People are saying we dont have a pass rush....

Lets remember we rushed 3 down lineman with soft zone coverage on a regular basis....i dont care who your players are you will not get to the QB.....

we have the personel and it will show once we start blitzing like crazy....our secondary will be touted as one of the most improved in the league....yes beacause of some upgrades but mostly because we will pressure the QB....

have faith this jets defense will get in the backfield and we will see some pick 6's next year...

also our secondary is young to in its prime....lito is usually thought of as old but hes only 28 years old.....rhodes an revis are young...leonhard is in his prime....and lowery is entering his second year with much less of a role on this defense....we are in for something special mark my words...

This scheme is all about pressure, so of we are to be successful, it will be because we had a pass rush. Do any of us really KNOW? well...

Guys like Calvin Pace and hopefully Vernon Gholston should really be allowed blitz more this season with this new defense. One of the biggest problems last year was that the Jets stopped blitzing.

not only stopped blitzing but rushed 3 players sometimes 2.....it was obscene ... IMO that is the primary reason for the jets downfall

This sack is a great example of a Rex Ryan scheme creating a sack.

Scott doesn't even have to beat anyone, the scheme got him to the QB unblocked. Add in the fact that Ryan will use Scott or Harris as the MIKE on any given play. Ryan believes it will cause chaos and I believe him. I agree 100%, we will see a pass rush this season and it won't be because we signed player XYZ to be a pass rusher.

The secondary should be much improved if Sheppard can stay healthy allowing Ryan the freedom to be creative and send who he wants when he wants. Throw in Leonhard freeing up hollywood to freelance more and things could be exciting.

    Am I being too optimistic?

If you pay attention, you can hear faint "thump" sound upon the impact. Must have been really vicious hit. No wonder Ben was down for a long while.

sorry to rain on your guys parade, but we didnt always just send 3 guys and then have the qb pick apart our zone, we would rush 5, and all of our rushers would just get stoned by offensive lineman. It wasnt suttons fault that noone could get off a block, now maybe rex can teach gholston how to get off a block, but im not sold that just because he had ray lewis and t suggs, at his last job, he will be albe to magically turn our guys into them

then why were the Jets 2nd in sacks for 11 weeks until Mangini changed the defense after the Denver game?

they were getting to the QB, then things changed.

Their pressure's weren't as high - they could either get the sack or the QB had all day to throw.

Maybe Re-sign barton and use his aggresive style against other teams and have him rush off the edge, Still a decent burst but its better then if Ghoston decides to continue to suck ass and if BT doesn't wake up from his 2 year break Making just one comeback at the beginning of last season and then hiding under his rock again for the next 15 games.

If we get more d-line depth I agree we have all the pieces to be a force on D. Especially if RR can get anything out of Gholston and Thomas; I'm surprised we didn't cut BT, RR must see something in him because his contract is ugly. But again, without a solid d-line the 3-4 is nothing, and I'm worried about our DEs.

Mangini's and Sutton's blitzes sucked. They were predictable and you could always tell where the blitz was coming from. I doubt that will be a problem with Rex.

    before we go crazy.

we need Depth at DL and DE.

I hope we address both in the Draft. I know C.J. Mosley was okay, nothing great and Pouha is sub-par. Forget Mike DeVito.

If we draft a DE, and DT we will be set on Defense, because I dont see us going after anymore free agents, unless we do another stellar trade via Mike Tannenbaum aka the fucking contract genius..

Gholston was only on special teams, and never had to come off a block because he NEVER played. He played bench.

If anyone remembers correctly, Suggs was like Gholston except he was drafted as an OLB because he played OLB in college. Gholston played DE. Let Ryan and Pettine work with him and he will be in that ass this season.

I really really hope so anyway. No secondary can cover forever so we need the pass rush from someone to help make our CBs job that much easier

As Bart Scott said, Suggs was only used as a situational pass rusher in his rookie year... something Mangini (and not Sutton) has to take the blame for. They never gave him that situational opportunity based on his skill set and understanding of the scheme. Scott said he took Suggs under his wing and helped him improve the other aspects of his game. Quote-"I think we can do the same with Gholston."

I like the fact that he said "we" first off. I think we have a new leader on the D... a mean hard hitting "mad backer".

It wasn't Sutton's fault that his unit had no fire, were constantly in the wrong place and showed bad technique?
