The last few offseasons for the Jets should indicate that they are picking up these free agents because they want to win NOW. If the Jets choose to go with Ratliff, Ainge, or whoever, its going to take time and unsuccessful to average seasons in order to develop these QBS. That would totally waste the money we spent for guys like Faneca, Jenkins, etc. If the Jets want to do this right, they have to trade for a guy like Cutler who is a mid 20s, already developed QB, who is just before his prime. We just can't accept rebuilding at this point.
or, what is going on is that the Jets understand that having great talent around a young QB, whether it be one on the roster or through the draft, helps the growing processs. ryan and flacco could not have become what they were with a bad team around them. they make all the calls and lead 4th qtr drives but the need a defense to keep them in the game and a running game to keep the defense honest. the jets are looking for continuity before anything... this team has never had continuity and I think they are looking for it. Hopefully its been found.
i'm sorry, but the Jets are not a defensive team at this point. They have got to be the most BALANCED team in the league for both sides of the football. We do not depend on one side over the other. Plus, we have the exact same amount of talent on offense and defense.
we may not be a defensive team...but Rex Ryan is a defense first guy...we will likely become one give any potential nfl qb an o-line and a running game and they should be successful Jay Cutler is not on the market...fielding an insane offer with a potential replacement in cassell is one thing, but merely getting picks and other positions doesn't answer anything for denver...why is it still being discussed
CLEMENS IS NOT A ROOKIE. It seems like everyone is treating this situation as if we have nobody with starting experience. I personally think Ratliff wins the competition, but if we go with Clemens i think he's capable of winning games in the type of offense we are going to run, as is Ratliff.. CALM DOWN EVERYONE!!!
if clemens is capable of winning games with this offense then we might as well bring back vinny to do it
...not anymore, we did get rid of favre, baker, and coles (3 starters on offense) without replacing them, and we got scott, sheppard, and leonhard...all improvements on defense and all gonna start. we are a defensive team.
Cutler isn't on the market.. they wanted Cassel and he isn't available anymore. Ratliff has been a part of Brianheimer's offense for 2 years, Clemens for 3, and both have probably learned a lot from seasoned veterans Favre and Pennington. If we traded for a vet, he'd have to learn a whole new offense before the start of next season. I don't see how that would be much of an improvement, especially considering the veterans currently available.
when you focus free agency on one side of the football, that usually means the other side is covered in the draft, so i would wait a couple months before making that assessment.
completely disagreed....our defense far outweighs our offense talent wise..... next year the jets defense is going to be freaking tough im telling you... we've filled all the necessary holes with upgrades not stopgaps....and we have an aggressive coach about to take hold.... our defense is going to take a giant leap next year....offense will take the back seat but our defense is going to be extremely tough......a little more depth on the defensive line, and a servicable WR and this team is set for the season IMO
after watching kerry collins get the titans to 10-0 or whatever it was...without any wrs to aid an already bad/aged qb then i have no problem going into the season as is...and will only be happier if we add more weapons to the offense in FA/draft
The Jets are trying to build up a real strong defense and depend on running the ball on Offense to win football games while developing a young QB like a Ratliff or Clemens or possibly somebody through the draft. Thats their plan. Just because you go witha younger QB it doesnt mean your rebuilding.
then Jim Sorgi should compete for the starting position in Indy after being in that system for a while. Back ups are back ups because they are less talented. If the Jets were interested in developing Clemens to be their franchaise QB, they would have been starting him from day one like Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, etc. But they didn't, why? Because they recognized that this guy is not going to lead them to the promised land. And a 59.3 passer rating in 14 career games (eight of which he started) certainly shows that.
Yeah and the problem with that is that Sorgi is backing up Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi was a 6th round pick. The Jets drafted Clemens in the 2nd round. They were obviously higher on him then the Colts were on Sorgi. Im not saying Clemens is the answer but saying that if the Jets thought he was the answer they would have started him from day 1 is dumb. Lots of QB's have sat the bench before playing. Plamer and Eli Manning come to mind.
Yeah they drafted him in the second round because they thought he had back-up talent. We drafted Clemens to be the successor of Pennington and then we brought in a hall-of-fame QB for a season **cough**PSLs**, and now it's his turn and his job to lose.
ok thats valid, but it doesnt make sense not giving Clemens a shot in his rookie year following an injury plagued season by Pennington who only played 3 games. Although the result was good (10-6), who could have predicted that in the beginning. It was supposed to be a rebuilding season.
