The combined brainpower of the entirety of sports media would still be decidedly unimpressive. You'll forgive me if I don't take their circle jerking as evidence of anything.

Besides, their job isn't to provide accurate or good analysis. Their job is to create controversy, so people will watch/listen. If Joba were in the bullpen, I'm sure we'd be hearing some of the same people bitch about the risk they're taking by not moving him to the rotation.

    This is insanity.

    1. Relievers don't get paid as much. It's not even close. Mo - possibly the greatest reliever in the history of the game - made less than Andy Pettitte last year.

    2. Chamberlain is a starter. Has been a starter for his entire (short) pro career. The only exception was when they moved him to the pen in 07, and started him there in 08 to limit his innings. And he has been dominant as a starter, at every level. Of course he'll be dominant as a reliever, too. I bet Tim Lincecum would be a sick closer. So would Cole Hamels. Or Jake Peavy. Or Josh Beckett. They would tear shit up coming out of the pen. Do you even look at his performance before you say these things?

    Christ almighty.

Cappy, ftr, I've been a Bruney fan for quite a while. Personally, I think he's got a bright future ahead of him.

I didn't realize he was only 26 though. I thought he was already in his late 20s. Even better!

Any updates on A-Rod's recovery or when he is scheduled to return?

You keep misinterpreting what I am saying. I said GREAT closers (not good) are worth as much as GOOD starters (not great) and they get paid about the same. They do. Mo made 10 million per for years and that was the going rate for good starters. He now makes 15 and that is more than what good starters are getting paid. Is he making Santana money, no? But then if you look at what I said I never indicated he was.

He'll be in the rotation as soon as this failed 'Chamberlain as a starter' thing is over and he is back in the pen where he belongs. Hopefully he can keep his focus until then.

(I hope you know this is just meant to tweak you Cappy)

The Yankees have too many distractions. My prediction of an AL East title seems premature.

So where is junc? Jeter didn't have a single RBI, not A SINGLE RBI in the entire WBC. How pathetic, what a loser, horrible when the pressure is on, chokes when it counts the most..etc...etc...etc...

Him and Kennedy will both win Cy Young awards and win 20 games in a season.

No, I get that. Again, Mo -- the best in the game over the longest period, by far -- makes $15M per season. That's less than Andy Pettitte made last year. The top closer in the game didn't make as much as Pettitte. And the next best closer in the game, K-Rod, is making $12.5M per year. That's the same amount of money as Bronson frikkin' Arroyo. Barry Zito makes $18M/year. There's a reason you don't see those kinds of contracts going to closers (even the great ones).

Look at the salaries of the top ten relief pitchers in the game. By the time you get to #10, you're down to $6M/year.

Of course, the elephant still in the room is your premise that Joba will somehow only be a "good" starter on the Bronson Arroyo level, but will definitely be a "great" closer on the level of Mo, despite there being no evidence of this.

The evidence is in how he did as a setup man in '07 and that was a pretty solid sampling. Of course only time will tell if he can keep that up year in and year out. Again, I can only go by how he looked last year as a starter and I was not duly impressed. We will see how he does this year and how he lasts.

I hate the jerk, but what the hell does someone have to do to impress you then? As a starter he was 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 74 Ks in 65 IP. That's fucking impressive.

    Seriously.

Then again, that only would have had him with just the fifth-best ERA in all of baseball last year (among starters). Sabathia was fourth, and we all know Don's opinion of him. I guess you need to be in the top three and svelte in order to impress Don.

You're right about one thing, I do still worry about Sabathia's weight. I watch him walking around the mound between pitches and figure any minute now he is just going to collapse.

Neither did ARod and just his presence alone made the D.R. lose in the 1st rd:smile:

Who cares about the WBC? It's spring training, wake me up when he's struggling in the regular season or postseason when the Yanks get back. The WBC is a complete joke.

I agree...until the US gets serious about it it might as well just be treated as an exhibition.
