Seriously, we all realize when's the last time the Jets won the Super Bowl, that doesn't mean we don't have stuff to discuss that the majority of us have seen and can talk about. It gets tiring to hear that nothing matters except some shit that most of us didn't even see. We get it, we don't care. There have been a LOT of good players to come through the Jets organization over the past 40 years, whether champ can get his old head around that or not.
Then if we have had lot of "good" players come thru the NYJ organization in the last 40 years as U claim why have we not won another WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP?
No one is arguing that. It's simply irrelevant to the thread. The argument was with regards to NFL Drafts after 1967. Are you suggesting that the drafts in 67 and 68 were mostly responsible for the SB victory? Those are the only drafts that would qualify for this thread, and I'd argue the earlier drafts had much more of an impact. I mean, would you say Boozer and Elliott were the MVPs of the game? You were around, so you'd know better than I would, but I doubt you would say that. We can't judge our drafts from the past 3 years yet, but I'd like to think that our recent drafts have put us more in a position to compete than any drafts that we've had SINCE THE COMMON DRAFT AND OUR ENTRANCE INTO THE NFL. If you'd like to argue that point, please do. If you'd like to argue a completely different point that is unrelated, I really don't know what to say other than to try to feign surprise again.
As of now I'd make the case for Walt Michaels' drafts of 1977-82. He built the lines first with Powell, Ward and Fields on O, Klecko, Gastineau and Lyons on D (Lyons and Gastineau #s 1-2 in 79), got Wesley Walker and Michey Shuler for the passing game, and when that was set up, got Freeman McNeil to plug in last. Along the way also picked up Bruce Harper, some good complimentary players, took a moribound team of the mid 70s and made them a powerhouse that lasted through most of the 80s even after he was gone. It's hard to match that today because guys don't stay long enough to plan it all out like that. But I like what Tannenbaum has done so far, you can't argue with the talent he's put on the field. I think we're going in the right direction.
POWERHOUSE what POWERHOUSE are U talking about? I opened up the NYJ history book to the 1980s & NO WHERE in there did I see the words WORLD CHAMPIONS after our name in the 80s. IMHO my opinion is you & most all those NYJ fans that came after the SB3 win are in total denial because you have never/ever seen a NYJ WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP so you make excuses for the losing ways of the NYJs year after year & use words like "powehouse" & "great" & "good teams" etc, etc, etc to rationalize yourself why you are still a fan. The only 2 teams that were SB competing teams were the 82 & 98 teams. Outside of those 2 years we are totally devoid of competing for the SB since our own SB win. you should check out the NYJ history book 1st before posting silliness like what U posted. Always remember that if we do not win the SB or WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP the NYJs had a UNSUCCESSFUL season since the regular season & then the POs are played only to win the SB.
If you feel that way & if U feel that we are on the way to be an elite status team in the NFL why should I try to burst ur bubble
The 1981 and 82 teams were among the best in the NFL. Then they went back to the playoffs in 1985 and 86 with most of the same core and stayed competitive throughout the 80s.
Then if they were among the "best" during the years you posted why were they not WORLD CHAMPIONs during the period U mentioned? Somehow U just cannot grasp that unless you win SB U are just an also ran which is what the NYJs have been for the last 40 years
Not to highjack this thread, But, it burns my ass and a bunch of other parts as well that Joe Klecko has not gotten in to the Hall of Fame yet. Only player in NFL history to be all pro at THREE different spots on the D line.... This fact alone is how I know the Jets get no freaking respect from the NFL. This is an injustice beyond belieif and many of the players he layed out have stated this fact many times over , now that is high praise......
If you can't distinguish "among the best" from "Super Bowl Champions" that's not my problem. The early 80s Jets were clearly among the best teams in the NFL, as were the Chargers of that era, the Bills of the early 90s and countless other teams that never won a Super Bowl.
So that makes them less then the "best" as you posted right? Also rans like the NYJs, Bflo or SD or any other also ran gets no kudos or awards for being less then the BEST who would be the SB winner. As they say since SB3 the NYJs did not have the right stuff unlike what our space program did or like Tiger Woods has they were the BEST in what they endeavored because they succeeded while we have failed year after year
You either can't read English or you just want to argue. My guess is the latter, like when you were splitting hairs over December 1968 and January 1969 being two different years, when the point was it was the same post-season.
So once U cannot reply to the question U immediately move to slandering someone instead of just saying that what U posted was totally incorrect
I didn't post anything that is incorrect. Once again, if you don't know the difference between "among the best" and "Super Bowl champs", that's on you, not me. I stand behind everything I've posted, if you don't like it too bad.
