I know a lot of people in this forum like Hakeem Nicks, but don't shoot the messenger fellas, I'm just telling you what I heard from someone who was there Reportedly Nicks was fat/overweight (226), looked bad in agility drills and reinjured his hammy
Yeah, I meant combine - that's crazy. Do you know if any Jets personnel attended his workout? (With this apparent Cleveland/Denver/New York three-way trade in the making, Nicks will no longer be a possibility if the Jets get Cutler)
I did it in three weeks too, but that was when I quit smoking and was inhaling junk food like oxygen
Apparently Nicks disputed the 226 and claimed he added 10 pounds (222) since the combines and not 14 Either way, its between 10-14 and it showed .. apparently he looked overweight and looked bad in drills, then stopped in the middle of pass catching drills and said he re-tweaked his hammy
I think back to last year when a number of wideouts folks were projecting higher wound up sliding into RD 2, and I believe Pittsburgh drafted Limas Sweed in the 50's?, so I wouldn't discount the possibility of Nicks being there for the Jets in RD 2
Yeah I was just about to write the same thing. Outside of Crabtree+Maclin, there are no studly WRs worth a 1st to me. I would not be surprised at all if Nicks and Britt were both available at our 2nd. I originally had 1) Nicks and 2) Gilbert, but now it looks like their draft places have flipped
I had penciled in Nicks for the Jets first round pick. Now that looks like it's in jeopardy. Too bad, I was sure Nicks would be a stud WR as a rookie. But maybe he's just not that committed.
I think in the second round WR, Brian Robiskie is going to be a good player. His Dad is the WR coach of Atlanta so Brian has been taught to be a pro since he was a kid. And he had a solid Combine which showed his good athleticism. I think he'll be able to contribute right away.
Wow, I'm a bit shocked. The guy always seemed like a hard worker. I may need to rethink my stance on him a bit if he really gained 14 lbs. I don't usually put much stock into pro days and such, but issues like this have to be taken into consideration.
I'm a big Nicks fan b ut this is somewhat disturbing news. Its a work ethic thing. if your not smart / hard working enough to be in game shape for a job interview that can make or lose you millions of dollars then you have to wonder about commitent to the game. This was a bad move by this young man. Possible first rounders end up in the late second because of crap like this and cost themselves a whole truckload of money in the process.
Agreed. However, with Jarron Gilbert rising up the boards, this could work out well for us in the end if this was just a slip up by the kid and he ends up at our second. He better do well on his interviews, or this could be a major mistake by him. He probably already knocked himself out of the first with this. Figures, just when I was finally starting to get a solid view of what I wanted in the draft, this happens.
