for versatile LBers.
Looks like Malcolm Jenkins is being brought in as well. http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/real_scouts/entry/view/22912/jenkins_is_jersey-bound
Wow, that's quite a list. I think I'd take Kenny Britt in the 1st over any other WR. He has that #1 WR attitude, size etc.. that we could use.. He reminds me of Keyshawn for some reason.. Dorrell Scott seems like a great 3rd or 4th round prospect too.
You traded Eric 'fuckin Smith for Ryan Torain and Jesse Chatman for a 2nd rounder. It wasn't realistic and that thread was fucking retarded.
He's an interesting guy at # 17. He currently doesnt have a position but he was dominant in college and the value is certainly there at that spot. If anything he'd bring versatility, depth, size and athleticism to the secondary. Very interesting guy indeed.
If Malcolm Jenkins is there, he has to at least be considered. But I really doubt he'll make it past Houston at #15, which now doesn't have much of a need for a LB after signing Cato June.
Good posts guy, good to see your thoughts. What i meant with the linebackers, is that there is some nice guys like Cody Brown out of UConn, McKillop and my favorite (Mr.E, I think you like him to based on your south carolina avatar) Jasper Brinkley. Yes we have a lot of money invested the linebacking core, but we lack of decent depth. I would like to see us go after some quality linebackers in the middle to late rounds. On another note, I am also surprised to see us bringing in BJ Raji. Most, don't think he will make it out of the Top 10. I guess we need to be prepared if he does fall for some reason.
