Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham In this installment you will find the latest from ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, NFL.com's Charles Davis, Jamie Dukes and Steve Wyche, Sports Illustrated's Don Banks, NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang and Chad Reuter and the National Football Post's Wes Bunting and Michael Lombardi. McShay's version provides an intriguing twist. He drew his up to answer the question "What would happen if the Lions didn't select Matthew Stafford with the first pick?" The trickle down affect was significant throughout, but impacted his projections for only two AFC East clubs. McShay changed the Jets' No. 17 pick from Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez to Florida receiver Percy Harvin and the Miami Dolphins' No. 25 choice from Southern California linebacker Brian Cushing to Illinois cornerback Vontae Davis. Lombardi's mock is the first I've seen involving an AFC East trade, with the Jets and Buffalo Bills swapping first-round picks. No. 11 Buffalo Bills Kiper's pick: Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State tight end McShay's pick: Everette Brown, Florida State defensive end Davis' pick: Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State defensive back Dukes' pick: Aaron Maybin, Penn State defensive end/linebacker Wyche's pick: Everette Brown, Florida State defensive end Banks' pick: Aaron Maybin, Penn State defensive end/linebacker Rang's pick: Everette Brown, Florida State defensive end Reuter's pick: Robert Ayers, Tennessee defensive end Bunting's pick: Robert Ayers, Tennessee defensive end Lombardi's pick (trade down to No. 17 from Jets): Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State tight end No. 17 New York Jets Kiper's pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver McShay's pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver Davis' pick: Josh Freeman, Kansas State quarterback Dukes' pick: Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest cornerback Wyche's pick: Josh Freeman, Kansas State quarterback Banks' pick: Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland receiver Rang's pick: Jeremy Maclin, Missouri receiver Reuter's pick: Josh Freeman, Kansas State quarterback Bunting's pick: Josh Freeman, Kansas State quarterback Lombardi's pick (trade up to No. 11 from Bills): Josh Freeman, Kansas State quarterback No. 23 New England Patriots Kiper's pick: Clay Matthews, Southern California linebacker McShay's pick: Clay Matthews, Southern California linebacker Davis' pick: Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest cornerback Dukes' pick: Darius Butler, Connecticut cornerback Wyche's pick: Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest cornerback Banks' pick: Larry English, Northern Illinois outside linebacker Rang's pick: Clay Matthews, Southern California linebacker Reuter's pick: Aaron Maybin, Penn State defensive end/outside linebacker Bunting's pick: Sean Smith, Utah defensive back Lombardi's pick: Larry English, Northern Illinois outside linebacker No. 25 Miami Dolphins Kiper's pick: Vontae Davis, Illinois cornerback McShay's pick: Vontae Davis, Illinois cornerback Davis' pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver Dukes' pick: Hakeen Nicks, North Carolina receiver Wyche's pick: Percy Harvin, Florida receiver Banks' pick: Clint Sintim, Virginia outside linebacker Rang's pick: Connor Barwin, Cincinnati outside linebacker Reuter's pick: Vontae Davis, Illinois cornerback Bunting's pick: Ron Brace, Boston College defensive tackle Lombardi's pick: Brian Cushing, Southern California linebacker *** I want to know how and why would we trade UP to grab Freeman when more than likely he will be sitting right there at 17. If anything we trade up to the 49ers spot, 10 I think, and grab Sanchez. We would be wasting a pick in the later rounds. I think it would take a 3rd rounder to make the trade "even" and it would not be worth that to me. If anything happens, we should try and grab Detroit's #20 and either draft the WR we didn't get at 17 or if we did get a WR, hope that Vonte Davis is there and draft him. That would give us #17 and #20. It's doubtful that it will happen, but, I'm a Jets fan and hopes are all I've got.
How about we don't take any overrated, unproven qb and instead we continue to build up the front 7 on defense?
Docny, it says Upstate NY? Where at? I'm from there too. Would you guys take Harvin over Nicks? I usually take what Mel Kiper says as FACT, but, no, I think he's dead wrong. Harvin won't be the pick. I think we take Nicks over over Harvin, but, if Maclin is there, we should take him. HEY, we might be able to trade up to Buffalo's slot like that guy said and take Maclin if he is still there. I could actually see that happening!!
MB, do I need to remind you of the past Jets drafts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxNeFLuY98 :shit:
We won't trade up for Freeman. I think we'll take him at 17 though, which I'd be thrilled with. I'm warming up to the idea of Harvin and at this point, I'd be ok with it. He gives us a Leon-effect out of the passing game and will be a huge weapon for Clemens.
I'm all for drafting Freeman, personally I like the big sized QB and I've heard comparisons to Big Ben, which isn't a bad thing. If we draft Harvin, do you think it would hurt Leon? I wouldn't want to have Leon's role lessened due to use having another "Pace changer". How would you put both of them on the field at the same time and be effective? Most of the time when you see Leon on the field, he's the go to guy. If we draft Harvin and he is on the field all the time as our #2, then Leon jogs on, how would that be a positive impact?
Aside from Maclin, who likely won't be there, those are terrible picks. Smith may be an ok pick, but aren't they all pretty much banking on Vontae Davis still being there at 17? I'd prefer him at the position.
That video almost makes me cry every single time. I hear "We want Sapp" in my dreams and then Kyle Brady fucking shows up.
I live right outside West Point. I've actually lived in Upstate ny (by my definition upstate is past Middletown, Newburgh area but for anyone in NYC once your past 125th street your upstate. :wink up by Syracuse as well. I think Nicks might drop down into 2nd I might move up to grab him with our second if that does. I'm looking for a DE Gilbert, I like Sean Smith as well. Maclin if available then Nicks isn't needed. Knowshon is a nice idea as well didnt warm up to that idea till I heard he grew up a Jets fan.
I've never been there. I'm up in Albany dealing with our idiot of a governor. He's awful! Adding a new tax on beer was my last straw on him. I don't see Nicks getting past the Giants to be honest. I think they are going to want someone to replace Plax who will be in jail this season. If we want Nicks we should grab him at 17 or get past the Giants somehow. Knowshon is going to be a great player depending on who picks him. He will need a line first of all and I think we have a very solid line. If we get Knowshon, we trade TJ and bring in a youth movement at the RB position. Let Leon/Knowshon handle the touches and I think we'd be pretty good. I'm kinda now sold on drafting Knowshon...I LOVE THE DRAFT!!
I think the Giants will go for DHB or Britt. I like Britt as well just not at 17 if we can trade down into the mid 20's then I say go for him. All politicians need to be taken out back and shot I think its time for a revolution. It should be you can't be a lawyer before being a politician they just muck up the works.
Woah... I don't like ANY of those scenarios. Is there anyway that we could trade down because it doesn't seem like there are too many good options at #17 at this point... I'd even take someone like Clay Matthews or Clint Sintim over DHB, Josh Freeman or Percy Harvin. I have an odd feeling that it will be one of those three guys when all is said and done unfortunately...
I really think WRs are going to go very fast this year. This is how I think it might go down #6 Cleveland Brown - Michael Crabtree #8 Jacksonville Jaguars - Jeremy Maclin #17 New York Jets - Percy Harvin #20 Detroit Lions - Kenny Britt #26 Baltimore Ravens - Darrius Heyward-Bey #29 New York Giants - Hakeem Nicks Just my .02 on this.
you do realize that the new lions regime would be murdered if they drafted a WR in the first round right? I mean they just got finished with the Matt Millen era for gods sake, when you need everything, and you are the lions, you take anybody BUT a WR, unless for some screwed up reason you have Michael Crabtree fall into your lap at 20. also i still want no part of Harvin, so i hope you list is wrong there too....
I hope I'm wrong too, but, from what I'm seeing Harvin might be the guy and if Sanchez isn't there, there is NO real sure pick. Detroit has a history of drafting badly, I can see them getting Stafford #1 and picking up a young WR to go along with him in hopes of having a really nice combo for the next 10 years. Crazier things have happened.
