    nice read.

I support Rex....but before I start getting all giddy over Gholston....i want to see some results. We all know he can lift weights...let's see what he can do on the field.

I hope Rex uses him solely in pass rushing situations this season.

This is the kind of coach all Jets fans have been waiting for since, well forever.

Good stuff! Season can't start soon enough.

That's very reassuring. This sounds screwed up, but I'd be much happier if Vernon busts because he gave it his all and just didn't have it in him than if he busted because he couldn't care less.

But frankly, a player that wants to try hard, that has Rex Ryan for a head coach, and has the tangibles that Vernon has? It's very difficult for a player like that to bust.

"He's ready to come out and, believe me, it's in there. We all know it's in there. But it's my job to get this guy playing at a high level by any means necessary, and that's what we're going to do."

I've been saying the whole time, since we landed Rex Ryan as our HC...If anyone can bring the best outta VG, it's Rex Ryan. His track record speaks for itself interms of turning young athletes into solid football players.

The sky is the limit for Rex Ryan and VG. In Baltimore he had a toy car by the name of Suggs...He has a toy Jet here in NY by the name of Gholston

That had me laughing a bit too. Good line. Gholston probably read that and thought "hmmm...thats it? I can do..that?"

I guess that casts more doubt on Don's whole "Gholston is lazy" mantra. What will he dream of next?

Gotta love the attitude Rex has towards everything Rex might not have Head Coach exp be he talks one already. Here's hoping for all the talk coming true. Can't wait for the season to start already ugh and we still have the draft coming. So very long till the season starts.

A new staff and new defense can only help him. Glad he's still lifting weights--so am I but I'm not about to suit up for the Jets.

You can only hope that he was totally humiliated by his effort last year. Maybe when he got home all his friends called him a punk.

This year he seems to be putting in the effort and if he doesn't get it done now he never will.

I'm pumped up like crazy after reading what Rex had to say about Vernon...I think last year could have been the best thing that ever happened to Gholston during his NFL career (Had a failure of a season, stat wise) And now he's already working hard so it doesnt happen again.

In boxing, you dont know if you can get up from a KO blow until, well, until you get Knocked out and with Gholston, I'm glad that he's already working hard during the offseason this way a 1 tackle season doesnt ko him again

If Gholston makes the Pro Bowl, Ill make sure I let everyone know that rmagedon6 called it 1st

I was thinking the same thing. I understand the need for these players to bulk up and improve their strength, but the guy is big enough as it is. Looking at how stiff he looked running last year, and how horrible his tackling was, I was thinking maybe he should be working on tackling fundamentals, and maybe watching some film to learn how to read and react better (granted, that's not what Ryan's defense is about, but still).

I guess Ryan must be telling him to get as big as he can cause all he's gonna have to worry about is plowing tackles or HB's and bull-rush the QB on every play. Hell, if that works, and we see him tally up some sacks, I'm with it.

If that is all we can get for 40 million bucks then we lose and still need to find another real OLB.

It's too bad they don't still have the Europe league for guys to go and get work, he'd be the perfect guy to send over there for reps and game experience, to work on technique, like you said. Hard to work on tackling in March.

That's true. Actually I read an article on ESPN magazine about tackling in the NFL and how poor it's been in recent years. Many, if not all, teams don't really practice tackling techniques for fear of players getting hurt whether it be in training camp or practice. I was going more along the lines of learning from watching tape, even tho that's very limited. Taking better angles, containment, and wrapping up.

Maybe the answer to all this nonsense is to simply feed Gholston raw babies and put blinders on him on Sunday. Then sit back and watch the magic unfold.
