PFT has leonhard joining the Jets http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/ DONE DEAL IN NEW YORK FOR LEONHARD Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2009, 1:16 p.m. After nearly reneging on a verbal agreement to join the New York Jets, Ravens free-agent safety Jim Leonhard has officially agreed to terms. Or has he? (Insert short burst of ominous music here.) The news comes from Adam Schefter of NFL Network, who says it’s a three-year deal. Word broke earlier in the day of Leonhard’s verbal agreement. And then the Broncos got involved.
FWIW, Cimini is reporting the Broncos' involvement to be a false alarm according to his own reps: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/03/report-jets-add-leonhard.html
Why don't they use the word "signed" when they state this so matter of factly? How does officially agreed to terms differ from verbally agreed to terms?
Lots of coverage sacks this year. Jets have to have one of the best secondaries in football. IF Gholston can rush the QB this could be the best defense in football.
cause theres always little clauses and bullshit legal jargon to be finalized before its officially "signed" its a slow day in the NFL and this turned out to be the only story reporting, so when he decided that hes gonna be a Jet and its being reported, I doubt the contract has officially been "signed" as you say.
All I'm saying is that this took the same route as the SCott deal did. They started this morning by saying he verbally agreed to terms, then said he was backing off because Denver stepped in, now says he has officially agrred to terms. Why even bother with the first two stories? Just say he agreed and leave it at that until he signs somewhere else.
Eric Boland Blog Jim Leonhard to Jets - officiallyThere had been some back and forth on this, but Jim Leonhard is officially a Jet. A three-year deal, according to a source
I'm excited also, but let's take it easy. This defense was a complete mess last year, especially in the secondary (I don't know if I've ever seen a worse pass coverage). Granted, Ryan's defensive schemes will help and the new additions will certainly help to. But best defense in football? Not yet.
Jim Leonhard Signed didn't see it posted. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3948787 Rex Ryan lured his second starter from the Baltimore Ravens when the Jets reached a three-year deal with safety Jim Leonhard on Tuesday, sources told ESPN.com. Leonhard Leonhard The financial terms of the deal weren't available, but Leonhard will join linebacker Bart Scott with the Jets. Scott signed a six-year, $48 million contract over the weekend. Leonhard, 26, came to the Ravens last year and established himself as a value safety for Ryan's defense in Baltimore. Ryan was the Ravens' defensive coordinator until he accepted the head coaching job with the Jets. In 16 games with the Ravens last year, Leonard, who is 5-foot-8, 186 pounds, had 69 tackles and returned one interception for a touchdown. He visited the Jets over the weekend and left without a contract. The deal was worked out Tuesday morning. Ryan had high praise for Leonhard after the free-agent period began. "Jim Leonhard is special," Ryan said. "No. 1, he looks like the guy delivering papers. He really is a smart player. He has a lot of poise. He's very sure of himself. "For some reason he gets saddled because he's short, but this guy's an outstanding athlete. He won two slam-dunk contest at the University of Wisconsin. He's an outstanding punt returner. I've always said he could catch a punt in a hurricane. "He's a smart, tough, passionate guy. You try to build your team with those kinds of players."
