And I hate statements like that. Not all cops are like this, like any profession there are assholes. The assistant chief even said he did the wrong thing and put him on desk duty. One of my oldest friends is a NYC police officer, they are not all like this, no where near it. Just the bad apples get the press.
Most of the assholes i grew up with as a kid became cops. They're on a power trip to make people listen to them because they were never relivent growing up. I've had my share of run ins with asshole cops like that. That bastard should be fired.
My father is a cop I have 7 uncles that are cops. Not gonna even go into cousins that are cops. (Irish family its funny how some traditions are) Yes they are all assholes. Love them when they not on the job but once they put that uniform on totally different person.
I'd be surprised if he got fired for this, but it seems clear to me that that officer will be put on modified duty for a while, be made to attend classes of some sort, be pushed back in terms of promotion, etc.
What kind of way is this to talk people who put their lives on the line everyday for a bunch of ingrates who cry to them whenever they need help? And furthermore, for some of you, its your own family! How about those 4 in Oakland--were they assholes? How about the two SWAT guys who went through the door to apprehend a murderer--assholes I guess? Before I catch the shit, let me tell you that I was railroaded by 2 bad cops from Garden City in the 80's--these SOB's were shit--but still, if some mugger was robbing me or my family, I would want the police to stop it--at their own risk. Criminals are assholes--not the people who try and stop them.
Yea def not a need to fire him. The public may say he should but that would be a lawsuit for the cop then. Just put him on desk duty for awhile and have him learn to be a decent human being for a change.
I totally respect the job cops do. One of my uncles that was a cop was shot and killed by a prisoner escaping so I know that it can be a cruel and thankless job. The shield they have to put up to defend who they are as a person can cause any normal person to crack. Its just that more then the majority are dicks and assholes that are on powertrips or what have you.
There's bad seeds everywhere and the cop in the story sounds pretty f**cked up in the head. It's like that Marine that threw the puppy off the cliff in Iraq. Knuckleheads are everywhere, most are of low intelligence and like someone said earlier - have the power trip now that they are older and hold some type of position of authority.
Remember that when you or someone you know needs to be saved by a Police officer. That guy was an ass, but I am sure there is an asshole in every profession. The only reason officers get a bad rep is because they are on the front line of dealing with douche bags every second of every day. I have the greatest respect for those who are willing to put their lives in danger for the benefit of society.
