In pursuit of acquiring Quentin Groves from the Jags. I like him better than Cody Brown as a 3-4 OLB. Quentin Groves: 6'3, 260 lbs, 4.53 40 (4.57 combine) Cody Brown: 6'2, 244 lbs, 4.8 40 (4.84 combine) Groves is just a much more explosive player and he is a depth player for Jacksonville behind Harvey who was the #8 overall last year. Groves has college experience at both 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB which is a plus. I initially wanted Cliff Avril who I loved last year and still do love as a 3-4 OLB but the Lions GM refuses to trade him at all.
The 2nd round has started and all of the following are still on the board: Duke Robinson, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Evander Hood, and Jarron Gilbert. I should get one of them in the 2nd. EDIT: Vontae Davis was just picked.
Looks like I will be getting Quentin Groves for a late 3rd round pick. Steal for our system IMO. He has experience in the 3-4 from his time at Auburn and the kid can flat out rush the passer. At 6'3 260 he could be an every down OLB and compete with Gholston right away + replace Pace in the future.
Many big things happened today, I will give you a quick run through. I traded Brandon Moore for a 3rd round pick. With three 3rd round picks, I used two of them to trade up into the 2nd and draft Sean Smith, CB/S. With the other, I used it to trade for Quentin Groves, OLB. I am currently OTC with both Evander Hood and Jarron Gilbert both available at the Jets pick in the 2nd round. I am working on acquiring some young RBs, primarily power RBs to compliment Leon. ** Check the 2nd post on the 1st page to see what it all looks like ** .
Me too - there were two 3-4 OLBs that I loved last year One was Quentin Groves and the other was Cliff Avril. If I could trade for both of them I would in a heartbeat, but the Lions GM has deemed Avril untouchable in trades. I love the fact that Groves had experience in the 3-4 at Auburn, and he liked playing in the 3-4 better than in the 4-3. He can be an immediate starter if he beats out Gholston but the main thing is that now we have two OLBs set for the next decade or so. The LB core is now Gholston/Groves, Harris, Crowder, and Pace. Pretty good.. For my 4th I am thinking one of two things - Cody Brown, OLB if he is there to complete our OLBs for the next decade, or a young NT to groom behind Jenkins. I like the latter idea if a guy like Sammie Lee Hill is there.
I made my second 2nd round pick this morning: Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose State Rex Ryan should have a lot of fun with this defense now. DE: Ellis NT: Jenkins DE: Gilbert/Coleman OLB: Groves/Gholston ILB: Harris ILB: Crowder OLB: Pace CB: Revis FS: Page/Smith SS: Rhodes CB: Bodden/Smith
The Jets and Broncos have agreed to the following trade (awaiting approval): Jets give: Eric Smith (SS) Broncos give: Ryan Torain (RB) and Cory Boyd (RB) The Broncos backfield is LOADED. In the IMD they drafted Knowshon so they him as the #1, Young as the #2, Bell as the #3, Hillis as the #4, and Torain as the #5. The carries will likely be split between Moreno and Young with some maybe going to Hillis, so the rest of the RBs are useless to them. Plus who carries 12 RBs on their roster - they currently have 11 if you don't count Knowshon. Meanwhile they need a safety and Smith has starting experience and is only 25 years old. He can start for them or he can be very good depth. Don't forget I have Jarrad Page as our starting safety next to Rhodes. TJ+Leon+Torain+Boyd = one very good backfield
1. Eric Smith for Ryan Torain is the most unrealistic trade I have EVER seen. 2. Stop bumping your own thread.
For the 10th time, everyone has power over their own team. I never said this is what is going to happen over the next two months - I'm just trying to build the best team possible. Broncos didn't need Torain, Jets didn't need Smith and both are positions of need for the other team. 2. I will continue to update it until it is finished. This way I can get the opinions of Jets fans at certain picks and for certain moves. You can ignore it, in fact please do. I never asked you to read any of it, if you don't like the thread you are fully capable of not clicking into it.
Front page is updated. The trade is official Jets give: Eric Smith (SS) Broncos give: Ryan Torain (RB) and Cory Boyd (RB)
I would be doing cartwheels! We don't really need Sean Smith now, but in terms of "talent" this draft is a homerun
Oh Yeah, and one more thing GM .... If Sean Smith is as good as I think he is, Jim Leonhard will make a really nice nickel/dime back
I was originally going to trade up to try and get Gilbert, but the way the draft was going both Gilbert and Hood were still on the board and most of the teams ahead of me didn't need either one, however a ton needed safeties -- so I traded up to get Smith right before there ended up being a run on safeties and still had my 2nd to get Gilbert. I know Smith isn't a need - I actually traded for Leigh Bodden and signed Jarrad Page in the IMD about a week ago (as opposed to trading for Lito Sheppard and signing Jim Leonhard like the Jets did in real life) so the scenario was quite the same. However I love Smith as a CB prospect and I like his versatility and I think Rex Ryan can use him in his different schemes and make him into one heck of an NFL player. With Revis, Bodden and Smith we have 3 CBs that can shutdown the opponents WRs and Rhodes and Page only add to our new no-fly-zone D. He is one of my favorite players in the draft and I jumped at the opportunity to get him and still have a pick to get Gilbert with. Now our starting defense is set and I can use my next 5 picks for depth. I am slightly considering trying to trade Bodden for a stud RG such as the Saints Jahri Evans, because as of now I have Woody sliding back into RG where he was a pro bowler with the Pats. I doubt I'll make the move though - I think what I have assembled on defense gives Rex Ryan what he had in Baltimore or better.
I will work on it, I think it would be more realistic to get Derrick Dockery from the Bills. Speaking of the intra-division rival, a trade has been agreed to in principle. If it gets accepted I will post it. I am slowly (quickly actually) making this team into the 2009 NFL Team to Beat :jets:
I will doubt this poster until he actually posts a link - everything about this is incredibly unrealistic.
