So...Ratliff is probably no good because he lit up players that probably are out of football. And Clemens is no good, because the men on the right side of the line he played behind (Against alot of guys that are still in football) are no longer in football. I must have been out the day they taught logic in logic....
Wouldn't he have also been playing with 3rd stringers??? That means something as well. Personally, I just don't think, with other glaring needs, the Jets are in a position to take such a risky pick. DB, DE or WR would be less risky in my opinion. And, if Clemens/Ratliff don't workout, we'll have a relatively high draft pick to go after QB next year.
I'm saying you shouldn't assume that Ratliff is a starting caliber NFL QB based upon his 08' pre-season performance. He should have lit it up, or else something would have been seriously wrong. If Clemens is as good as everyone around here seems to think he is, how come he never opened any eyes in the 3 training camps he participated in as a Jet?? It's comical how some people on this board think they know more about football than an NFL coaching staff.
Thank you for an excellent post. You are 100% on the money. You will probably receive your unfair share of criticism from some TGG draft experts on this board, expounding on the values of Sanchez as someone with nothing but upside, with an above average arm and excellent foot work etc, etc, etc. No one seems to mention his poor judgment and ill advised gun slinger demeanor (read Brett without the same talent), with his willingness to take unnecessary chances and throw the ball in harm’s way, with tight double coverage or no open receiver. I have followed USC steady for the last 10 years. Since Carson Palmer the crop of QBs has been average at best. Sure Cassel did very well for the Patriots, but great coaching placed him in a position to win. Had he played in NJ under the same circumstances as Clement he would have been an abysmal failure. But our experts tell us Clement had his chance. What a load of BS. He had no line and was constantly running for his life. Gee, compare that to Cassel and his OL and wide receiver core group, not to mention play calling. I want to give Clement a chance under a different offensive philosophy and invest on a better WR that can help him succeed. I am absolutely unwilling to get yet another unproven and work in progress project with our first round again. I want an instant contributor and Sanchez is not it.
Next year...Next year.....Next year.... Those two words are the epitome of this team. Why next year? Why not this year? OK Clemens played behind a shitty line, that's fine but he didn't play behind a shitty line in TC and he was in no way lighting anything up. The CS picked up Brett Favre for a reason or two. PSLs sure, but do you honestly think if they had a decent QB on staff they would have pushed him off to the side to bring in Brett to sell tickets? That's absurd. Ratliff...yay. That's all I have to say. He lit up 3rd stringers, playing with 3rd stringers. Fine, does that tell you anything at all about how he'll perform against starters? Nothing...it says nothing. What is the answer? Who knows, but I feel pretty confident that Clemens won't be the guy. But hey, there's always next year.......next year.......next year........
The point is he played in 3 games while starting in 2. Thats not enough to judge him especially when his overal record as a starter isnt horrible. Not saying I think he is the answer but if im not going to draft a QB and I want to bring one in I would go with a guy like him over an older guy.
You are 1000% on the money. How many more years can this organization put off drafting a 1st round QB? I'm not saying it's necessarily this year, but we have to be getting damn close.
How do the Jets get this Clement guy? Is he an FA or an untouted rookie? You think maybe you should spend a little less time following USC and a little more time following the Jets?
What a ridiculous comment, obviously no one is saying that. Sure based on what we've heard from the coaching staff it seems like we are agreeing with them if anything. I believe Rex said he is fine with the Qb situation. Now obviously he could saying one thing and planning something else but right now we have no reason to believe otherwise, no rumors involving a QB.
It is time for Clemens to get a fair chance behind a real offensive line without Chad on the sideline and Chad's girlfriend Coles dividing the team regarding who should Qb. Look what Chad did behind a better line this year and Clemens did better than Chad and won more games than Chad in 07. With less of a team when he got in. Clemens had Wallace Wright and Brad Smith as starters in one game. Sanchez is the latest USC Bum let him go. And Qb rating is the most overrated stat in Football so please do not use that to judge Clemens or any other Qb.
Totally! And this whole win it with D only thing is bullshit. I'm not convinced this O as it stands can pull out 2 TDs a game, let alone 3. When you have BF behind center, you can certainly rack up some yards on the ground. How easy is that going to be with KC or BR behind center? Here's a link to KC against the Ravens.....watch him. Not impressed at all. A couple of nice throws but he's staring down his receiver the whole time. How long do we think opposing Ds are going to let that slide? Yeah screwed up the video import on that deal
I'm referring to those around here who seem to think we have a "hidden gem" in Kellen Clemens. If an NFL coaching staff didn't see anything in him in 3.5 years, what qualifies all these average Joe fans to say he is worth a hill of beans? Don't you think the Clemens option has been explored before?
He already = old with that mobility. No doubt he's not the answer. I hope he's not even a fleeting thought. His record speaks to the d and running game in jax. He's just not a good idea.
Until he gets a chance to stand behind a decent line with good receivers we will never know what will happen. This is the first time he will actually be in a position to succeed as a starter hopefully.
What I think means absolutely nothing in reality, but I just don't see it. I hope...but hey....hope is the only fuel Jet fans have.
You mean to tell me, if I were to put any starting QB behind center against third-stringers, he wouldn't look good? And KC is gonna bounce back this season, mostly due to the fact that he actually has a line (D Brick - Beast, Faneca - Old and still lightyears ahead of Adrian Clarke, Mangold - Beast, Moore - Solid, Woody - Old and still lightyears ahead of Anthony Clement)
I ask again: If he is so good, why didn't he wow any coaches in the 3 training camps he participated in, which included 2 open QB competitions? All of those reps were with the 1st team offense.
