Clemens and Ratliff can't be happy campers this morning.

Maybe, just maybe, if you put him in Rex' system of fall-weather O, he cuts down on the INTs.

    Maybe?

In 2008, Cutler threw so many INTs because that team was one-dimensional. They went through about 5 tailbacks.

Cutler was trying to do too much...but he basically had to do too much.

There really is nobody in the draft that the Jets could get who would be more valuable than a franchise QB. There is no guarantee that either Stafford or Sanchez will ever be one or is there any guarantee that they would be there at 17 anyway.

You know this isn't the last draft, right? That there will be more after this year, provided there still is an NFL?

if Tanny pulls this trade off....he should have a street named after him.

Providing he pays a reasonable price.

That's why moving on Cutler makes perfect sense for the Jets, especially if they can bring him in for basically the same overall outlay. It's very cost-effective to bring him in, not to mention the fact that you diminish your risks substantially of acquiring an expensive, not-ready-to-start rookie bust.

I could see Tanny stretching to make this deal. With what we have on the ground now, it instantly makes the Jets a contender. About the only thing I'd add is the best WR available and some fill-in depth wherever you find the BPA.

    I want Cutler in Green!

This would also eliminate the Denver Broncos Posters up in my sons room, Cutler and Adam Morrison (NBA) are my sons diabetic role models.

But seriously he is a serious franchise building block

With what appears to be a promising DEF and an Offense that lacks that one key ingredient, bringing him in could make for a VERY interesting year.

Good defenses and reasonably good offenses win championships.

Yea, 4 or 5 years...or two years. Though, seeing as you think Cutler is clearly the best available option right now (and the next 4-5 years), who do you want to crown him as? The next Brett Favre? John Elway? He's not going to be the next Steve Young, Fran Tarkenton, or Joe Montana since he can't really move like Young and Tarkenton and his arm isn't conducive to a WCO. He has too many teeth to be Terry Bradshaw. So I guess that just leaves us with a)Favre who was just amazing in green and white and b) Elway which would mean that even when we get him we still have to wait 15 years for a Super Bowl victory.

I don't understand this trade for Cutler talk. The Jets have Kellen Clemens, and as one person said the scounts will tell you he's better than Cutler. Okay, so he had a bad season, but heck, Joe Willie or Joe Montana would have stunk behind that line. Clemens is a franchise QB. Save the pick and take the next Vernon Gholston!

HUGE news. First time the FO has left their position that they have the QB of the future on their roster. I'm all in favor of it. Cutler is a top tier QB in the league, and has gotten better every year. He'll no longer have Brandon Marshall or Eddie I am Royal, but he's a huge upgrade from what we've had, basically since Namath.

He would sure up the QB position for 10 years. Something we haven't been able to say since Chad had his little run in 2002...boy were we wrong.

Cutler has proven he can play at a high level in the NFL. What more do you want? Nobody in the draft, this year, next year or any year has proven that yet. The Jets history of drafting QBs absolutely sucks. The closest we have ever had to a franchise QB was Richard Todd or Ken O'Brien and most people on this board probably weren't alive when they played.

I don't think they ever had that position. If they had they would have NEVER traded for Favre last year..especially with 2 weeks before the season started. They saw Clemens play in '07 and they saw him play in camp most of last year. They took Favre last year and they will trade for Cutler this year if there is any way they can pull it off. That should tell everybody here everything they need to know.

I'm not saying I can't see your line of thinking, but from a BPA point of view, the 2010 draft class is likely going to to be much better talent-wise than this year's. Even if by some miracle we're picking in the 30's, we'd likely be able to grab more talent there than at 17 in this draft.

Plus, if Jason Smith to the Lions is true, the likelihood of #17 in this draft being a QB for us just went up since Stafford will drop, leading to a domino effect for QB's falling.

I'm not the biggest fan of Cutler so I'm torn on actually giving up the first rounder for him, and I'd like to see what Ratty and Clemens have. However, I do see his talent and potential behind a solid team, he could really shine. Hopefully Kris Jenkins or someone smacks him in the mouth if he ends up here and starts acting like a douche.
