that's a pretty nice mock, I don't think there is any way moore misses day 1 though, also I hear TB is nuts about Freeman, and last little nitpick is I think Sean Smith is way too high. On a positive side I particularly like the Oher pick, orakpo and alphonso smith, all highly likely and great fits.
Very nice, I don't see the Colts getting Harvin though...they like the route runner possession guys and Harvin is the opposite of that.
JFIPA............nice mock, I know it takes alot of time and effort to put a 3 rd mock together. I'll just comment on the Jet's picks......... Rd 1...Nicks is fine with me, I would also consider Sean Smith who went right after the Jet's pick. Nicks & Smith are my two primary targets that should be available for the Jets at 17. Sanchez is my wild card, if he's available. Rd 2......I don't think Ziggy is going to last that long. Larry English would be my choice, it seems his stock has taken a hit. But I love your thinking adding depth to the D-Line...mucho needed. Rd 3........I'm not to thrilled about O-Line in Rd 3.....I wouldn't mind..... Jasper Brinkley ILB for depth, even though we signed Scott.
I think some people are drafted far to high but In general its pretty good Jet choices not great but pretty good
I liked the Urbik pick. We need young quality O-line depth. Urbik can play tackle or guard. It would be great to not only start grooming someone, but have depth incase of injury.
The Saints just signed Jabari Greer so I doubt they go Jenkins. However since he may play safety I will give you benefit of the doubt.
I like Urbik, he's very versatile....I prefer Levitre much more. I just would go a different direction in the first 3 rounds, we have more needs than O-line depth . We have our entire O-Line intact for another year, which is outstanding. I agree we should draft a G/OT in this year's draft, but later in day 2.
Quick note -- William Moore ran a 4.39 40 at his pro day today, had a 37.5 inch vertical jump, 10'3" broad jump and looked great in positional drills. He might still not be a 1st rounder at this point, but he certainly will get taken in the first 3 rounds.
dude if shonn greene is there in the third we have to take him, i would take him in the second if it wasnt for ziggy being there, i think we might want to trade up for another second if were going to get shonn
Following who's available in JFiPA's draft Rd 1.........Hakeem Nicks ( Sean Smith would be considered...tough decision, I'm going with need) Rd 2.........Larry English (Ron Brace would be also considered) Can't have enough Pass Rushers. Rd 3.........Jasper Brinkley...I'm not passing him by, even though Scott is signed. (Jaruis Byrd would be strongly considered...the Kid is a Ball Hawk and has the knack for ints)
I think that Jairus Byrd would make for a Pro Bowl CB if he lands in a Cover 2 scheme. He doesn't have the speed to stick with the faster NFL WRs in man coverage. The 3rd round CB I like best is Mark Parson followed closely by Bradley Fletcher. As for Brinkley - isn't he exactly what we already have in David Harris - an ILB that is a pure run stuffer and doesn't offer much in coverage. If I had to with how this mock fell, I'd keep the first two picks exactly the same except I'd take Cody Brown with the 3rd rounder. 1) Nicks 2) Hood 3) Brown And somewhere later I'd find a spot for Lee Robinson from Alcorn State. 6'2, 250 lbs, very instinctive, strong enough to take on a pulling guard and athletic enough to cover in the open field. Here's a little something on him - http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=9822&draftyear=2009&genpos=OLB Make sure to read his 3 news clips, I'd think he'd be an absolute steal for us in the 6th which is where he is projected to go.
I didn't even consider keeping Ziggy Hood in Rd 2, I should have, you're right on....... but I convinced myself there is no way he would last to mid rd 2. So i went with English. I stated in a earlier post that Brinkley would be for depth....plus he's too good of a player to pass in Rd 3. Brinkley would be a 1st rd pick if he didn't suffer his set backs. I have no problem having...Scott, Harris and Brinkley in the middle and Brinkley used in the Rotation. Jaruis Byrd some are considering moving him to Safety. Byrd's knock is his height. I believe he ran a 4.5 at the combine, not terrible. The Kid is a Ball Hawk and a playmaker. I never have felt Byrd could be that outside corner...thats why we have Revis and Sheppard.
It is because of his speed that I think he would make a great Cover 2 CB. He measured in at 5'10 at the combine but he has been listed at 6'0 forever so I would like some clarification on that although I guess the combine would be correct. I don't see him as an outside CB in the 3-4 or in a man-coverage scheme, but as a C2 CB where it is mostly zone I think he would be dynamite. And check out that LB I posted the link for and tell me what you think about him, I'm curious to gather other people's takes. Additional info on him: "His strengths include: Great athleticism and strength, especially upper body. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, and has good speed, leaping ability, and explosiveness. He has good instincts and is always heading towards the ball. He is a big hitter who enjoys laying out the ball carrier. He is good at getting off of blocks. He is extremely versatile- he played OLB in college, but also got down in a 3 point stance frequently to take advantage of his explosiveness in rushing the passer. His size, run stopping ability, and instinct make him a possibility at inside backer as well. At the Texas vs. The Nation game, he showcased his ability to cover TEs and RBs one on one, and should be fully capable of dropping into coverage in a 3-4, as well as hanging with athletic pulling guards trying to block down field in space. He is a fantastic leader, both in the game and out." And from the Texas vs. The Nation game via DraftGuys.com: "Lee Robinson (LB-Alcorn State) - Robinson had the defensive play of the practice with a twisting interception snagged out of the air at full extension on a Chase Patton fastball. Robinson showed excellent coordination staying on his feet and turning instantly into a returner after the spectacular pick. He’s clearly a tremendous athlete. Robinson is by far the best athlete of the LBs on either squad, and he uses that edge to make plays. He stayed with speed demon Devin Moore step for step on a deep route, and also stuck to Bernard Scott down the field in backs on backers. He also displayed terrific quickness and drive to penetrate and shoot gaps against the run, and explodes into his tackles. Robinson is definitely one of the best prospects in this game. You can see Robinson’s superior athleticism/size combo out there even if you’re not looking for it. He didn’t make huge plays like Joseph, but his burst off the snap, ability to fight through blocks, and one play where he easily threw an opponent to the ground all amounted to a good closing argument in the case he built to be a mid-round pick in the draft during the week in El Paso." Robinson's versatility - his ability to play inside or outside in the 3-4 - makes him a huge asset for depth. He can also be brought along slowly like Suggs and Scott were in Baltimore (he can come in on 3rd downs for coverage at first) and then eventually replace Scott. I don't really think he is a development prospect however - the question surrounding his NFL ability is the level of competition he faced in college, but he showed during All-Star games that he can hang and even outplay the big boys. One draft pick that provides depth for 4 positions and a potential future starter (and potential future stud)? No brainer in my mind, especially since he will be a mid-late round pick.
Honestly, I don't know a heck of alot about Robinson, he sounds familiar from the combine. I really don't follow the SWAC. When I think of Alcorn State, I think of their Marching Band....usually better than the Football team. I remember last year the A.D. fired almost the entire coaching staff....without informing the Head Coach....funny shit. There was an excellent prospect RB from Alcorn a few year's back........Jeremy McCoy....the kid didn't derve to be in a Div1-AA school. He had game. Thanks for the head's up on Robinson....I'll keep an eye out for him.
That's a really good job, PA .. I hadn't seen it because I was working all nite on my own mock draft, but its amazing how we agree on the value of quite a few players that are not the consensus values Anyway, I really like what you did here (I mean the entire mock) and I would be happy with Nicks & Hood for the Jets
Hah, that's funny I did that because Scott Wright did the same thing somewhere on his site and I remember thinking the same thing. Thank you all for the feedback.. I was surprised Ziggy Hood fell that far too, but it just happened that way. In fact, none of the three top 3-4 DEs made it to the first.. Just the way it played out.. Just a hunch on Moore falling. Inconsistent tackling, questionable coverage skills and a mediocre senior year are the causes of that.. I wouldn't consider Anthony Gonzalez or Marvin Harrisson possesion guys though.. It's true they're receivers run good routes and have good hands, but I wouldn't call them possesion guys.. It may seem that way, but on draft day things don't play out like you imagine. You need to make some somewhat surprising but sensible picks to make the draft more real. There's always guys that fall far that you didn't think and guys that go much higher then you thought.. Yes you're correct. I drafted him assuming he plays safety. I think offensive line depth is a solid need. We have Robert Turner and Wayne Hunter and that's about it. Plus Alan Faneca is in his 30s as is Damien Woody. It's time to get a young lineman in development for depth at the very least.. Thanks. I'm about to check yours out..
One more thing, PA I would have liked this Jets draft even more if you projected Shonn Greene to the Jets in RD 3 Nicks, Hood and Greene would have been quite a haul and I think we need another RB because Jones is 31 and Rex has already said we are going to be a running team, a team that runs the ball and plays aggressive defense
