OK so you agree with "oneinchpunch oip (contributor)" who has written one article (this one) on bleacherreport.com.
No, I'm not saying I agree. As I said several posts ago, I'm playing devil's advocate here. 99% of the posts in this thread have Cutler as the next great QB. I'm not so sure, and I feel like these are potential issues worth exploring. There are enough question marks for me to raise an eyebrow. If the CS wants to take a shot at him for a reasonable price, I'll get behind it, but I think people are too quick to just look at his rocket arm and high yardage totals and throw the farm at Denver for this kid. I'm VERY confused on what this kid can bring to the table. There's a lot of contradicting information out there. You hear it often enough that the kid's a punk. It only takes so long to start to believe it. I mean, I used to have the utmost respect for him having to battle diabetes and all of that, but for so long, all I hear is Cutler's a punk, and I've heard it enough to at least question it. I mean, hell, I've seen it come up in a place or two on this site about giving up a 1st and rhodes or revis for him. I wouldn't even consider Rhodes OR Revis straight up for Cutler.
His mental state is a question mark. I think a lot of things are fabricated by the media, but there are definitely some question marks. What he can do on game day is another story. I don't think it's questionable that he has what it takes to run an NFL offense at a very high level.
Lets make one thing clear. Jay Cutler on our offense teamed up with Rex Ryan's defense means nothing but trouble for the entire league. He may be able to make more of a contribution then any combination of 2 or 3 picks right now. Hes a sure thing to make an offense better, in our case, much better. With that said, This years 1st and 3rd, next years 2nd and 5th. Call it a day.
Agree with this completely. I'd rather get cutler and know we have a franchise qb then "hope" clemens or ratliff are that guy.
Haha..wow, like nobody knew that. What I want to hear and the only think that even matters is what is discussed at the meetings that start today. If they don't come away with him this week it probably won't happen. Everybody else will certainly be trying to make the deal happen this week.
The Jets have yet to make an offer and the Broncos have not officially asked for anything. Both sides seem to be waiting to see if Bowlen can resolve the Cutler and McDaniels angst, per Gary Myers. If Cutler is that angry than we might be able to sucker them out of this deal. Give them Clemens, our third rounder for this year, our first rounder for next year and it could get done. I'd be hesitant to give up this year's first rounder just because of the WR and RB talent we could pick up with our first two picks. There aren't too many QBs that I like in this draft and I would have rather waited until the next draft (2010) to target a QB. The Breylon Edwards trade was a little more interesting. The Giants offered their second and fifth round picks from the Shockey trade to the Browns, the Browns asked them to throw in Steve Smith, the Giants balked and the whole thing kind of disappeared. It would be a dumb move to give up the most consistent receiver on the team who isn't currently facing felony gun charges but the Giants have a plethora of #2 receivers (literally, it has to be killing them to have that much talent at one position and not have a decent #1 WR) so even if they don't give up Smith they could still pull a deal out by subbing in Dominic Hixon or Mario Manningham. The Browns are thin at WR with Edwards wanting out and Donte Stallworth being a horrible human being so as the draft nears the Giants could win this waiting game.
I don't think they want Clemens under any terms. That's why so many predict Cleveland would have to be part a three team deal to get it done unless we overpay in picks.
If that was the trade scenerio, I'd be the happiest kid in the world. I'd be even happier if we grabbed Gilbert in the first, and Robiskie in the 2nd in addition to giving up a third rounder this year for Cutler. HOWEVER, i have a feeling the bronco's are going to ask for more. I don't think Kellen Clemens will have that much weight in a trade Scenerio.
Too bad we don't have Bolly on the squad anymore. Him being part of the package would have helped to seal the deal.
While clemens will have no weight in any scenario, he likely will be involved and competing if not starting for someone else Several experts had him rated above cutler in the draft that year...I'd still like to see him and ratliff compete to manage the offense Cutlers attitude, contract, and interceptions will take a ransom...he's a great qb though Draft defense!
Those experts were obviously wrong. This is his 4th year in the league and nobody on the Jets has him penciled in as the starter or they wouldn't be looking at Cutler or traded for Favre last year.
Yea, it's a reach and the Clemens piece is most likely only an option in Madden. But this year's first round pick is too valuable to the Jets' needs. Even if we have to wait to draft a QB in 2010 we still have an upgrade at two key positions on the first day if we just focus on offense. We might not get an immediate upgrade at WR but it should only help to make it that much easier for the next guy, provided the Ratliff/Clemens/Ainge competition doesn't produce a clear answer...and that neither Woody nor Faneca suffer some serious drop in their production. I'm digressing but it's mostly because I can't think of a better player to throw into the trade mix. Maybe a defensive player like Thomas or Lowery but that would probably also have to include Cleveland in a three-team trade. Though, if we do manage to pull Cleveland in then we could wind up paying less although I'm not familiar with the Browns' team needs outside of "f*cking everything."
Who would we drafting with our first this year that would be a bigger upgrade than cutler? He's a franchise qb and this team is lacking just that. If we get cutler this years first will be part of the deal, and it's worth it.
Ok, he's a pro-bowler, he threw for 4500 yards, and he's still young. I'm not saying that I don't want him but just to play devil's advocate: he clearly takes the business side of the NFL personally and does anyone else remember what happened the last time we traded for a gunslinger? Cutler isn't a sure-fired success in New York, nor is he guaranteed like it here in New York(Jersey). There's no guarantee that he is going to be better than anyone coming out in the next two years, either. At this point, he is just more established. If we managed to pick up one of the top RB prospects (McCoy, Moreno, or Greene) and a top WR prospect (Maclin, Britt, DHB, Harvin, or Hakeem "Gump"[a fucking 11 on his wonderlic?])then that makes the job a lot easier for whoever is next in line to make us forget about Joe Namath.
