Good post, it's nice to see the roster broken down by age. The age of the d-line definitely speaks to our need to draft a 3-4 DE early.

the only thing we really need to do is start building for the future across the dline mainly ends since both starters at 30 or older. The O-line isn't in to bad shape but certainly room to get younger.

IMO, there's a lot more thinking as a 3-4 DE then there is as a 4-3 DE. I think, in some cases, it's more productive to have "Older, wiser" ends in the 3-4 as opposed to the 4-3 which prefer "younger, more athletic" DEs. Just my opinion though.

    Good thread by the way.

I considered the age at October 1st 2009.
Weird thing is that our whole O-line was born between November and early January (except for Moore who is born in June, I guess that's why he was cut :D), while the rest of the Offense either in June or August except Keller in September (just a bit off) and Richardson in December.

I was thinking about this yesterday actually.
Due to age this is how I believe we should draft this year.

    1-WR
    2-DE
    3 & 4-BPA (between G,DT,RB,CB)

Why CB? I think we are covered in that area...
I think we'll go WR, DL, RB, G

Sheppard could easily be a FA next season. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a CB at #17.

I think we'll let Sheppard walk only if Lowery will develop in a starting corner this year. Otherwise just give him in the money or rework the contract (which i think is what we'll end up doing).

IMO corners seem to decline around 30 which he will be at in about 2 years, plus he has had his fair share of the injury bug. PLUS you can never have enough corners... (especially when the Texans and Saints needs for a CB are no longer.)

Therefore, I predict Vontae Davis could be there at 17. If not, I have heard many times that CB is a deep position this year so why not take advantage of this?

beef up the down linemen, they need to get younger.

its time to know that the team can fight this year, but it needs to be ready three years from now.

Its time to draft well and deep and replenish when its time.

    I'll take either:

QB, RB, WR, DE, DL, OLB, ILB in the first round

Please just no in the first:

    TE K P

I'll leave it up to people that know better

my point was i honestly don't care who we take in the first, and am totally fine with the direction this FO takes.

I think Wide Receiver is the most popular and recognized pick/need but lots of us (myself included) would not be angry at all if we picked elsewhere. I can't think of a position that would anger me if we picked. (except obvious things like ST)

Its interesting to see it broken down this way, but placing too much weight to age as a factor in drafting talent can easily resualt in a mistake.

Take safty for instance. While it seems we are "set" age wise, we could easily pick up a talent upgrade over the likes of Leonhard. We may be young at Widereceiver, but we are not all that talented. D-line and O-line could use some young depth, but we need to stop trading up all the time if we want to start building some.

It also needs to be said that we're NOT set at ILB. We have zero depth at the position, making it a position of serious need in the draft. ILB wouldn't be a bad place to go in the first, although my preference lies elsewhere.

That's the key right there. We are desperate for depth on both sides of the line, ILB, WR, and possibly RB. We could stand one more solid corner. We have enough needs that we could trade down and still pick up solid depth, but trading up is unacceptable this year.

I think having Harris, Scott and a first rounder would be overkill considering we have bigger roster holes. I'm sure we can pick up a half decent FA or low draft pick for depth, plus didn't we bring back Bowens? Or we could re-sign Barton...
