Please DO NOT make this into a trading for Cutler thread :eek:fftopic:

    So I'm KC ;
....... I wake up to the alleged reports that , NY will try and trade for Cutler should he become available......How do I feel about this ?
I've waited , very patiently for my turn and never rocked the boat , and now I'm losing what is most likely my best shot at starting ?!

As far I can see this is going to do one of 2 things , light a fire under him , or make him disillusioned , my guess is the latter.

So what now for Kellen Clemens should this happen ? And for that matter Brett Ratliffe.
The Jets top brass have apparently pulled off a 'McDaniels'.

With all due respect to one average at best Qb and a totally unproven one..who cares! Clemens is not the answer , if we don't get Cutler we must draft a qb!

Gusto...you're comparing apples and oranges here, dude. Clemens is a JAG compared to Cutler.

Who cares? We have the opportunity to bring in a 25 year old Pro Bowl caliber QB who will lead this team for many years to come.

The LAST thing we should be worrying about is hurting KC's feelings.

lol , I'm no KC fan , but I think he has earnt the right to at least fight for a starting spot , trading for a QB , he will not get that chance.
Since hes entered the league all hes heard is how hes not going to cut it as a #1......but we still haven't seen what he can do behind a good line. Also hes had a year under a HOF QB , did he pick anything up ? Be nice to find out.
But I still do think there are some double standards being used here.

you bring up a valid argument in KC's favor.

But the fact of the matter is that football is an 'unforgiving business' at times. Tannenbaum is paid to provide Rex Ryan with players that give them the best chance to win a super bowl. Cutler has proven himself to be capable of putting up probowl numbers. Unfortunetly for Clemens...he squandered his chance in the Jets' eyes.

I know he played behind a shitty line....hell, everybody on the board knows that. He certainly deserves a chance to prove himself this season. But if Tanny can improve the team by bringing in a "proven commodity" like Cutler....then he'll pull the trigger....and I support that (despite Clemens' feelings).

The chance that we land Cutler is probably very, very low and he probably understands that. He will most likely get his chance.

I doubt we'll win the Cutler 'sweepstakes' even if Denver does decide to trade him, simply because there are other teams with a lot more leverage. Clemens has been around long enough to understand the business and from interviews I've heard he sounds mature enough to deal with it. Besides, his contract is up at the end of the year and if he doesn't win the QB battle I have no doubt he'll get his chance somewhere else. I think he will end up starting for us this season and I think he'll do fine.

We didn't/aren't pulling a "McDaniels" on Clemens.

Cutler has been told for the last 3 years he was their guy. Their Franchise QB who they would build a team around.

Clemens, on the other hand, has been told to get ready to compete and show he can be a serviceable QB at best for the last 3 years.

If we had Cutler on this team and all of a sudden he the new coach deems him replaceable, I'd understand why he'd be pissed and want out of town. To be quite frankly, I'd be pretty pissed with our FO as well.

Not for nothing, but if I was slated to make almost a million bucks to stand on the sideline wearing a hat and holding a clipboard in 2009, I could give a shit less whether I ever got my chance to start.

Clemens and Ratliff both deserve a chance this season, maybe add a vet also, There are potential franchise QBs next year, if we shit the bucket at least we got a chance to get Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford as well as other QBs like Jevan Snead, and Dan LeFevour, give them a chance this year to see what they can do please, no need to give out multiple picks on an uncertain thing

Gotta say, my agreement depends on the price tag. I don't assign infinite value to Cutler. I agree he's much more of a sure thing than Clemens, but I have limits as to what I want to see the Jets give up.

Clemens lost any chance of ever being the Jet's answer to QB with how he played in 2007. It's really hard to believe that so many people around here still haven't let that sink in yet. Keep working on it, when he gets cut whether it is this year or next it will be all become clear as a bell.

If that's the case why is he still on the roster as the odds on favorite to win the starting QB job?

He is ONLY on the roster because they have nobody else at the moment. He is entering the last year of his contract and nobody, I mean NOBODY, is even whispering about giving him an extension. Right now it would cost a few hundred grand more against the cap to cut him then to keep him. They still may take that hit if it becomes a numbers game this summer

The Jets don't have the time to wait for KC. An oppurtunity like this just doesn't happen every year, so for us to blow a chance to get a Pro-Bowl QB just so that some back-up qb can play a of couple games is crazy.

My personal feeling is that Clemens won't pan out, but all of us, including the Jets will wait to see how that happens before it is official. Until they upgrade the position, it is Clemens job to lose at this point.

Why wouldn't they go after a vet like Garcia or Leftwich if they think so poorly of him as you are saying?

The truth is he will be given a shot to be the answer at QB for the Jets this year, something you claim he'll never have, unless something crazy happens and we're able to land Cutler.

I am absolutely convinced they will have another QB in camp this summer besides Clemens and Ratliff. I still think they may end up trading for Anderson. This Cutler thing came out of nowhere and they are letting it play out. Remember, all of them still wanted Favre back too.
