These morons in the Athletic Department have had a serious problem scheduling for the 2009 season. Currently we have 11 games with 1 AA opponent. We need 12, obviously. Last year refusals for the 9/12 date: Penn State refused. Georgia Tech refused. Recent refusals TCU refused. Colorado refused. Utah refused. (this is a rumor.) Gardner Webb, a 1-AA school, refused at the last minute. I can't find the article, but look at the outrage in the comments section when it was announced. http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20090311/SPORTS030103/903110349/1109 No one wants to play us, it's ridiculous. The problem here lays in the fact that having 2 AA teams scheduled means you have to win 7 to be bowl eligible, in other words, Ole Miss would need 9 wins off the bat to guarantee another cotton bowl trip. Furthermore, in the unlikely event OM runs the table and wins the SEC, there's a greater chance they don't play for the BCS title game. BLAH
It's much worse at Fresno State - no Big Six teams want to play the Bulldogs. Boise State always has the most pussy schedule in all of college football in my opinion - that's why they've run the table twice in the last 3 years.
I would love to play Fresno. The thing is 9/12 is an open date for us and we want it to be a home game because it was originally scheduled as one before we had to change the schedule around to allow for a thursday night espn broadcoast of the SC game. No one wants to come to Oxford first.
Fresno @ Ole Miss is a possibility - the Dogs put Rutgers on the schedule very late last year. In 2006, the LSU added the Dogs after a non-conference opponent left them hanging...
Fresno would be the only west coast team willing to make the trip that would give us a run for our money. Do they have a 9/12 open date? edit - nope, theyre going to wisconsin. damn.
9-12-09 at Wisconsin 9-26-09 at Cincinnati 11-21-09 at Illinois This is this Dogs non-conference schedule - RIGHT NOW, we have UC Davis as our first game...that game will probably stick, unless the Dogs can pick up a Big Six opponent on 9-5. Flying to Ole Miss would probably be unlikely this year anyway - we have to play at Hawaii...which is basically a cross country flight. $$$
I doubt Utah refused.... they'll play anybody anytime anyplace. They went to Michigan last year before Michigan stunk. They're also scheduled to play at Notre Dame in a few years. I'd love to see Fresno and Utah play of course I'd love to see Fresno in the MWC (of course thanks to that pussy Mormon school that may never happen)
