This proves that you know absolutely nothing about football and it's probably not even worth it to continue reading your post. Rex Ryan was the DC in Baltimore and has ZERO say in the offense that was ran there. Any speculation on exactly what type of offense is going to be run in New York is just that, speculation. First of all, calling his supporting cast "amazing" is a stretch at best, and secondly, what's your point? Does this mean that if Peyton Manning became available for cheap, the Jets shouldn't go after him because he had Harrison and Wayne all those years? Pretty stupid logic. Whatever it takes. Cutler would be a solid 10 year QB for this organization. If it takes two first round picks, so be it. The deal would fill a far greater need than those two first rounders ever could. Do you realize that QB is the single most important position on the field, and right now we don't have one? It's a pretty scary situation. Right, because why would we want a Pro Bowler that would solidify us at the QB position for the next decade?
1) The reason that Cutler had so many more attempts than Flacco was because the Broncos had an inconsistent running game and a terrible defense (and thus were frequently playing from behind.) Additionally, the Jets aren't running John Harbaugh's offense, they are running Brian Schottenheimer's. The reason that the Jets are promising a smashmouth running based offense is because they don't have a quarterback. They will adjust the system to accomodate the aerial threat that Cutler would provide. 2) The Broncos' "elite" supporting cast was only good for an 8-8 record, so take that for what it's worth. More importantly though, you point out that the Broncos didn't have great runningbacks. The Jets have two legitimate backfield threats--if they can bring Cutler in the offense will have enough balance to really punish teams in a way we haven't seen in New York for years. 3) You have to give value to get value. The Jets need a top tier quarterback. The odds of drafting a top tier QB with either of our next two first rounders (or of Brett Ratliff or Kellen Clemens magically turning into one) are negligible. Some fans really do seem afraid of success, it's a joke. The Jets have no QB, and a young Pro Bowler goes on the market by freak accident. Yet some fans would rather hold onto draft picks...to draft a young quarterback. It makes no fucking sense.
I think Ratliff looked promising during the preseason. I am really excited to see him play some more. I wish he could have gotten some regular season action so we would have a better idea of how he handles a real game against a starting defense
A couple of things get put right into the light by the Jets going out and letting Denver know they want Jay Cutler. One , they have absolutely no confidence in Kellen Clemens and two think Ratliff is a couple of years away. This is what?s confusing , because if Ryan is going to employ a run first mentality; that?s well suited for a Quarter back to not have to make tons of reads and force stuff in there. Surely with that kind of offensive game planning Kellen or Ratliff will be able to make 3-5 yard throws to pick up the firsts downs. Jay Cutler hasn?t shown anything other then being young and maybe coming into what is called a Quarter backs Prime. Maybe people are caught up in all the Cutler hype. I actually thought he made the playoffs. The one constant in the universe is your never promised any player is going to pan out (See Farve mid way last year / Then look how it ended-Typical Jets shit). Id rather spend the money on offensive players (other then quarter back) and go with what we have. There?s a lot less to loose and once again we are Laying all our money down on one big bet. Pick up a vet like Garcia or Simms and Let them pick up the offense and maybe they will be called into service if the understudies aren?t up to the task.
Why settle for a QB that you have to rely on to make 3-5 yard throws. Cutler brings that to the table...and he's a long ball threat.....which further enables our run game to be successful. If we don't end up with Cutler, it's not the end of the world....but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do what we can to bring him in. BTW...Simms signed with Denver.
If defenses don't respect your QB's ability, it is terribly difficult to be anything other than a one-dimensional offense. Cutler has a cannon for an arm, so even though a defense knows the Jets are a run-oriented team, they still have to respect the pass and cannot overload the box having a guy like him under center.
Damn, there's a lot of stuff I want to reply to tonight. Mods can merge with other thread if you want.
Thank for the Sims update! Isn?t Kellen also supposed to have a cannon for an arm, but had no time to throw back there thus leading to his happy feet and bad decision making. I?m just saying we are throwing all our chips into one basket again. Also I wont be upset if we get him, but at what cost and what price? In other word are we not checking out what we have, for a known commodity that hasn?t panned out with the team he's on? Another gamble with our franchise and our future success.
I gotha ! That was just a question in relation to a run first type of offense. Not saying thats all we would do . You run to set up the pass and both guys on the roster can fling it down feild.
I really don't understand the big deal. I'd rather have more shorter posts that I can ignore, than have to slog thru a 15 page thread
I agree. Its the offseason and its not like we have more then 3 hot topics worth discussing. Should we just have a forum of 3 really long threads? Sounds completly lame IMO. This site has a lot worse mod problems then people making new threads for similar topics.
I kind of agree with this, but there needs to be a limit. I mean, I have been on this board for going on 8 offseasons and the duplicate threads get worse every year. I'm not a fan of super-merges, because it just makes the merged threads unreadable, but until people figure out that they do not deserve a new thread for every new thought that pops into their head, something needs to be done to keep the clutter down ni the main forum.
I more or less created this thread to compile all the points made by fans that are against signing trading for Cutler.
I've seen him play plenty of times and I wont lie...Our defense had NO ANSWER for the Broncos O when we played them last year, none what so ever
If we don't have the receivers, we won't be effective throwing the ball. Rex Ryan is a defensive coordinator, but he has said many times that he wants a smash mouth running game to be the focal point of our offense. I understand that we have yet to see what kind of offense Ryan will allow Schotty to run, but I think his commitment to the run is evident that he wants to implement a similar offense to Baltimore's offense.
To be fair, our defense collapsed towards the end of the season. We couldn't stop Seneca Wallace and Shaun Hill. Also, as one of the bigger defenses in the league, the rain during the Broncos game hurt our ability to push off the ground and use our power. Thus, we couldn't clog any holes and Peyton Hills had his first 100 yard running game in his career (I think). When you have Hills getting over 5 ypc, it's a lot easier to run your offense. I don't think we touched Cutler once during the game.
