Name: Lee Robinson Position: ILB/OLB College: Alcorn State Measurables: 6'2, 250 lbs, 4.65 40 2008 stats: 111 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 3 PBUs, 3 INTs Info/News on Robinson from Draft Sites 01/29/09 - Texas vs. the Nation, Wednesday: OLB Lee Robinson (Alcorn State, 6-2, 249): He could challenge Owens as the top pick from this game because he's a physical specimen, and he can really play. Scouts value a guy like Robinson who can hold up a pulling guard in space but run with backs in coverage down the sideline. - Chad Reuter, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com 01/28/09 - Texas vs. The Nation, Tuesday: Lee Robinson, a linebacker from Alcorn State, continues to impress with his athleticism. Even at 249 pounds, he has the ability to track running backs in the flat and get to receiver in short zones. He's a guy who looks like Tarzan -- and plays like him, too. Of this week's participants, Robinson should be one of the first players drafted. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com 01/27/09 - Texas vs The Nation, Monday: Alcorn State linebacker Lee Robinson is all of 6-2, 249 and appears destined to be a 3-4 inside linebacker to use his strength and athleticism. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com "His strengths include: Great athleticism and strength, especially upper body. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, and has good speed, leaping ability, and explosiveness. He has good instincts and is always heading towards the ball. He is a big hitter who enjoys laying out the ball carrier. He is good at getting off of blocks. He is extremely versatile- he played OLB in college, but also got down in a 3 point stance frequently to take advantage of his explosiveness in rushing the passer. His size, run stopping ability, and instinct make him a possibility at inside backer as well. At the Texas vs. The Nation game, he showcased his ability to cover TEs and RBs one on one, and should be fully capable of dropping into coverage in a 3-4, as well as hanging with athletic pulling guards trying to block down field in space. He is a fantastic leader, both in the game and out." Some notes from his performance at the Texas vs The Nation game via draftguys.com: Lee Robinson (LB-Alcorn State) - Robinson had the defensive play of the practice with a twisting interception snagged out of the air at full extension on a Chase Patton fastball. Robinson showed excellent coordination staying on his feet and turning instantly into a returner after the spectacular pick. He’s clearly a tremendous athlete. Robinson is by far the best athlete of the LBs on either squad, and he uses that edge to make plays. He stayed with speed demon Devin Moore step for step on a deep route, and also stuck to Bernard Scott down the field in backs on backers. He also displayed terrific quickness and drive to penetrate and shoot gaps against the run, and explodes into his tackles. Robinson is definitely one of the best prospects in this game. You can see Robinson’s superior athleticism/size combo out there even if you’re not looking for it. He didn’t make huge plays like Joseph, but his burst off the snap, ability to fight through blocks, and one play where he easily threw an opponent to the ground all amounted to a good closing argument in the case he built to be a mid-round pick in the draft during the week in El Paso. He will make for great depth in the 3-4 because he can play both ILB and OLB, but I can see him becoming a stud ILB in the 3-4. Like the evaluations say, he has the strength to take out guards and the speed and athleticism to run with TEs and WRs in coverage. He is a leader both on the field and off, and he can immediately sub in for David Harris on 3rd downs and in coverage situations. Rex Ryan will turn Lee Robinson into a Ray Lewis type of player, minus the off-field incidents. He's got all of the physical tools and the intangibles, his only question mark comes with his level of competition, but he has showed that he can play with and even outperform the big boys.
He showed legit strength at the combine...please don't compare him to Ray Lewis though. Also, he's only played ONE game against the "big boys" - everything else he's done is against I-AA talent. He's 6'2 249 - what's so superior about that? That's average size for a NFL backer. There's already a sleeper thread...and it seems like you've already brought up Robinson. Once is enough... http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=42483&page=3
I can draw attention to a certain player by making their own thread if I want to. And the only thing that I actually wrote was the last bit - the rest is from scout evaluations. I believe the word "superior" was referring to his size/athleticism combination. Ray Lewis = 6'1, 250 lbs David Harris = 6'2, 243 lbs Lee Robinson = 6'2, 250 lbs I'd say Robinson has very good size for a 3-4 ILB. Unlike Harris, Robinson is a legit 3-down LB and is not a liability in coverage. He's a very good prospect. Don't let your distaste for me turn you off of a potentially great LB.
He's a I-AA linebacker that ran a 4.7 40...nothing about him screams "potentially great" From what I've read on Robinson, he has a slow back pedal and can't keep up with most tight ends unless they run short or intermediate routes. He apparently has stiff hips as well. Robinson would get worked by a NFL tight end. I never said he wasn't a good player - I like that he showed great strength at the combine and that he hustles on almost every play. I'm all about high motor players. I never knew height and weight made Ray Lewis one of the best linebackers of all-time. Brad Kassell is 6'3 245, why didn't Ryan keep him and turn him into the next Ray Lewis?
"Robinson is by far the best athlete of the LBs on either squad, and he uses that edge to make plays. He stayed with speed demon Devin Moore step for step on a deep route, and also stuck to Bernard Scott down the field in backs on backers." If he stayed step for step with Devin Moore, I think he will hold up just fine against NFL TEs.
The only thing your attempting to draw attention to is yourself now that your Madden fantasy thread is closed. You brought him up almost a month ago but now its relevent for its own thread out side of the sleeper thread why?
GM..............I remember a couple of weeks ago you bringing up Robinson and I commented how his Head Coach was pissed that the AD fired all the assistant coaches. I also remeber stating, that he had a decent combine, but I never saw game tape. You probably didn't need to start a thread on this player, since you already brought him to our attention. Just some friendly advice....to avoid the hastle.
