It is amazing to see how much emphasis has been put on arm strength with this latest Cutler trade. The statement that Cutler "has one of the strongest, if not the strongest arms in the game" has come out of every single analysts mouth the second they begin to break down Cutler.

This board is no stranger to QB arm strength discussions having that have been the center topic of discussion for most of the Penny years. So I post this poll - who has the stronger arm to make all the throws between the two QB's currently on our team fighting for the starting spot.

    K Clemens or
    B Ratliff

I think both have good enough arm strength. Clemens' is good, Ratliff has a cannon.

Ratliff has the more catchable ball and the stronger arm.

Ratliff has a cannon? i don't know about that, i think both have arms that are comprable to each other, either one has the arm to get it done.

Why do you think everyone's all over Ratty's cawk? Those bombs he threw during preseason looked effortless. Clemens' strength was rated as average coming out of Oregon.

I've heard people saying that Clemens' throws are hard to catch.

(remember the preseason game where he had like 7 drops in 1 quarter...I know some are on receiver but still)

During the Kellen Clemens experiment I noticed a lame duck wobbly pass. It could have been due to the trembling and shaking of his knees im not really sure.

Brett Ratliff rifled passes with zing and distance cannon like.

I remember back in the 07 season finale against KC, Clemens launched a ball to Cotchery that traveled about 50-60 yards in the air (Cotch dropped it)

I think Clemens has a pretty decent arm

Yeah, look how hard these throws were to catch:

Man, I never really realized how bad the second drop was. It went right through his hands.

When I think of quarterback arm strength, I don't think about how far they throw or who can throw the farthest. I think what's more important is how much zip/velocity the qb can get on his throws in the 10 yard, 20 yard, and 30 yard range pass attempts. Just about any NFL qb can loft a ball way up 50-60 yards down field, even pre-injury pennington could make that throw.

So I guess the better question, in terms of arm strength, is who has more zip on the ball?

the only reason arm strength is an important factor is because of how windy the Meadowlands is... and if you need to get the ball down field.. your gunna need a lil extra arm strength..

I don't get how some NFL QBs have such weak arms. One day during HS football practice we were messing around and seeing who could throw the furthest. Our QB, who wasn't very good, could throw 65 yards easily. I threw a few close to 65, but I think 63 was my best.

It's insane to see Ratliff blowing Kellen away with this poll...Kellen has a REALLY good arm and a really strong one if you ask me.

    See for yourself

Those passes by Kellen may not have been 80 yard bombs, but thats not what I look for in a QB with a strong arm, I wanna see the ball get their with "Zip" before the defenders have time to make a play on the ball and Kellen can do just that.

I cant wait to see this kid behind our O-Line and rushing attack next year.
