We all know we need a #1 WR, but where in heck do you think we are going to get him at?
Some will say draft one but that not a sure bet.
Some will sign one in FA..but who at there?

    Who???

Well you say drafting one is not a sure bet. Well neither is getting one in FA or trading for one. So I'm really confused. :breakdance:

It?s a pretty safe bet, that Cotch will be our #1 this year. Even if we draft a high profiled Rookie, they usually need 2-3 Years before they really perform. But we don?t have anyone to toss the Rock anyway, so who cares.

Play D, Run it down their throat. 17:9 wins all year!

.........and JC is not even close for a #1 WR in my opinion. He could be , but I don't see it , solid #2 at best.

We still got Cotch who is a great #2 and if needed could be a solid #1 [82 Catches 1130 Yards in 15 games in 2007] we got clowney who could be a big player for us and we still got an emerging Chansi stuckey.... That all said we need to get a #1 Receiver in the draft and theres a couple of guys i like Kenny Britt , Derrius Heyward-Bey, Crabtree , Maclin and ofcourse my favorite of the bunch Hakeem Nicks from NC. I Think he can be a great player.

We don't need a #1 receiver and I think they know it. We need a Welker type who can get open over the middle. If at some point we get a big armed accurate franchise QB then they will start looking for a typical #1 type receiver.

Man, I could just bash the hell out of this post, but what's the point? I don't believe in kicking dogs, either.

I don't think we're going to pursue a WR in FA, unless it's just some JAG depth guy that will compete for a starting job. Or trade for one (a JAG) if it comes to it. I don't see us drafting one in the 1st round, either. Maybe the second, since this year is apparently deep at the position. 1st round I think is a lock for defense.

No, it's not a sure bet. However, of our needs in the draft, WR and DE are the ones best addressed in the first round. Should a good 3-4 DE prospect fall to us at 17, we may move in that direction and attempt to pick up our WR in the 2nd. However, I expect us to go with Hakeem Nicks in the first round. We limit the bust potential by taking a guy who has proven his worth on the field, rather than a workout wonder with a lot of questions still attached to him. If Maclin somehow falls to 17, that would change things a bit.

That Welker type just signed yesterday with Seattle, TJ Housh.

We need a playmaker on Offense. Take the best player available at #17 whether it be Knowshon, Nicks, Maclin, Britt, etc.

Andre Johnson has been the most productive WR in football the last 2 years with less than stellar QB play (Schaub and Rosenfels).

So instead of focusing on having the right QB in our system, let's take the BPA in the draft and build around that.

Prior to the Sheppard pickup, I would have agreed with you, and felt the pick would be a CB. Now? I'm not so sure. If we pick up a corner in the first round, what does it say about our confidence level in our new pickup? I agree that his history doesn't make him deserving of confidence, but we have too much money invested in the position for that kind of pick. A DE would be nice, but unless Tyson Jackson is there, we can pick up our depth at that position late. Someone like Jarron Gilbert will be available into the middle rounds, and someone like Zach Potter in the late rounds. I'm not sure where else on defense draft that early, unless we try to add another ILB to the mix. I think it's more likely we build up depth there with late picks and FA rather than commit the money.

Could be wrong, but trading down and/or taking a receiver makes the most sense. Warner resigning with the Cardinals hurts the prospect of trading down. Nobody will want to move up without Sanchez sitting there after 10.

I'm with abyzmul here: I'm thinking Jets will go with a DE with 1st. Should Raji fall to 17th *that will NOT happen, btw* Jets may go NT. Other than that, I am inclined to think that they will pick up a DE. WR can wait, actually, as our QBs are young, and takes time to mature. All the more reason to pick a WR after 3rd.

The Ravens have a dominant defense mostly because over the years, they have drafted heavily on defense and filled the ranks. I don't see us signing Scott and Leanhard and trading for Sheppard as doing much for our depth. No dominant defense makes do with just solid starters.

Look at the Giants as well. They spent all of these high picks on depth guys, and their rotation holds up their end of the bargain. If Ryan is going to go the Ravens model, we'll probably spend the majority of our picks, round 1 included, on defense. And not just starters.

    Our DL depth is PUTRID.

    A NT?

Draft a backup to Jenkins in the first round? Or was that a typo for DE?

I agree 100%. I'm just wondering who will be available at that point and worth the #17 pick on our DL. I could see an argument for building depth by taking an ILB at the position, particularly if we're going to enter the draft with only two players at the position. However, unless Tyson Jackson drops to 17, I don't see us standing pat and dropping the money on someone who would still be there later. With no Ivy coming in, I suppose CB may still be a possibility. The value is really only there at CB and ILB in the mid-1st. I'd be ecstatic if we were able to trade down a bit, but I'm not sure who would be likely to trade up.
