Good stuff, I agree with everything...Leon can do it all. It was a joke that Mangini gave him like 4 offensive touches a game. He'll definitely be my next jersey after (hopefully) he gets a contract extension soon.
My biggest complaint re:Leon, was the CS not looking at what Philly does with Westbrook. As a former programmer, you learn to not reinvent the wheel....
A lot of people on here have. I thought the author did a good job of putting a lot of points we've all made together in an article. This was probably written as a reaction to the Thomas Jones contract news. I wonder if we don't cut bait with him for whatever pick we can get and pick up someone in the first few rounds to take 15 carries a game.
The thing is that Thomas Jones is really good too. Leon brings different talents to the table. I think both guys should be involved as much as possible - realistically, they are probably our first and second best offensive players at this point (not counting the o-line). If anything, I'd like to see both guys on the field at the same time more.
Leon is without debate, the best football player on the team.... A smart CS would begin telling Jones how much they value him, and want to preserve his career post 30, and start changing the offensive touches ratio in favor of Washington.
Are you kidding me?? Is the author really using Westbrook as a benchmark for durability? From CBS Sports: Knee problems are pretty much synonymous with Westbrook at this point in his career as the man has never played a 16-game season.
If TJ keeps being a douche, maybe Jets should release him, and draft a young, power back. With Leon as the feature back, the young rookie will have a good time only having to grind out in a certain situation.
There's no doubt that Leon should be a bigger feature of this offense. Anyone watching this team the past couple of years who doesn't agree needs a head check. Even if he's not our "every down" back or however you want to put it, the ball should be in his hands anywhere from 10 to 20 times a game, period. The guy is just too incredible of a playmaker not to give him his fair share of shots. Whether it's catching a pass out of the backfield or taking a handoff, they just need to get Leon into the gameplan in a much more significant way. Every fan has seen this clearly for some time now, let's just hope that with a new crew on board that the coaching staff will finally catch on as well.
i been on this bandwaggon since we drafted him had link to a thread i posted right after the draft and i was mentioning him as a 2nd/3rd rd pick going into the draft was shocked to see him fall to us in the 4th. point in case he needs to be getting the ball ALOT more, always should have. from day 1.
How is TJ being a "douche"? He isn't even going to make 1mil next season and he just had an amazing season. Top rusher in the AFC. I agree he is old and his better days are probably behind him, but from a business/personal stand point, I don't blame TJ for wanting a little bit more for his efforts.
His contract was front-loaded. He averaged $6 million a year the past two years. This is just the down year in how the contract was structured.
So when you sign a front-loaded constract, you sign that contract, with every intention to bitch about it when you happen to perform at the top level with "down" year ahead, eh? What a professionalism. I wouldn't sign anyone of that mentality.
Leon needs more carries, he's my favorite player, and I think he could be a feature back. However, I don't want to see him getting 30 carries a game. Give him 15, instead of like 5 that he's getting now. Split it even with TJ, or atleast 40/60. Remember we still need his fresh legs for kick returns where he is the biggest threat.
