Anyone? ANYONE???? . . . . . . . . . ANSWER: Rex Ryan Coach was personally on hand for Gilbert's Pro Day and ran the workout according to my friend Oh Yeah, and he said Gilbert looked Great And Just for the record, for those who don't know, the HC does not show up at all of these pro days, he hardly has the time to be flying all over the country attending pro days, that's why we pay scouts .. so I think its safe to assume coach only shows up for the ones he deems important enough to be there
I don't know, E, but I think its safe to assume they were well represented I know what you're thinking and I share your concern
with Nicks' supposed drop due to his Pro Day performance.....I wouldn't mind targeting Gilbert with our first rounder. If Nicks drops to us in the 2nd....I'd cream myself.
I'm sort of new to this whole offseason workout thing. Are they always run by a specific coach? How is this determined?
I would strongly believe that the Jets will trade to wherever to get this kid. If he's there at 23, they trade back. Or even take him at 17. If he somehow is at the 34th pick, they trade up to get him. Its how Tanny's been drafting since he's been running thie show. And my guess for who ran the pro day was going to be Kerry Locklin, but for Rex to do it himself is huge.
Jabba, you should put the name "Jarron Gilbert" on that little flag you're holding in your avatar. At the very least, you should change the 10 on your jersey to whatever Jarron's number is. I can't imagine how happy you're going to be if we draft this guy.
If they think he's the guy, they should just take him at 17. You don't want to get cute and trade down and lose your guy. I remember reading that we may have drafted Chris Gocong in the third round in 2006. But we traded down 5 spots with the Eagles and they took him. We got Anthony Schlegel. Ouch.
I would not mind somthing like this depending on the players available. I would love to land a versatile talent like Kraig Urbik for OL depth, but he's peorbly going in the third.
Well that's all a matter of opinion, tom .. some people will tell you Jackson is better, but I'm not one of them .. IMO Jarron Gilbert is significantly better than Tyson Jackson BTW, here are a few video's so you can get a better idea of who he is .... http://draftguys.com/index.php/articles/dgtv_1/jarron_gilbert_video/ =============== Senior Season Junior Season
For us, Yes. Tyson Jackson is a plug in guy, more of a run stopper. Not a guy who will get pressure on the QB. Gilbert can do both. He has a skill set that can make him scary. Think of Gilbert as Richard Seymour and Jackson as Ty Warren. You can find a replacement for Warren before Seymour.
For me now at this point in time, I believe that as long as he's on the board, Jarron Gilbert's going to be our pick at #17. From a positional standpoint, true quality 3-4 DE's are so rare that when you have the chance to pounce on someone like Gilbert who could be elite, you need to pounce. Also, although Ellis and Coleman are at least decent starters, it never hurts to have more line depth and Gilbert undoubtedly has the potential to be better than both of them. If we do go with Gilbert though, I expect at least the next 3 picks to be offense. Robiskie/Nicks/McCoy in the second, Greene/Bomar/WR in the third (depending on who was picked in the second), and OL depth in the fourth.
yes, yes I believe you are! in all seriousness, that is my dream first two rounds. Gilbert is perfect for us, plus Jabba has seen and shown that the jets are all over this guy. Robiskie, just screams Football player to me, a guy who will get stuff down. He is tall 6'3, plus 4.4 speed. plus he is a very capable WR with solid hands.
Great news Jabba!! this is exactly the type of news I love to hear. He is the perfect player for us, and he just happens to be coming along at the right time. I am now officially on the get Jarron Gilbert no matter what it takes(trade up past SD, trade back to 22 whatever), time to create the final foundation of exactly what we need to have a truly dominant defense for the next 3-5 years.
OK Jabba I'm going to say this out of curiousity. You've been high on Gilbert for awhile and I respect your opinion but what makes Gilbert different from Gholston? Seems like he's a physical specimen with an excellent highlight reel but he'd be changing positions and one thing we couldn't question about Gholston is the level of his competition.
