Exactly. And it's already been reported the Leon will get more touches on offense. Clemens and Ratliff both will be more than capable enough to get the ball to everyone currently on the roster. The only thing missing (presuming Clowney does not fill the role), is a true number one wideout. TJ and Leon are the best one two punch in the division. Keller is going to be better than last year, Cotchery is an excellent two, and Stuckey is a very good slot guy.
Alright, so we lost Coles and Favre. The problem is, Coles was our #1 (#2 by most standards) and now you guys think the other guys will be a step up from that? Favre had a ton of ints. We need a QB now as much as we needed one last year, as far as the future is concerned. Win 3-0? You honestly believe that? You need to share wtf you're smoking, because sir, you are higher than I've ever been able to achieve. So in summary I'm asking; a big question mark at wideout and QB is better than what we had last year? You guys have a ton of maybes floating around out there, which is fine, but chest pounding yourself with these posts that are laden with maybes, doesn't merely defy logic, it stomps the shit out of it.
Our great O-line and run game. Keller and Cotchery will get us down the field, TJ and Leon will put it in the end zone. Sounds good to me.
How many of TJ's yards were because of the fear of Farve?? What's to keep teams from stacking the box and shutting down the running game? I have a feeling teams will dare Clemens or Ratliff to beat them..
What we lack is the passing game, not the running game since we have all the OL and RB back from last year. By looking at the team you'll see that there are many players (Clemens, Ratliff, Clowney, Stuckey, etc) who have been in the system for a while but haven't been given the chance to show what they can do. I think in the FO minds this is the year you give these players a chance and see what they can do. After all our running game is good, our defense is good, our ST should be good... can't we take a little risk on the passing game? I think if we draft a WR (Nicks please ), at least one between Clemens or Ratliff turn out to be decent (not good, decent will do) and get a decent power RB in the later rounds (Jennings? Greene?) we are set to have a pretty good year on offense as well... Otherwise Ryan will have one year of experience and will have a better idea of what to adjust.
Don't you think the Ravens had the same concerns last offseason? Inexperienced QB. Thin at WR. Good running game w/ good Oline. And they ended up one quarter from the SB. Relax. Rex has the blueprint. Give it a chance to play out.
I think your last comment will be the biggest factor in our future success. Even if we dont have the best players, the coach and his staff will determine how far we go. And I have to agree with most of JWWS's post on the status of our offense. We do have some ? marks, but these guys have all been here at least a full season and while expect a few glitches to start with, I think by mid-season things will be rolling.
ever notice how the guys who have never played are always so great. there is a reason they werent playing last year. they were not as good as the guys who were playing. baker was a little bit more than a backup tight end. who exactly replaces coles or well no you said its good he is gone so who steps in and demands double teams out of our current roster? seriously tell me who. not who you WANT to be good but who has actually proved ANYTHING let alone that they can be a number 1 wr. lets take a lookie see at kellers stats... 8,6,7,2,3,1,2 those are his number of receptions for the last 7 games of the year. hmm interesting how his production dropped off after he had his mid season coming out party. that happens because this is the nfl and they arent going to let a matchup situation be a problem if they know its going to be a pass every time the guy comes in. i would be more than happy with byron leftwich but he wants a sure thing starter role. fact is he is better than anyone we have right now. and i would like to win some games this year. if they were to bring someone who has actually played well in the league and let the other 2 battle it out with kc going away when he proves to not be able to handle the role. that would make me a little happier. however going into camp with kc who has proven nothing other than that he CANT do the job and a guy who has thrown late in preseason games. although he had a very good camp i dont think that makes him worthy of turning the ship over to him quite yet. prove it to me this year and its all yours. however going in without a backup plan is fuckin suicidal. i dont have all the answers on how to fix it but i can tell you this much there are issues and things that nobody should be too comfortable with. but those of you who substitute reality with what you want to see are never going to admit that even if it all turns to shit.
What some folks who think the Jets offense is suddenly the worst in the NFL due to the retirement of Brett Farve, fail to understand is, despite all the talk from to so called "experts", up until this point the Jets actions or lack their of on the QB front should tell you something. While the majority of fans and "experts" seem to believe that who the Jets have right now at the QB and Wr spot is below average, it should be obvious by now, that is not the case. If at the beginning of free agency the Jets did not go out and sign the "aged Vet" who would need as much time as possible to learn this offense. Then the odds are they are going to play either Clemens or Ratliff this year. Of course we still have the draft to go and we could see some movement then, yet, even if they selected a QB with the first pick that player would not be ready to start by the beginning of the season. Because no matter how you slice it even Angie will have a better grasp of the system then the rookie. So all you folks looking to draft Sanchez, you must understand he would have to sit for at least two years anyway. Now I have a question to all those who feel that Clemens or Ratliff will be unable to step up. Do you guys really think that Shotty went to Rex and said we need to acquire a vet because these 3 guys we have won't cut it and in turn Rex told him "I don't care what you think, I won with a rookie in Baltimore and will win with one of these guys just as well? No I don't think so either, More like Rex to Brian, hey can one of these kids carry the load next season? Yes, coach I think if we are working with both over the off season and one of them knows he will have to be the starter and the other the backup next year they will both step up and we are going to be fine. Now here is why I feel that one of these two guys at the QB spot is going to be better then anyone is giving them credit for. Reason 1- Brian wants to be a HC and his star is on the rise he had a shot at the Jets HC job the past year and although he was not chosen he was on many HC list this past interview season. So in many ways this coming season is audition and chance to show he can truly pull a rabbit out of a hat. He must know that if the Jets offense with either of the two young QB's under center makes the playoffs this year after all the negativity being spouted this off season it will make him shine in many GM's and owners eyes. This along with Brian's knowledge of both these young men as well as the young WR's in house make me believe that all this talk about the Jets not having confidence in these young players is nothing more then people talking out of there asses. Much of this HC in the making reputation is riding on one of these young men really excelling in his system. Many may also disagree with me but, when little is expect from the Jets as will be the case this coming season, we often come out and bit teams right in the ass. I honestly believe the Jets are going to really surprise many teams this year and what is most going to surprise them is just how good the offense is going to be. Reason 2- Is just so simple and that is Rex Ryan, I just have a feeling that this man's force of personality in his first year as a HC will push these players on both sides of the ball to new heights.....
What people are forgetting is that a good TE is a young QBs best friend. Keller has the ability to get open underneath, on seam routes, and destroy LBs that bite on play action. This alone should help the QB ?(and does anyone believe that Clemens will actually beat out Ratliff?) develop. Finally, I think this is the year Leon gets more involved on offense. Leon could be the Jets' version of Brian Westbrook; he has shown elusiveness and skills as a receiver. There is no reason he should not be on the field every snap. Even if he is lined up at WR, he should still be out there every down. I think these 2 things can make or break the Jets offense in this coming season.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but again, we have a group of nay-sayers without much to back up their...nay-saying. I'm actually rather excited thinking about the fact that we have one of the youngest offenses in the league with room to grow. But the truth of the matter is, we don't have enough information to know whether we should be jumping for joy or jumping off of roofs. Clemens, as I'm sure all will agree, played when the Jets o-line was complete crap and team morale was down. And although he wasn't good, he wasn't terrible, and flashed moments of potential (see: performance against the Raven's D). Brett looked REALLY good in pre-season. Yes, it was only pre-season and yes he played against 2nd and 3rd stringers. But the fact that his opposition sucked didn't make his arm look stronger. That he did on his own. And Ainge, well, being a Gators fan, I hate Ainge. But, that being said, who the fuck knows what he is capable of. Same can be said of our receiving corps. Clowney looked fast as hell before getting hurt, and when he was finally healthy, Manidiot didn't want to put him to work. Stuckey, IMHO, has been undervalued and underutilized. But what I saw in him was a kid who was willing to fight for the ball and wanted to make plays. Will that translate into numbers? Who the hell knows. But let's give him a shot first. Cotch, I think we can all agree, is a superstar. And let's not forget, although he only made our practice squad last year, Marcus Henry is a big, untested target. (I think others have done a good job talking about our running game, O-line and TE so I wont). I'm not saying we're Super Bowl bound. What I am saying is that even the most knowledgable and avid Jets fan honestly has not clue what we have. Why not give our team a chance first and see what we have before we start predicting 2-14 seasons. I'm excited by the squad and can't fucking wait until camp!
Offense on the roster I think we have some talent already on the roster. Why don't we give Clemens and Ratliff a chance before going off half cocked after Cutler. Why not let Stuckey and Clowny show what they can do? We have one of the best Olines around. Lets give the talent we already have a chance.
I dont think the Offense is as bad as people make it out to be. I mean dont get me wrong. We need to find a QB. But eventually you have to give young guys (guys you draft) a shot and thats what the Jets are doing here. The Jets have a good O-Line and they have a very strong running game. Washington is a playmaker and a home run threat everytime he touches the ball. Keller emerged as one of the better young Tight Ends in the game last season and with his physichal abilities he is going to create a lot of matchup problems for opposing defenses. Cotchery is a pretty good number 2 WR and Stuckey and Clowney havent shown me anything either way. So im not sold on them being good number 3 and 4 WR's but I cant really say they cant do it either. I actually like Stuckey a lot and think he could be a pretty good slot receiver. But thats just my opinion. The Jets need a number 1 WR and at this point in his career the Jets could very well get somebody in the draft who will have a bigger impact on this offense then Coles would have. QB is the big question mark. But there isnt anything wrong with taking a chance on a young QB. Eventually you have to see what you have with these guys otherwise why waste draft picks on them.
