Update: Little Danny Woodhead Feels ?Great? Posted on March 11th, 2009 by Bent Randy Lange checks in with an update about Danny Woodhead, who the Jets still have under contract for another two years and is now recovered from the knee injury which landed him on injured reserve last season.?I feel great, I really do. I?m doing everything that everyone else is?I?m excited to play football. That?s what I?m here for. I?m not here to hang out in the training room. So I?m very excited to be back.? Woodhead, whose NCAA all-time rushing record was broken this season, learned a lot last season and even won a team award for ?carrying himself like a pro?.With Jim Leonhard expected to be the punt returner, Leon Washington a pro-bowl kickoff returner and Jehuu Caulcrick looming as competition to be the third running back (assuming they don?t draft a running back, which is a distinct possibility), Danny will have to have a great training camp if the Jets are to find room on their roster for him. You can?t help but get a Chrebetesque vibe from this kid, though. Last year, every time we posted about Danny Woodhead, a bunch of people from Nebraska found the post and left comments. It was clear from those posts that he is a special kid with a lot of support back home. If you fit that description, welcome aboard! > http://www.thejetsblog.com/ __________________________ > http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/sherwood__2_/albums.jhtml?albumId=1483650
I dont know why threads keep getting posted about this guy, I dont see him making the roster, might be a great practice team player though.
honestly, If Woodhead shows real promise as a PR guy, I really think he gets the job. Why risk a starter if you dont have to? just let the third RB do it. Plus I would love to see little Woodhead on the roster, he is a firey little guy, and still love the Chrebet comparison, but it still only fits if he makes the roster and makes a big time impact for us. We need a new flashlight!
With all the guys in our backfield, he is up against it big time but you never know....special teams maybe....or practice roster....but if he makes the practice squad I see him getting signed elsewhere as soon as someone loses a RB for the season.
I like Woodhead but the problem is he is to similar a player to Washington... what we miss right now is a power back, not a fast back we already have in W. But still, let him go through camp and prove what he is capabable of... and then we'll see...
Woodhead did his pro day at Nebraska, I think the numbers he put up there are legit. He's got the measurables, he produced in college, he deserves a shot.
And what happens if Leon gets hurt? Woodhead could suddenly be very valuable. Look I know we can't have contingencies for every position, but if the guy is as special as he seems to be, you make room for him on the roster and cut the stiffs that we all know are not special at all.
Title got a laugh out of me. I mean, since when does 'head not feel great? Nyuk nyuk nyuk. Please continue.
I disagree with this. Would I love to have a power back to pair with Leon? Of course! But people these days act as if two backs have to be polar opposites, to confuse the defense. An NFL D is not going to overrun the slower back, or misjudge the faster back.. Having two quick backs would be fine!
agreed besides, the third Rb only really will see carries in an emergency situation anyways. i mean what did chatman get 2 carries before he got hurt? we never did sign anyone to make a third back, to give carries too...
