Nice find.....Gilbert looks good in practice. His technique is very good, nice leverage and hands, must had some good coaching.

Its the pedigree, WW .. his father was an NFL Player (O-lineman)

Its no different than a kid who's father is a lawyer .. he's gonna have a head start over the other kids in law school

When I knew Jarron Gilbert was the real deal:

Against Fresno State, the Bulldogs ran a toss play to the opposite side of Gilbert - he chased down Fresno's running back, Lonyae Miller, who supposedly ran a 4.39 in spring ball last year, and made the tackle. His relentless pursuit is his best trait - his motor never stops.

Damn, that's impressive. A Revis/Harris, Gholston/Keller trade up scenario with Britt/Nicks and Gilbert would be awesome.

great video, great post...thanks. I didn't know much about him except for the stuff that I saw on Youtube, I've read a lot about him but not much broken down like that. Gilbert looks great, following your latest mock draft, i think i would be really happy if we took this kid at #17 but would be estatic if he fell to the 2nd round and we traded up a few pics to grab him. If not:

give me Gilbert at #17 and Robiskie/Britt in the second round if britt falls and i'll be very happy.

Agreed, you need some God-given ability and desire....but proper technique and coaching turn average players into very good players.

Practice doesn't make perfect..........practicing proper fundamentals makes a player excel.

I would be absolutely ecstatic if the Jets take Jarron Gilbert. He is kinda like a Ellis-type player in that he can pressure and sack the quarterback, in addition to the standard duties of holding blockers and wrapping up ball carriers.

Reminds me more of Richard Seymour. Looking at his build, he still has room to grow. Scary.

Jabba, do you think the signings of Howard Green and Marques Douglas take us out of the running for Gilbert in the draft? I know those are backups, short deals, etc., but still, I feel like the moves we've made suggest we're taking a WR first.

Even though you asked Jabba, I'll answer.
I don't think those signings really mean anything towards us not drafting a DE. We had absolutely NO depth in the D Line. We had what, Pouha and DeVito backing up the whole Dline? We still have room for another.

Jabba pretty much has me sold on this guy now. And i thought about Seymour as well when i saw how big he was already.

Where do we get him in the draft though? Do we take him at seventeen? Or try to trade down and maybe get him later?

I would imagine the Pats will consider him at 23. They love big defensive lineman that can occupy space and get to the qb. In a perfect world we could trade down 27-28 and get Gilbert and pick up extra picks.

This is the only defensive player I would consider in the first round.

I don't believe anyone has brought up this point up about Gilbert.

The Jet's D-Line coach, Kerry Locklin, is from Fresno State and knows Gilbert very well from the WAC. I'm sure Locklin will have some influence with the Jet's brass about Mr Gilbert.

Just something to think about, that could have an impact on Mr. Gilbert wearing Green & White.

I'm sure he knows more about Gilbert than any coach on this team...

I don't know if Fresno's HC Pat Hill used Locklin to break down opposing team's defensive lines. Other than that, I don't know how much Locklin actually watched Gilbert - he was busy converting linebackers to defensive end because Fresno's defensive line was so beat up.

Just being in the same conference, Locklin had to be familiar with Gilbert. A defensive coordinator, doesn't usually worry about the other team's defense. I posted it just to let some posters be aware of the possibilities.

Yea, I knew what you meant - good information.

Just a little more on Locklin: He wasn't the Dogs' defensive coordinator - that job belonged to Dan Brown, who passed away last night...he lost his battle with brain cancer. Locklin coached Fresno's defensive line and linebackers. Had he stayed with Fresno, he probably would've been named DC.
