Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut HT: 5' 10"+ WT: 210 2008 ==== GP: 13 YDS: 2,083 YPC: 5.7 TD's: 18 Could be a RB we consider in RD 2 if he's still on the board and we don't take one in RD 1
I can see a 2nd round trade up again for this kid. I don't think he lasts to 52. He'd be a great rookie to replace TJ when its time.
I mentioned this in another thread, I got to watch him all year this year (I'm a UCONN season ticket holder) and he is going to be a really good NFL RB. He hits the hole well, and is always moving forward. He has good speed and great vision. I'm really hoping we land him in the 2nd.
From what I hear he's smart as a whip as well I like him and the guy from pitt for possible 2nd round picks
With TJ being a whiney punk and holding out of workouts, I could see the Jets going RB with an early pick. But I'd rather see us go WR and DL / NT with our first two choices. Maybe Andre Brown from NC State in round 3 ?
McCoy is a little small and we already have Leon Washington. I think we'd be better off getting a bigger back who will handle the load once Thomas Jones moves on.
I don't think Donald Brown lasts until the second round. I like Hakeem Nicks, I really do. But if we're not going defense in round 1, I want a running back. I really want Chris Wells, but I think the team that reaches for Donald Brown will not be disappointed.
Nose tackle, really? We just signed a back-up for Jenkins. I'd like to see us draft a young NT too, but not on day one.
A team can never have too many good DL and in the 3-4, NT is the crucial position. I'd like to have several bodies that could rotate in during games and during the season to give Jenkins some rest. NT is the key to making the whole defense work.
McCoy lost a lot of weight before the combine because he was battling the flu. He usually plays between 205 and 210. He's a feature back. McCoy should have no problem carrying a team... Shady certainly won't be the powerful compliment to Washington's slash-back style, but he's one of the most talented backs in college football.
You know how they say a running game begins to pay off in the fourth when everyone is tired? Well, are they suggesting the D is tired because they've been pounded by the RB or the OL? Because I like Brown a LOT, but I jsut wonder if we wouldn't be better off, as another poster said, pairing Leon with a bigger back (Caulcrick, Jorvoskie Lane, Beanie Wells, etc.)
IMO, behind Curry brown maybe the safest pick in this draft. He's extremely smart, a hard worker..and w/ his vision...he'll at the very least be a solid workhorse. The upside can certainly be debated..but barring injuries...he WILL be successful in the NFL in some capacity.
