Just wanted to wish all you Mets fans the best of luck in '09.

My Reds have jettisoned a bunch of deadwood (Griffey, Dunn) and are relying on speed and small ball this year... reminiscent of Jocketty's St. Louis clubs.

Fine by me. Dunn and Griffey both had the fielding ability of a fence post.

Anyway, if feels good to have a distraction until training camp in August. Play ball!

    Translation:
Replaced Adam Dunn with Willy Tavares.

Yeah pretty excited here too... going to be showing the Mets game on ESPN America tomorrow so I'll be able to see it. Still haven't decided whether or not to get the MLB package on MLB.com... I got it last year but barely ever watched it.

Adam Dunn... dead wood... nope, Cincy fans didn't deserve him.

Edit: on second thought, I rescind that if you meant that he was hitting FA and def. not coming back.

    Still, Dunn >>>>> Taveras * ∞

Baker had problems with Griffey and Dunn... Griffey's sense of entitlement was rubbing off on the younger players... detrimental to the clubhouse.

And Dunn wouldn't do what Baker wanted, which was at times just to make contact, not strike out going for the long ball.

Heck, he fits right in with all the other Reds now playing for the Nats.

As a longtime Reds fan, the quantity of suck surrounding Baker is considerably less than the other managers that failed to take the Reds to the playoffs since Davey Johnson in 1995.

With you there, in the sense that Davey Johnson always equals victory.

all the great managers make players adjust their style of play to what their idea of a hitter is, especially when the hitter has been really successful with his normal approach.

Just like Gardenhire does in Minnesota. He did it with Ortiz, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mauer starts hitting for more power when he leaves.

Snow showers, 39 degrees at gametime, 18 MPH wind out of the NW, wind chill 30 degrees. Real baseball weather! :eek:hmy:

At least it's not a night game (wind chill 25 degrees).

Sucks being out of the country for baseball season, doesn't it? At least opening day is 1pm EST so I can watch it, if they play I guess.

I live about 3 hours from Cincy, and looking out my kitchen window, it's nasty. Cold, rainy, and overcast.

I'm relying on you guys to let me know if it goes under a rain delay as we get closer to 1:10. No delay, I cut class. Delay/cancellation, I stay in class (unless the game starts up before 1:55).
