First off, credit to a thread on The Crane Pool Forum, a Mets forum, for the information and links... Here we go. From Jeff Pearlman: For the record, Reggie Jefferson never played with or against Piazza at any point in his career. And Jefferson is a bitter, bitchy person who quit baseball when the Sox left him off their playoff roster in '99. Now, for some OLDER articles... So... Piazza used. Whether you want to believe it was true or not that he found it "overrated" and "gave it up," is up to you. Personally, I want to believe it. I really do. I don't know if I can. However... it doesn't taint him in my eyes. I'm accepting the idea that nearly every power hitter, if not all of them, has used in this steroids era. No one is safe.
I am really looking forward to hearing all the Mets' fans explanations as to why Piazza admitting to using steroids doesn't taint him, but ARod/Giambi/Sheffield admitting to using steroids taints them. Should be really entertaining. Disclaimer: "Because he's a NY Met" or "Because he did it before everyone and stopped" do not suffice as reasoning.
Looks like another would be legend bites the dust...And another one bites the dust. Sad days for baseball as of right now
Andro isint an anabolic and was available over the counter for years. Trying to draw a line between andro and the anabolics that the Mitchel Report guys were on is pathetic.
I don't care about the andro, but based on what Pearlman wrote, it appears that Piazza used. My first reaction is, this sucks. My second reaction is that I probably would have noticed this five years ago if I wasn't in such denial. And my third reaction is that everybody used; we've reached the point where it really doesn't matter any more. There are certain eras in baseball, and the most recent one is the steroids era.
dude please stop the stupididty. The article says thats what PIAZZA admits to. So that of course you believe. But you dont believe every reporter and every player who said how obvious it was that he was on roids. Look at the before and after pictures-its beyond obvious. You are just a complete shill for the Mets and your posts are absolutely worthless......pure garbage.
Absolutely the same way I feel about Arod and Giambi blah blah as a yankee fan...but certain posters like the one above me and mr millionaire love to post how the yankees titles are tainted because of roids ...hahahah pure stupidity.
Oh okay. So it isn't made in the BALCO labs so it's just barely illegal; if you're a ballplayer and you use andro you're not cheating you're just smarter than everyone.... I hear you crazydave.
Wow what a shocker, who would have thought that Piazza was using.. My response is the same as when every other player is outed. Who the fuck cares already!
I have no idea if he used steroids, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if he did. I do think that people holding up A-Rod as an example of an unfair comparison is pretty funny, however. There certainly is a parallel between A-Rod and Piazza, and that's that neither was ever lumped in with Giambi, Bonds, etc. - until A-Rod was outed. A-Rod lost the chance to plausibly deny anything when he tested positive and it came out, and the same would be true of Piazza if it turned out that he tested positive (if he's one of those 103 other positive test results, for example). Giambi and Bonds admitted using steroids in the grand jury, and Palmeiro tested positive, so they also can't plausibly deny anything (there also was stacks of evidence related to Giambi and Bonds from BALCO). The people who can legitimately complain right now about Piazza perhaps getting away unscathed are McGwire and Sosa. Neither ever tested positive, no evidence was ever found that they bought or used steroids, yet both have had their reputations completely ruined.
It's to the point where if I was a HoF voter, I'd say fuck it, and vote for guys like Bond and McGwire and whatnot. Everyone was using. They were the best of their era. Yeah, they used, but it was a level playing field. Whatever. I still love baseball.
What do you call a performance enhancer that doesn't enhance performance? Andro. http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/281/21/2020?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=164360&rendertype=abstract Calling Andro a PED is a joke. So yeah, lets lump Piazza in with ANABOLIC STEROID users cause he took Andro. Sure. Lets equate people who smoke crack cocaine with people who smoke marijuana.
Either way, still against the rules. Or is supposed to be. Forgive me if it wasn't at the time. I'm assuming it was, just wasn't tested. I don't care enough about steroids to really know the history of them in baseball.
Andro was not against the rules in baseball at that time, and was available over the counter (without a prescription). It was already banned at that time by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the NFL and the IOC, however.
