If it cost us our 1st round pick and maybe a late rounder, I'd consider it. Any more than that, and I wouldn't bother. I know that Clemens was a good QB in college. I was impressed with him, however, I'm not convinced he's going to amount to an NFL starting QB. Ratliff is a huge unknown to me. Never saw him in college, and never saw him until the preseason obviously. But the kid has talent, and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I'd like it if we just threw them in the fire and see what comes out. Let them battle it out for the starting gig and stop killing their confidence with all these big names coming in.
Dude, c'mon. The difference is he did it against a lot of teams throughout the season. Don't compare these clowns to Cutler. The original premise was that Cutler had nothing to do with the win. Clearly he did. That was my only point in responding.
Why clearly? I don't agree with you at all. The win came from their running game, the Jets inability to stop the run, and from the Jets gaffes on offense. From that, I can conclude that, while Cutler had some impressive statistics, he didn't really factor that much into that win. You can make an argument that he contributed, you cannot make an argument that he won that game for them. I'd be willing to say he contributed some, but I don't think what he did was any great feat.
And I agree he did it to a lot of teams, but he's pretty inconsistent if you want to go by the numbers. He also throws a decent # of Favre-esque picks. I can't wait for this issue to be laid to rest, whether we get him or not, but I'm just sick of the speculation.
If you honestly believe he had nothing to do with the win then I don't think you understand football. I'm not saying what he did was any great feat. He lit up the Jets secondary like many QB's did last year and definitely had something to do with the win. If all they needed to do is run the ball to win then why the hell did they even bother passing? And why so many times? Again - 618 passes and 18 picks isn't too bad. 1:33 pick/attempt ratio. Yes he throws some bad passes, he's a gunslinger. His career pick/attempt ratio is pretty close to Peyton Mannings though (1:34 to 1:36). I don't think there's any way in hell we're getting Cutler. I still hope we do though.
There's rumors that the Lions are open to trading their #1 overall pick for Cutler I hate Cutler but he's a great player so I'd like him to see here...if not it'd be sick if he ended up in Detroit
I'm not making excuses. I'm saying what Cutler did wasn't an 'impressive feat'. I watched the game a week ago and the Broncos offense didn't 'shred our defense' or 'light us up'. Not knocking on Cutler, but he really didn't play that well for most of the game. We gave them 2, maybe 3 big plays plus the Cotch "fumble" and they took advantage of them. If it weren't for that (non)fumble, we could have just as easily been tied or up going into the half.
There is no such thing as fair value for a 25 year old proven franchise QB. I would think long and hard about giving up two #1s but don't think it will cost that much if Denver does decide to trade him. I would certainly give a first plus other picks in the next two drafts. In the end this conversation is most likely going to become pointless as there is no way Denver trades him.
Whatever man. If Clemens had that game in the wind and rain you'd be blowing him. Hell if he had that game with on a sunny 65 degree day with no wind you'd be blowing him. I don't think it was necessarily an amazing feat, but yeah, he lit up our defense. What does he need to do, pass for 500 yards and 4 TD's to impress you guys?
He has started only two years and he has 54 TDS to 37 picks which for a young QB is fantastic. Anything over 50% is considered great at that stage.
Some people just don't get it. Cutler had a good game against us. His TD pass to Eddie Royal on the sidelines was an awesome play. I can't really blame Jets fans for not knowing the impact of a good QB on our team, since we really haven't had a good one since Vinny in '98
I realize the weather was a factor and when you take that into account, yeah Cutler played pretty well, but that doesn't mean he lit up our defense.. because for most of the game he didn't.
Denver won't make that trade. Nobody wants that #1 pick and the 60 + contract that comes with it. Of course Detroit would make that trade. They would probably trade the 1 and 20 to get him.
After that game all of TGG was lamenting how we let a rookie FB tear us to shreds. Right after the game we all knew why we lost - we couldn't stop the run. Now 6 months later it was the amazing play of Cutler that beat us? Your right, some people just dont get it.
What has Cutler done in his 2+ seasons as a Starter that has made him a "Proven Franchise QB"? Has he led the Broncos to the playoffs? No. Does he have a career winning % as a starting QB? No. Is he causing problems in Denver by complaining and wanting out? Yes. A real "Franchise QB" Should respect his contract. Has he shown ANY TYPE of leadership ability? Hell no. The only thing "Proven" about Cutler is that he's a complete asshole. Did he really compare his arm to Elway? Are you fucking kidding me? I dont care how great he thinks he is...You dont compare yourself to a QB like Elway; a QB who left it all on the field with each and every play on Sundays for the Broncos. No respect from Cutler, none what so ever. Please...Someone tell me and let me know what this "Franchise QB" has proven thus far
Cutler has a great fucking arm, and theres no doubts about it. He's confident. I like that in my QB, how about you? He got a raw deal by some pissant BB-ite who will more than likely be looking for a job in 3 years. I'd take Cutler in a fucking SECOND.
Thank you! That's exactly what I'm saying. But trust me, as soon as it comes out we're not getting Cutler, he'll go back to being an overrated big-armed QB on this board.
I'm not so sure about that, I think some Jet fans have been in love with this Cutler guy ever since the draft and I think thats because Pennington (Who some call "Noodle Arm") has been our QB for years now, I guess some Jet fans just fell in love with a QB like Cutler since he had a STRONG arm, and thats about it. Once it's final that the Jets ARE NOT getting Cutler...These same fans will say "I told you so" If Cutler EVER makes it to the playoffs...This will never end.
Now having a great arm and actually knowing what to do with it is what, a bad thing? Yes I'd rather have Pennington and his inability to make half the throws a decent NFL QB could, then have Cut who has a strong arm with good touch.
