    Didn't see this anywhere.

The Jets continued their aggressive offseason to upgrade the defense Wednesday by reaching a three-year deal with 49ers cornerback Donald Strickland, a source said.

Since the start of free agency, the Jets have been seeking a veteran cornerback to go with Darrelle Revis and Lito Sheppard. They looked at Corey Ivy of the Ravens and former Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle.

Other terms of the deal weren't immediately available.

The 5-10, 187-pound Strickland will be joining his fourth team. He was a third-round choice of the Colts in 2003. He went to the Eagles in 2005. He spent the past three years in San Francisco.

In three seasons with the 49ers, Strickland had 10 starts.

I'm sorry, I don't see the F'ing point to this signing. 3 years for a guy that wasn't all that important to even the 9'ers?

    Ugh.

Who cares what the years are? These contracts are year to year and you can just cut a player.

Then why bother signing him to a 3 year? If you look at he guy's career, 3 years looks like an eternity.

Like the other poster said the length of nfl contracts means nothing. You can bet most of the contract is due in year 3 and he will never see it. If the guy turns out to worth something he contract gets reworked next year if he sucks he gets cut.

Because then the FO has the sole power of deciding if he stays or not, not Strickland himself.

what is this the 60s?? They aren't year to year. The way the money is guaranteed its not 3 separate years. There is dead money if you cut someone mid contract.

the only way is if the contract is set up so there is no cap hit in the last year by cutting Strickland, otherwise there will be dead money either this year or year 2.

I doubt the contract is large. I don't see a significant amount of dead money on this type of player.

People are getting upset about signing a three year deal, when they do not even know the terms of said deal. It could all be incentive based with a low base salary. At least that is what I hope it is.

The question is whether this guy can play man coverage opposite Revis. Anybody know?

Is this going to be the last move made on the secondary?

I guess it improves the chances the team goes wr in the draft with an upper pick...

What are you talking about? It all depends on how the bonus is set up. If there aren't large bonuses in either the second or third year the Jets could cut him after one year and have no or very little dead money.

The Jets signed Sheppard to play opposite Revis. This signing is for a nickel or dime CB.

Signing a nobody CB after already signing Lito Sheppard and before the draft, where we might pick up a quality CB, doesn't indicate faith in our current CBs. I guess when they watched game tape of Drew Coleman, Ty Law, Ahmad Carroll and David Barrett last year they saw some things they didn't like. Like automatic third down conversions.

I think there are some substantial questions about whether Shepard can play man coverage with any consistency.

This isnt a bad signing. I wanted Ivy as the Nickel back but that didnt happen and he signed with Cleveland. Strickland should hopefully push Lowery.
