That's BS. There is no rule in the NFL, for the Jets or applied to GMs that says that they must treat everyone the same way. Treating everyone fairly isn't the same as treating everyone equally, especially when the situations are vastly different.

yeah let pay a player (coles) who didn't do anything for us the 2nd go around and not pay a player who done a lot for us (Jones). That makes sense to me

Give him a little more money for this season, not a big deal. RB's are of course replaceable, but that's no reason to waste a draft pick this year if you don't have to.

You realize your response has nothing to do with the point of my post, right?

The BS is in thinking every other member of the team won't want the same thing. Open your eyes.

You blamed this on Tanny for what the Jets did for Coles. My point was that just because the GM did it for one person doesn't mean that he'll do the same thing for everyone. Sure they will use it as an argument. I just don't think it is a valid one.

    lmao.

that was a classic line. but its true.

I played runningback, it is the most demanding, dangerous, position on the field, and it has the shortest lifespan in terms of a career.

Think about it. Your running between or outside of 300lb+ men, and there are 250lb men running at you, most of them are gym rats or on steroids so their bodies are stronger and faster than the players 10-15 years ago. The runningback position is one of the few positions that remains unchanged.

When you have Warren Sapp-like linebackers, and Ray Lewis-type Safeties, your body is screaming at you to retire.

Fuck that. Take the money and dip.

    I like Moreno at #17.

Why dont you just guarantee a little more money for this year give him like a few million extra and then just let the other bonuses and stuff play out. I really dont see whats wrong with giving him more money for this one year

I understand that but they don't. I am sure Jones thinks he has done at least as much for the Jets recently as Coles had so he now thinks he can bitch and get a new deal just like Coles did. If they had an ironclad rule that nobody got a new deal in the middle then he wouldn't even try. Apparently that's what Ryan did in Baltimore although I'm not sure how as he wasn't the head coach. Didn't Baker have a new deal too and want another one?

I would like that as well. IMO if you consider TJ's age this coming year may very well be his last productive season. With that being said I dont want the Jets to sign him to some big extension.

The only problem I see with Moreno at 17 is Tanny. He is a Bill P. guy. And I always remember the Tuna's golden rule was never draft a RB in the first round. Now a days 1,000 yd or so backs are a dime a dozen. If you have a good o-line (which we do) I think there are plenty of guys who can get you a thousand. Shit....look what Shanahan (sp?) did all those years in Denver.

I mean...Deshaun Foster is a FA, last year he didnt get many carries playing behind Gore but look at the three years before that in Carolina.

    876 - 3.5 AVG
    897 - 4.0 AVG
    879 - 4.3 AVG

And before you jump down my fucking throat I'm not suggesting we let TJ go and get Foster. TJ is clearly a better option. Im only making a point.

Agree 100%. TJ may have another year or even two left in the tank, but he got his "Chaa Ching" the first two years of his contract. RB's wear out at this age, and it is way better to draft someone young with fresh legs then to mortage the future over one strong year. Besides.. I hate his damn agent!

tell him to deal with "only" making 900 grand this year...if he holds out in TC he'll be fined 15 grand a day

he has a big cap number for 2010 anyway he'll likely be cut before then

Why are you attacking Jones, if it was the other way around they would just cut him as soon as possible even with a "contract".

    Trade Jones on draft day

Ideally, I'd trade into the later part of the 1st round and draft Shady or Moreno. Leon and one of those two could form a nasty combo.

Jones has gotten his money from the Jets up front. Maybe Tanny in managing the cap well has failed to take into account human nature? Jones clearly has no insentive to perform for us anymore.

Totally. TJ is a decent back, but I think he'd be more valuable as trade bait.
