Revis is a steep price to pay for Cutler, IMO...... don't get me wrong, I want Cutler like half the board does.....but I don't think coughing Revis up is in our best interests. I would say Revis/Jenkins would be untouchable.
bro, you too? Say it aint so. Look, I know this trade isnt happening. But I cannot let this go. How in the world are some of you guys actually saying that you wouldnt give up a pro bowl corner for a pro bowl QB???? It just doesnt make any sense. No GM in football, ever, would trade a pro bowl QB for a pro bowl Corner. Its just completely non sensical. Do you realize how much easier it is to find a pro bowl cb than it is to find a pro bowl QB? Do you realize how much more important the QB is than a CB???? Its complete lunacy
don't get me wrong, mang. I know it takes value to get value. But i get the impression that Rex wants to build the defense around guys like big Jenks and Revis. Trading for Cutler would solidify our QB position for years to come...but then our defense suffers by trading away one of our cornerstones. We would be no better off than the current Denver Broncos.....great QB....but we would need to score 35 points every week to make up for our lack of defense. There are other ways to get this trade done without having to sacrifice Revis, IMO.
well....there is one caveat to jonnyd's arguement. Revis could be included in the deal....but our 1st rounder MUST NOT be included.....a 3rd rounder perhaps.... If we traded Revis, a 3rd rounder, and perhaps a 4th rounder next year (based on playing time)....that would work. Then we could use our first rounder on a CB this year...and pair him up with Sheppard. The only concern with this scenario is that currently, we have a lack of depth at the CB position......this could be remedied by signing a healthy Chris McAlister. There are options, JJ.....so jonnyd certainly isn't out in "left field" as some might think regarding Revis being expendable. I would prefer NOT to trade Revis....but that's my personal feeling on that. Having a franchise QB in the fold for the next 10 years might be worth it though.
There totally are options, but there are other players I'd rather use as trade bait. Why trade away one of the few shining stars. Hell...send every QB we have AND TJ, and I'd be fine. Kerry Rhodes.....VG....Harris even. NOt Revis though.
yeah..i feel the same way. To me, Revis is untouchable. But, having a gifted franchise QB would be something this franchise would benefit from, for years to come. It's a tough call.
guys guys, options are great. And if we could land Cutler without getting rid of Revis it would be fantastic. But lets not change the argument. Especially you, JJ. You clearly said that you wouldnt trade Revis straight up for Cutler. That my friend, is retarded. Period.
I wouldn't trade up Revis for Cutler. They're both great players, so far. A shutdown corner is not something you find all the time. I see you're point, and that's great, but at the same time, I don't think giving up something that's going to create a gaping hole in an already suspect pass D, is going to solve any problems. You get a great QB, but again, we'll be chasing points. There're better ways to get Cutler.
he's right jonnyd.....you don't trade Revis straight-up....unless you have excellent depth at the CB position. And we don't. Revis for Cutler would turn our pass defense into swiss cheese. Opposing offenses would take Lito out of the equation and rape the other side of the field all day on us. Forcing Cutler and our offense to put up 35 points a game to keep up...like he did in Denver. When the Skins traded away Champ Bailey for Portis a few years back....i thought they were nuts at the time. But I realized they had great depth with Fred Smoot and Shawn Springs. They could afford to part with Bailey....the Jets don't have that luxury. EDIT: But make no mistake, jonny....getting a franchise QB for the Jets should be TOP priority....and we may have to give up serious value to make that happen. I'm all for it.....just not for Revis...or even Jenkins.
Oh I definitely want Cutler and I'd give up TJ, #17, next year's first and a conditional. Lumped. And yeah we need to leave Jenkins alone as well. That guy proved he's worth his weight in gold. There're just so many options that it wouldn't be worth giving up a cornerstone
in addition to your comment....Rex is a "defensive-minded" coach, so you know he holds defensive talent in high regard. I'm convinced he would be hard-pressed to part with a bonafide premier shut-down corner without having significant depth to supercede the hole on the roster....just my .02.
Totally agreed. In fact I believe in his opening speech after taking the job he specifically mentioned Revis as one of the best in the league. I definitely don't see it happening. Denver needs major work on their D, but I don't see them trading Cutler for anything other than a QB or picks that allow them to pick up a QB.
well...he's certainly the spine of this defense...as Jenkins goes, so does this defense. If the Jets included him in a deal for Cutler...I think i'd have a seizure.
:lol::lol::lol: seriously though i think if you are the broncos, you need defensive help more than anything. that makes me think that we wont get the deal done without one of our better defensive players. i say harris is the guy. try for VG first (but you know they wont bite) and then give them harris. as much as i like him, hes the most expendable out of the defensive stars we have. oh and i dont think VG is a star by any means im just sayin we all would have no problem shippin him off for a franchise QB
this deal...or ANY deal for that matter...will not get done unless there's a QB included, going to Denver. Either a prospect or a starter. Which is why involving the Browns is integral. Unless the Broncos feel they can pluck Stafford or Sanchez with the #14 pick. I can't see McDaniels settling on C.Simms as the starter going into the season....the fans will set Mile High Stadium "ablaze" if that's the direction they end up going in.
110% agree. Wow, I would trade any single player on the jets roster straight up for cutler without even batting an eyelash. Seriously, it shouldn't take 5 seconds to make that call. The QB is by FAR the most important position on the field. The opportunity to trade *for* a 25 year old pro bowl QB comes around...well, amost NEVER. If I were the broncos however, I would be looking to offload Cutler (and possibly a draft pick) to the Panthers for Peppers and Delhomme. If for nothing more than to save us all from the "Breaking news story: NE acquires Peppers!" That day is quickly approaching...
Man, I love Revis as much as the next guy but if all it would take was Revis to get Cutler I would personally drive him to the airport.
