Leberfeld was just on "The Gresh Show" with Andy Gresh and laid out the whole Cutler scenario in a Jets perspective...Gotta love this Sirius Radio since I can re-wind live radio, and get the quotes correctly! Enjoy.

Gresh - Jets don't get Cutler...How involved were they?
Leberfeld - They called. Mike T looked into everything. But they didn't want to pony up 1st round draft picks with a new coach, and he wanted Ryan to get his players to build with. Doesn't have a problem with price-tag Chicago paid, very rare for a 25 year old Franchise QB this stage of his career.

Gresh - What kind of skill players that Rex Ryan wants to go after?
Leberfeld - Baltimore formula. Great D. Dominating run game, and a QB that has to do a minimum. Likes the Jets to get Shonn Greene in the 2nd round, wants a big guy. Rumor that the Jets will bring in Matt Jones.

Gresh - Confidence for Clemens with no Cutler?
Leberfeld - Don't forget Ratliff. Big guy, big arm, he's the guy who replaced Alex Smith at Utah. We saw what Baltimore with Flacco, Jets have faith in Ratliff or Clemens.

Gresh - Mangini goes to Browns...Surprised Browns didn't go after Cutler?
Leberfeld - Reportedly offered Quinn in a 3-way deal in the last minute, but it fell thru. Could have a Cutler situation if Quinn wants to whine about it. Thinks Bus Cook is a trouble maker, see McNair and Favre, now Cutler.

great thread, Ecko...thanks for posting. I was waiting to hear what the Jets braintrust was thinking during the Cutler fiasco.

-Glad to see Tanny didn't want to throw Rex under the bus and turf his draft picks/building blocks.

-Uggghh...the line about the QB that has to do the minimum scares me. I REALLY hope that doesn't translate into selecting Josh Freeman.

Sounds like Tanny and Rex have a direction/plan to follow through....I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Getting Jones would be a great move if Rex can get him to focus on the game and not, you know, drugs and stuff.

Sounds like we did the right thing, inquired, but in the end decided that Rex needs to build his own team. Looking forward to the draft to see which direction we will go.

Great read. I'm growing more and more intrigued by Shonn Greene. I think he fits what I'd like to see added to our backfield better than the 1st round backs, for a better value. Hopefully that means we'll take a jump on Gilbert in the first.

I wouldn't mind Matt Jones, but every bit of his potential is STILL untapped. Maybe Ellard can bring it out? I don't know.

I do have to say, if it came down to the 1st rounders, I disagree. Those were a good price for Cutler.

Wow, look at that. The GM working with the coach to get the coach HIS players. What a concept. Right Don

Considering this type of system has won ONE title in the past 25 years I am starting think the Jets are in for another four years of mediocrity before a new regime (GM & Coach) is installed.

    ugh.

Me 2, believe me...Your not the only one.

Just look @ this video, this video shows what this kid can do.

this kid is a BEAST and I'm not comparing him to Adrian Peterson, but he runs like Peterson...He runs with evil intentions and I love it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrWZwH9VVJU

Lets hope this guy is still there in the 2nd because if he is...Shonn Greene and Leon Washington will be the future of the Jets and they would make for a perfect Power/Quickness 1-2 punch for YEARS to come.

Fuck waiting for this dude to fall in the 2nd, if the Jets land their man in the 1st and stay put @ 17...I'm all for a little trade up in the 2nd to draft this kid.

No need to trade up. He's projected to the 3rd round, maybe late 2nd. He'll be there when we pick.

one would hope so...I like what I see and maybe we can draft someone else in the 2nd if he's really projected as a 3rd round talent THEN make the trade up in round 3 for the man

Not trying to get to cute here so I wouldnt be upset if we draft him @ #2 but I like his overall game and the energy he could bring to our backfield with pure power

Im gone 2 bed, peacE out

get the fuck away from Matt Jones.

everything else is fine - let's make the QB a clutch leader even though he's not doing much. Dilfer was the leader in that huddle, he didn't become a JAG that year. He stepped the fuck up after Banks sat in midseason.

I have watched those JB highlights numerous times and it still sucks you in. The play at 3:44 is absurd. He must have had really strong hands as he carried the ball pretty far away from his body.

Heard an interesting tidbit about the whole Cle deal. According to the guys on NFL radio Cutler and agent wanted nothing to do with Mangini which basically killed the deal.

Hah and Mangini "denying" that he had a deal close to deal Quinn is hilarious.

Well he was on again tonight before the draft...Here's the recap.

Gresh - Jets @ 17, lots of talk of Sanchez, give me a percentage on the chance?

Leberfeld - A team designed to win now with the high priced free agents the last 2 seasons, doesn't see the move of Sanchez. So if they traded up for Sanchez, what're they doing? Stop getting sucked into the philosophy of Ryan/Flacco. Sees them staying at 17, or moving up a few slots to grab someone else they like.

Gresh - Is that someone a WR? Is that the #1 target on the board?

Leberfeld - Its a top target, but no more than two 1st round WRs, only Maclin and Crabtree are in this draft...Everyone else is a reach. Harvin off-field issues/injuries, Britt too many drops, Heyward-Bey too many drops. If Maclin slips to 13-14, Jets trade up in my opinion.

Gresh - Do you think their is another position Mike T can find some value and surprise everyone?

Leberfeld - I think Knoshown Moreno would entice him at 17. Jones age of 31, contract issue. Needs the depth. Very lucky Jones and Leon didn't miss any games last year. Thinks Moreno a Pro-Bowl RB on the next level.

His highlights are pretty damn sick.

I would be happy if they take Greene. I didn't get to watch him in college but after all of the clips I've watched recently I really like the way he runs - seems like he has an amazingly low center of gravity and never stops moving forward. Pretty quick feet for a power guy too. I'd still like to see them take Moreno if he's available in the first, but if not I think Greene would be a good choice and a good compliment to LW.
