Suck ass cheek.:rofl2: Why entertain bringing in a QB from another team, or drafting one, when we have a line that is probably the best at run blocking, however semi-decent in pass protection (that right tackle position needs to be upgraded). Coles was a cancer. Definitely needed to bounce. Cotchery is solid, but there are no other receivers that have proven to be consistent, and productive. We have Keller, except he is a tight end. Stuckey is Ok, Clowney is Untested, Smith is Ok. When the ball isn't dropped by them, they usually are able to make a 5-yard slant into 10-15 yards maximum. What we need is a receiver that can get in and out of his cuts and breaks, and attack the football. None of this whack, "possession" type shit. If anyone would like to argue that our receivers do NOT rank in the bottom five of the 32 teams of the league, I would entertain your opinions. The fact is that without Coles, or a true #1 wideout, expect many blitz packages, which will prove to get the best of Clemens or Ratliff. No receivers + Blitzing = One dimensional football. Because if you cant throw then you run. I hope we address this need in FA, because I dont want to draft a WR with the first pick. So all the "unnecessary" Cutler threads (in the words of some on this forum), are necessary when we don't have the tools to complement the talent. Any QB, whether it be our own or someone else's, need targets to throw the ball too. Brett Favre chose to throw it to the other team. He's a jackass. Our most pressing need going into the draft is offensive talent, whether it be WR, RB, or OT
I agree. At the risk of arousing all the Clemens haters, probably the worst game I saw him play in was the final game of the 2007 season against Herm and the KC Chiefs in December. He had replaced Chad, if you all remember, and it got so bad with Clemens that the crowd was now chanting "C-H-A-D, CHAD, CHAD, CHAD" because they wanted him back in. Without an O-line to protect the blitz, he looked absolutely horrible, any QB would, but he looked really bad. Of course, with Chad, it had been almost as bad, because neither one of them had protection and Herm knew he could send packages and disrupt big time. But yeah, Clemens is going to need at least one very good WR, if for no other reason than to fill in for Coles' spot. And the O-line is much better, IMO, so he'll have to learn to work with the blitzes and make them pay for it. I think we go for a WR, maybe not with the first pick, but I think we go for one on Day One. The draft is fairly plentiful with Wideouts, so maybe we'll pick one up that can start. We certainly are going to need one, otherwise our "run first" offense won't do diddly as other DEFs start to crowd the box.
How about we just stick to the 10 Cutler threads we already have in place and not create an 11th thread....and on top of that, create a 12th thread stating unnecessary Cutler threads are necessary...? Tool mate...
word. everything is redundant until we actually have something to talk about. like the Draft.... which is in 38 days, 43 minutes.
In my opinion Chansi Stuckey is completely underrated. For starters he only got the ball 32 times last season, of those 32 receptions he got a first down 22 times (14th in the AFC). He only had 3 touchdowns but for the amount he was thrown to that is pretty good. On third down he was thrown to 10 times for 9 first downs, averaging 16.2 yards. Forth down? No problem for him when he gets the ball, which was one time for 22 yards and a first down. Also he has never fumbled the ball in college or the nfl. Anyone else remember week 17, 4th quarter like 8 minutes left, 2&22 and Stuckey got the first. He got the ball 4 times that game for 50 yards. We didn't get to see him much with the emergence of Keller as a receiving TE, hopefully Rex and the fans see they may have had a potential play maker sitting on the bench most the time last season.
We won't ever know what we have in receivers until we have a quarterback that can throw the ball 40 yards down field ACCURATELY...we don't have that now. At least not that anybody has seen.
Wow...I took a quote right out of the first post and commented on it and it becomes off topic? If so, this whole thread becomes off topic... WTF are you involving your mother into this?
Jets need a number 1 WR. But I wouldnt say the guys they have suck. There just not number 1's. I think Stuckey could be a pretty solid number 3 WR and I think Clowney could be a good deep threat and I like Cotchery as the number 2. Keller is a tight end but so what. He is a receiving threat and demands attention. He is a TE who will create matchup problems because of his speed for a Tight End. They need to look into getting a number 1 WR but guess what. The Jets havent had a true number 1 WR in a while now (it least since Santana Moss in 03). They have had guys like Coles and Cotchery who are very good number 2's and guys like Santana Moss who have had great years for them and emerged as the number 1 WR but they havent had a consistant guy who year in and year out performs as a number 1 WR probably since Keyshawn was traded. They need to find one. Some guys I would look at in the draft would be Maclin, Nicks, Britt, and even Robiskie.
Good post. IMO, Keller was somewhat "overused" early on by Mangini, to the exclusion of guys like Stuckey. Mangini had Schottenheimer trying to include Keller on damn near every play. Either that or Favre was so sold on Keller that he targeted him often. The result was, his early success had everybody keying on Keller toward the end of the season and trying to shut him down (I guess that's what you'd want though, right?), but Stuckey was on the bench. At any rate, Keller's effectiveness tapered down at the end of the season and some of the passes that did go his way were dropped. I'm looking forward to this year though, big time. I think Keller only improves and I think Stuckey could really have a breakout year. Possibly Clowney as well. Bring in a good rookie wideout from the draft and let him learn a little behind Stuckey, Cotch and Clowney.
If you think about it, for a while the Ravens had a solid running game and receiving TE (Heap) that their Offense was built on. They haven't really had any standout WRs. Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if Ryan waits till next year to go after a WR; however, if we're sticking with one of the young QBs, I'd like for them to have as many weapons as possible.
I fully expect Kenny Britt to fulfill that need. Hes a local kid who will make Rutgers proud. He could be compared to Calvin Johnson if any of you have seen him play. He wasnt because he went to Rutgers.
So we have one group saying why bring in a WR with no one to throw to then. Then another says, why bring in a QB with no one to catch the ball. Sounds perfect. Why bring in any talent to offense if we don't have the other part that goes with it, right? Or, we could just start adding peices that are available. Be it a QB, or WR, OL, even a RB. Get the talent you can when you can. There will always be a use for it.
I'll say this: Schotty said, in reference to our young QBs, sometimes you gotta let 'em play. I think the same is true of WRs, and I think our plan is to do just that. All our young players have shown glimpses, its time to see if they can make a step up. I could detail what glimpses each have shown, but I'll wait to see if that blowhard, you know who you are, forces me into it first.
Our 1st, 3rd, 4th, Thomas Jones and Leon 4 Cutler; then we use our other 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th to move up to the second round and draft a punter.
