Clemens will be cut after this year if they trade for any other QB out there. He probably will be anyway. This is the last year of his rookie contract and I can't see him getting re-signed.
I'm a big Ratliff fan also. He really looked good at TC last year, but Clemens was always in front of him because I think a guy like Mangini will always give the more senior man the priority, hence is was always Chad, then Clemens, then Ratty. That could all change now. If Cutler comes here I could easily see Clemens and Ratty fighting it out in a fair fight for the #2, with Ratliff edging him out and Clemens being released.
What is an over bid? There are what 4 to 8 top QB's in a 32 team league? Early draft picks cost a fortune and sometimes are complete busts but usually take 2 to 3 years to get max value and than their in contract years. What is over paying for a proven franchise QB? The Giants obviously over paid for Manning when compared to what they gave up and what SD got including Rivers yet the Giants still built a SB team before SD has. Did they really give up value? More important than what we give up is what we have to pay Cutler as a percent of our cap going forward. At the right price draft picks can be augmented through FA. I think what you give up in future picks is much less important than how much you pay the talent that can carry your team to a SB and what it leaves to sign enough quality around them to do the job.
Myabe I'm just crabby today, but I don't see the Jets getting Cutler. With TJ missing the first two WOs, he could have just made himself trade bait, along with a couple of picks. I just don't see it happening.
I really wonder how they pull it off too. They are down to about 6.7 million in free cap space after the rookie pool is accounted for.
Likewise...But, you would love to have him for a #17 overall and a 2nd next year? (Or something similar)
Yeah I think that would be a fair deal. If you think about it, as it stands now, there aren't many needs on this team, and most of them are on O. You give up the 17, next year's 2, and perhaps even TJ, you filled the biggest need on O for a long time (hopefully) and now you really just need a RB. The receivers we have may or may not get it done, as well as Keller, but they've all shown signs from time to time. So in the bigger pic, to me, it would be worth it. I'm just not sure Denver would agree.
Sure, if they were to keep Mike Shanahan's running scheme... Me thinks Josh McD is going to abolish the zone-blocking that has been so great for so long.
They have a stable of backs, none of which are any good. RBBC hasn't worked well for them the past few years.
I don't think they would want to give up a lot and not sign him to a new deal. I don't think anybody would. They could take that chance because he has 3 years left though.
I don't see Denver settling for our #17 and next year's 2nd Rounder. I just don't see that happening. Hope I'm wrong. That would have to be a no-brainer for Tanny.
Well, Jones costs us 3 million against this year's cap if we cut or trade him so I can't see either happening anyway.
They've had a pretty solid running game for the past few years, but this is going to be a totally different O now. I won't go out and say that JMD won't want a cannon arm QB but it's not going to be used as much as in the past. In fact, it's going to be so different, it's going to be almost surreal.
I'm with ya. I just wanted to know if you would want Cutler at a very high price. I agree that the team isn't in THAT bad of shape...Our defense looks good, especially with the new coaching...The receivers need a big upgrade, but of course the most important position on the field is the Jets weakness. I want Cutler, would give up more than a nice amount...But I just don't see it happening as you said.
Kidding? Of course not. They cost them nothing they are younger and Jones, at the height of his career, was never anywhere as fast as either of them. Every back on that team got hurt last year. Shit happens but it doesn't change a thing.
Whatever happened to production on the field? It seems like more and more people on here are enamored by 40 times, and big arms than they are with victories and on field success. Just an FYI, these are not Elway's Broncos. NOT EVEN CLOSE. They aren't even a shadow of that. Some people still think Denver is one of the better franchises in the league still. Well they are quickly losing their luster the more years that they don't make the playoffs. It's now 3 and counting. Why so enamored with players from a team who have went 8-8 and 7-9 the last 2 seasons??? They may be faster and younger than Jones but Jones is the much better running back. He is coming off a pro bowl year where he lead the AFC in rushing. Both Young and Torain couldn't even stay on the field last year. They were banged up all year and Shanny didn't even have Young in his rotation at season's end. Torain didn't even play for more than half the season after a lot of preseason hype. He was a total bust. But I guess Jones' Pro Bowl season, durability and league lead in TD's and rushing don't compare to the speed and age of the oft injured duo of Young and Torain. How many yds did the two rush for combined? Let's see...Selvin Young...300+ yds rushing last year. Torain....a whopping 69 yards on the ground last year. What are some of you people watching???
